of the Week
April Whitley (Emory University):
Emory University swimmer April Whitley was part of three NCAA Division III ‘B’ cut performances during a split performance against Division I opponents UNC Wilmington and the University of Houston. Whitley finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a provisional time of 1:06.83 in the event. The junior then claimed third in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing with a qualifying time of 2:26.29. Whitley rounded out the meet with her third qualifying time and a third-place finish in the 200-medley relay (1:48.30), swimming the breaststroke leg.
Sara Spielman (University of Rochester):
University of Rochester freshman diver Sara Spielman posted a second-place finish on the one-meter board with a score of 204.75 and finished third on the three-meter board (209.00) at a three-team meet Friday. Rochester split the meet with a 243-144 victory over Case Western Reserve University and a 249-5-139.5 loss to New York University.
Other Outstanding Athletes
Angela Chui (Brandeis) took first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.93), 200-yard backstroke (2:17.16), and 200-yard individual medley (2:13.86)… Molly Evans (Carnegie Mellon) won three events, the 100-yard backstroke (59.28), the 200-yard backstroke (2:08.55), and the 200-yard individual medley (2:12.03)… Tatum Gormley (NYU) had four first-place finishes in the 400-yard individual medley (4:44.05), the 200-yard backstroke (2:32.06), 200-yard butterfly (2:14.17), and was part of the 400-yard medley relay that finished with a time of 4:08.99… Jessie Lodewyk (Washington) won the 500-yard freestyle (5:24.83) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:55.82) and was part of the 400-yard free relay (3:45.9) which took first in the event… Val Atwood (Rochester) won the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.47) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.76). She was also part of the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:53.08) and the 200-yard free relay (1:41.47).
