UAA Athlete of the Week
Jordan Beall , Monique Osigbeme , Alix Dyer , and Mary Crystal Spence (Emory University):
Emory University senior Jordan Beall, freshmen Monique Osigbeme and Alix Dyer, and junior Mary Crystal Spence finished second at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships in the 4x100-meter relay. The squad became the first in school history to break 47 seconds in the event, setting a school-record time of 46.91 seconds, and earning the first all-America honor for a relay team in the program’s history. In addition, Beall finished 14th in the long jump, Osigbeme claimed 12th in the 100-meter dash, and Spence finished 12th in the 200-meter dash and 14th in the 100-meter dash. The team’s eight points scored helped Emory to a 33rd -place finish at the NCAA championships.
Claire Ray (University of Chicago):
University of Chicago junior Claire Ray earned All-America honors in three events at the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship. Ray finished in fourth-place in the shot put 13.94 meters, sixth in the discus 45.35 meters, and seventh in the hammer throw 50.85 meters. She accounted for 10 of the Maroons' 11 points as Chicago finished 24th in the final standings.
Alli Alberts (Washington University):
Senior Alli Alberts of Washington University was a two-time All-America honoree at the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Alberts finished in second-place in the heptathlon with a score of 4,853, and was a member of the fourth-place 4x400-meter relay team (3:48.28). She also set a new school record in the javelin portion of the heptathlon with a throw of 41.21 meters. Alberts helped the Bears accrue 28 points and earn a school record fifth-place overall finish.
