UAA Athlete of the Week

MMMichael Goodwin (Emory): The junior went unbeaten in singles and doubles play in leading the third-ranked Eagles into the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championships with second- and third-round triumphs over Salve Regina University (5-0) and host and 11th ranked Bowdoin College (5-3), respectively.  Goodwin teamed with David Caplan to post wins at first doubles against Salve Regina (8-4) and Bowdoin (8-4).  At first singles versus Bowdoin, he rallied for a key 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 decision in helping Emory rally from a 3-1 deficit.

MMMax Woods (Washington): The freshman posted a combined 4-0 record in singles and doubles play in helping the Bears advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Championships.  In a 5-1 second-round win over Grinnell College, Woods posted a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at fourth singles and teamed with classmate Isaac Stein for an 8-4 win at third doubles.  In the 6-0 victory over DePauw University in the third round, Woods and Stein tallied an 8-2 doubles win before registering a 6-1, 6-0 decision in singles.


Honor Roll

MMJames Muliawan (Carnegie Mellon): The sophomore went unbeaten at second singlrdand was 1-1 at first doubles with partner Nikola Ljuboja in helping the Tartans advance to the third round of the NCAA Division III Championship. in a 5-2 second round triumph over Kalamazoo College, Muliawan registered a 6-1, 6-4 win in singles and teamed with Ljuboja in fighting off match-point to rally for a 9-7 doubles triumph. Muliawan accounted for the lone win for the Tartans in a 5-1 loss to host Kenyon College in the third round, posting a 6-4, 6-1 singles win.
