UAA Athlete of the Week

Kenny Zheng 
Carnegie Mellon University 
Pennington, NJ (Hopewell Valley Central)

Carnegie Mellon University freshman Kenny Zheng earned the clinching point as 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University battled back from 3-0 and 4-1 deficits to edge eighth-ranked Case Western Reserve University 5-4. Zheng won his fifth singles match when he won the tiebreaker 11-9 for a 6-3, 7-6 victory.

Scottsdale, AZ (Desert Mountain)

Case Western Reserve University sophomore Christopher Krimbill won all of his matches at first singles and first doubles against Oberlin College and UAA rival Carnegie Mellon University. The top-ranked player in the ITA Central Region, Krimbill defeated Abhishek Alla of the Tartans, 6-7, 6-2, 6-2. Alla is the top-ranked player in the ITA Atlantic South and the ITA Fall National Champion.


Other Outstanding Performances

Brian Granoff (Brandeis) won all six of his matches, three in singles and doubles, as the Judges defeated Babson College (6-3), Clark University (9-0), and Wheaton College (8-1)… Steven Wu (NYU) won all three of his matches at first singles against Stevens Institute of Technology, University of Rochester, and Hobart College… Tony Zhao (Rochester) teamed with Julian Danko for a thrilling 9-8 (3) win at first doubles and posted a straight-set victory at sixth singles to lead the Yellowjackets to an upset win over 23rd-ranked NYU… Ross Putterman (Washington) posted wins at first doubles (8-6) and first singles (4-6, 6-4, 10-3) in a 9-0 Bears’ victory over Earlham College.
