UAA Athlete of the Week

Sadie Nennig (Emory University):
Emory University sophomore Sadie Nennig won national titles in the 200-yard backstroke and as part of the 200-yard medley relay, helping the Eagles win the 2012 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. Nennig claimed the team’s only individual title at the meet, winning the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:58.86. She swam the backstroke leg of the 200-yard medley relay team that claimed the championship with a 1:42.27 finish. She added All-America performances by finishing second in the 200-yard individual medley with a school-record time of 2:02.78, fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (55.47), and third as part of the Eagles’ 400-yard medley team (3:45.74). Nennig has collected three national titles and 10 All-America honors during her two-year career.

Claire Pavlak (Emory University):
Emory University senior Claire Pavlak was a part of three national champion relays at the 2012 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships to help the Eagles to their third consecutive team championship. Pavlak swam the anchor leg on all three of the winning relays, helping the 200-yard medley relay to a win with a time of 1:42.27, the 200-yard freestyle relay to a victory with a mark of 1:32.38, and the 400-yard freestyle relay to the national title with a school-record time of 3:22.02. She was also a part of the All-America 400-yard medley relay team, which finished third in 3:45.74. She added individual All-America performances with a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (23.10) and a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (50.74). Pavlak finished her Emory career with a program-record nine national championships and 20 All-America honors, the second-highest total in school history.

 

Other Outstanding Athletes

Sara Taege (Washington) finished seventh in both the 500-yard freestyle (4:57.07) and 400-yard individual medley (4:24.66)… Molly Rippe (NYU) finished 11th in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:16.08), finished 32nd in the 200-yard freestyle, and 39th in the 500-yard freestyle. Both swimmers competed at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.
