Michael Burnstein (Washington University):
Washington University sophomore Michael Burnstein finished in 16th place to lead the team to a third-place finish at the 2009 NCAA Division III Midwest Region Championships. He completed the 8,000-meter race with a time of 24:53. The unranked Bears tallied 118 team points to defeat six teams currently ranked in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Top-35 poll, including three teams ranked in the top-15. With their impressive finish Washington earned an at-large berth to the 2009 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships next Saturday. It is the first time the team has qualified for the national meet since 2006, and the fifth time in school history.
Other Outstanding Athletes
Brian Lang (Rochester) finished 18th at the Atlantic Regional with a time of 25:14.4… Charlie Meade (Emory) checked in a time of 26:38 to finish third and earn All-Region honors… Paul Norton (Brandeis) finished third with a time of 25:17.5 earning first team All-New England honors.
