National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators

Members of this Association share many of the same visions of intercollegiate athletics, build programs on like principles, and embrace similar philosophies. At the same time, this Association recognizes and values the diversity generated by athletics programs which represent institutions of varying educational missions and resources.

The NADIIIAA List Server

The NADIIIAA List Server is an automated email distribution server that will forward email messages sent to its internet address to all NADIIIAA members who have indicated they want to subscribe to the list server. At the present time over 430 athletic administrators representing over 320 Division III institutions subscribe to the list server.

The list server is supported by the University Athletic Association office at the University of Rochester and maintained by Dick Rasmussen, Executive Secretary of the UAA. Two lists are maintained.

The first is the "NADIIIAA Discussion List" <NADIIIAATalk@uaa.rochester.edu>. This is a discussion list that can be used to send messages to NADIIIAA members, post job listings, post scheduling requests, or send other similar information. Only NADIIIAA members may post and receive messages to or from this list. Members may receive individual postings from this list as they are posted, or they may receive messages in Digest format. The digest format collects all messages received each day, compiles them into a single digest message, and forwards that message to digest subscribers each night.

The second list is "NADIIIAAMembers". This is a broadcast, announcement list that is used only by the NADIIIAA Executive Committee to post official announcements or messages to NADIIIAA members. This list will not accept postings from the general membership.

  • Sending Messages to the NADIIIAATalk List
To send a message to the list for distribution to all members subscribing to the list. Compose an email message and send it to
    NADIIIAATalk@uaa.rochester.edu
    .
The address is not case sensitive. Attachments may be included in messages. Please limit the size of attachments since some email systems will not accept large messages.
  • Subscribing
The NADIIIAATalk list does not accept automated subscriptions. To subscribe to the list server, complete a membership application form (available on this website) and forward it with the membership registration fee to the address on the form. Be sure to include your email address. Your email address will be added to the list server as soon as your membership registration is received.
  • Unsubscribing from NADIIIAATalk
If you would like to unsubscribe from the NADIIIAA Discussion List send a message to
    Requests@uaa.rochester.edu
In the Subject line or in the first line of the Body of the message, include the following: Unsubscribe NADIIIAATalk
(NOTE: Automated unsubscribing from the NADIIIAAMembers list is not allowed since that list is only used for official broadcast announcements from the Executive Committee and is often the only means used to communicate with NADIIIAA members.)
  • Subscribing to the Digest
If you prefer to receive your messages once a day in digest format send a message to
    Requests@uaa.rochester.edu
In the Subject line or in the first line of the Body of the message, include the following: Subscribe Digest NADIIIAATalk
  • To Change from Digest mode to Individual Messages
If you are receiving messages in Digest mode and decide you would rather receive messages individually as they are sent, send a message to
    Requests@uaa.rochester.edu
In the Subject line or in the first line of the Body of the message, include the following: Subscribe NADIIIAATalk
  • Problems or Questions
If you experience problems with the list server or have questions please contact
    Dick Rasmussen
    directly at < dick@uaa.rochester.edu>.
Do NOT send a message to the list server address for these purposes since that will forward your message to all recipients on the list and, in effect, create nuisance mail. Messages may also be sent to <NADIIIAA@uaa.rocheter.edu>.

How the list server works

The list server accepts email messages and attachments sent to “NADIIIAATalk@uaa.rochester.edu” and forwards them to all email addresses registered on the listserver.

Only NADIIIAA members who have indicated they want to participate in the list may send a email message to the list server or receive the messages forwarded by the list server.

Messages and attachments are automatically forwarded to all email addresses registered on the list server. Messages and their content are NOT moderated, filtered, or edited. They are forwarded as is. The NADIIIAA takes no responsibility for the content or accuracy of any messages processed by the list server.

The list server does scan for viruses, but cannot guarantee that an infected file or attachment will not be forwarded. Users should install and maintain a current version of anti-virus software on their own machines and take responsibility for any files they receive or download to their own machines. Since the list will only accept messages from registered members problems with spam from outside sources should be eliminated and the source of any virus should be readily identified.

The list server is designed to trap bounced email addresses and automated messages like "Out of Office" or "On Vacation" preventing them from being returned to the original sender of a message.

Responsibilities when using the List Server

  • INSTALL AND KEEP YOUR ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE UP TO DATE !!!

  • Do not “RESPOND TO ALL” unless you really mean to do so. Help keep down the volume of messages. In most cases, you should respond directly to the sender only.

  • Make the Subject Line of your message descriptive so members have an idea of what the content of the message may include.

  • Set your email application so your messages display your Full Name. This helps members identify the sender.

  • Set your email application so it attaches “Signature” information to your messages. Again, this helps identify the sender of the message. It also identifies the institution of the sender which may help members as they choose whether to respond to a message.

  • Let us know if your Email Address changes — help us avoid bounced messages!!!
