UAA Athlete of the Week
Zoë Unruh (Washington University):
Senior Zoë Unruh scored a game-high 16 points to lead top-ranked Washington University to a 71-36 victory over Augustana College in its season opener on Sunday. Unruh shot 7-for-14 from the field and sunk a pair of three-pointers en route to her 16 points. She also grabbed six rebounds, dished out a team-high five assists, blocked a shot, and made a steal.
Grace Carmen (New York University):
New York University senior forward Grace Carmen scored 14 of her team-high 16 points in the second half and grabbed a career-high tying eight rebounds to help the nationally ranked Violets stave off SUNY Oswego 71-65 in their season opener Sunday. Carmen hit four of her 10 field goal attempts, netted her lone three-point attempt, finished 7-for-9 at the charity stripe, and added two steals in 26 minutes. NYU is ranked 19th by D3Hoops.com and 22nd in the USA Today ESPN Division III Coaches Poll.
Other Outstanding Athletes
Kasey Gieschen (Brandeis) had a career-high 12 points and eight boards to help the Judges to a 66-32 win over Worcester Polytechnic Institute. She connected on 6-for-10 from the floor in 22 minutes of action.
