UAA Athlete of the Week

MMTroy Ruths (Washington): The senior forward averaged 31.5 points and seven rebounds per game, shooting 71.4 percent (20 of 28) from the field and 88.5 percent (23 of 26) from the free-throw line in garnering Most Outstanding Player honors and leading the Bears to the 2008 NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship, the first men’s national title in school history.  Ruths tallied 30 points and six rebounds in an 89-74 semifinal win over top-ranked Hope College on Friday, then poured in a game-high 33 points and eight rebounds in a 90-86 victory over second-ranked and defending champion Amherst College in the championship game.  Ruths finished the season with a UAA-best 20.5 points per game, breaking the school record with 634 points scored.
