Taryn Surtees (Washington University):
Taryn Surtees of Washington University finished second to lead the Bears to a second-place team finish at the 2009 NCAA Division III Midwest Region Championships on Saturday. The junior completed the 6,000-meter course with a time of 21:07, just 15 seconds off the first-place pace. The Bears earned one of the region’s automatic bids to the NCAA Division III championships on Saturday in Cleveland, OH. Surtees earned NCAA All-Midwest Region honors for the third time in her career, and improved on her personal best finish of fifth place at the regional championship meet in 2008.
Other Outstanding Athletes
Elaine Simpson (Case) finished fourth with a time of 22:05.68 at the Great Lakes Regional… Lauren Norton (Rochester) had a time 22:42.6 to finish 12th at the Atlantic Regional this past weekend… Joan Kanarkiewicz (NYU) recorded a top-10 finish at the Atlantic Regional with a time of 22:30.9. The sophomore also earned All-Atlantic Regional honors for her performance… Grayce Selig (Brandeis) finished 23rd with a time of 22:33.8 at the New England Regional, Selig earned All-New England honors for her performance… Tess Gallegos (Emory) finished ninth out of 189 runners with a time of 24:04 at the South/Southeast Regional. Her finished helped her capture All-Region acclaim for the second straight year. |
