Senior center Loren Wagner recorded her 16th double-double of the season with 23 points and 18 rebounds as the University of Rochester closed out the season with an 84-72 victory over Emory University. She connected on nine of 13 field goals and five of seven free throws. Wagner took over in the second half, totaling 19 points and 10 boards.
Other Outstanding Performances
Washington and NYU each received a bid to the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship and will travel the first weekend. The UAA champion Bears, ranked fifth, will travel to Oshkosh, WI and face the University of Northwestern-St. Paul in the regional’s first game on Friday. The winner of that matchup will meet the winner of the contest between 17th-ranked St Mary’s University and the 14th-ranked hosts, the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The Violets travel to Medford, MA and play the University of New England on Friday. The winner of that game will face the winner of the St. Joseph’s College-Tufts University game in the second round… Julie Mooney (CWRU) scored in double figures for the sixth consecutive game with 15 points and added career-bests of 12 rebounds and six steals as the Spartans completed a season sweep of Carnegie Mellon University, 71-68… Ally Zywicki (Rochester) tallied 17 points, 11 in the second half, and Tylar Guerrieri hit all seven of her field goals to finish with a career-high 17 points… Melissa Gilkey (Washington) netted 15 of her game-high 16 points in the second half to lead the Bears to a 63-57 win at the University of Chicago. She made 12 of 14 free throws and added 11 rebounds to record her ninth double-double of the season and 19th of her career.
