UAA Athlete of the Week

OFFENSE
MM
John Hengel (Washington): The sophomore forward accounted for all of the scoring for the Bears during sectional play of the 2007 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship.  He scored the game’s lone goal in the 54th minute in a 1-0 third-round victory over Transylvania University, and netted the team’s only goal in the 85th minute during a 2-1 quarterfinal loss to top-ranked Trinity University.


DEFENSE
MMJohn Smelcer (Washington): The sophomore goalkeeper tallied a shutout and made several big saves in helping the Bears reach the quarterfinal round during sectional play of the 2007 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship.  Smelcer tallied his tenth shutout of the season in a 1-0 third-round triumph over Transylvania University before making six saves in a 2-1 quarterfinal loss to top-ranked Trinity University (TX), the top-scoring team in NCAA Division III.
