UAA Athlete of the Week

Alex Hanson (Carnegie Mellon University):
Senior Alex Hanson of Carnegie Mellon University helped lead the Tartans to a 158-136 victory over Grove City College on Saturday. Hanson won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:56.58 and the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:12.57.

Kevin Yamada (Emory University):
Emory University senior Kevin Yamada was part of two first-place finishes and four top-four performances at the Emory Fall Invitational. Yamada opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:57.06. He notched his second first-place finish of the meet as the breaststroke leg of the Eagles’ 400-yard medley relay team, which recorded a mark of 3:30.51. He also finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.56 seconds), fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.37), and 11th in the 100-yard butterfly (53.69 seconds). Yamada scored 29.5 of the Eagles’ 376.5 points during the meet, helping the squad to a first-place finish out of seven teams.

Max Norris (New York University):
Max Norris of New York University won the one-meter and three-meter diving events on Saturday as the Violets defeated Wheaton College 207-95, and lost to host U.S. Coast Guard Academy 175-116. Norris posted an NCAA Division III qualifying score and first-place finish with 185.10 points in the three-meter dive. The junior also won the one-meter diving event, amassing a total of 259.10 points. Norris is undefeated in all of his events this season.

Other Outstanding Athletes

Sam Geiger (Case) won the 400-yard individual medley, the 500-yard freestyle, and the 1,000-yard freestyle… Adam Bossert (Rochester) won the 100-yard freestyle (49.47) and the 50-yard freestyle (22.42). He was also part of the 400-yard freestyle relay that took first at the meet… James Bedel (NYU) won the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.28) and the 100-yard butterfly (54.25). He was also part of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay…. Marc Eder (Brandeis) took first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.31) and in the 500-yard freestyle (5:05.35). Eder swam the backstroke leg in the 400-yard medley relay that finished in first.
