UAA Athlete of the Week
Carl Yaffe (NYU):
Junior forward Carl Yaffe led NYU to its first NCAA Division III tournament victory in 14 years in the opening round of national competition. Yaffe led NYU in a dominant second half, as the Violets turned a one-point halftime deficit into a 19-point win, shooting 67.9 percent (19 of 28) in the period to defeat visiting Misericordia University 84-65. He scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half, finishing the game 9 of 12 from the floor and adding six assists with just one turnover. Yaffee netted 11 points and pulled down five rebounds in an 80-65 second-round loss to second-ranked Amherst College on Saturday.
Dylan Richter (Washington University):
Senior guard Dylan Richter of Washington University averaged 16 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and two blocks per game in two NCAA tournament games last week. Richter scored 18 points and added five rebounds, three blocks, two steals, and two assists in a 71-59 first round win over Buena Vista University on Friday. He followed that up with 14 points, four rebounds, and three steals in a 72-68 loss to 23rd-ranked North Central College on Saturday. Richter drained eight 3-pointers over the weekend to move into sixth place in school history with 152 treys.
