Week
WOMEN
MM• Sophia Ciaravino and Alyxandra Mattison (NYU): Freshman Sophia Ciaravino and sophomore Alyxandra Mattison each finished in the top 20 of their respective weapons at the 2008 NCAA Fencing Championships in Columbus, OH, helping the Violets, the top Division III placing team, to a 15th-place finish in the 27-team field. Ciaravino won nine bouts to finish 17th in the foil, while Mattison won seven bouts and finished 19th in the sabre.
MEN
MM• Will Friedman (Brandeis): The junior earned All-America honors with a seventh-place finish in the foil at the 2008 NCAA Fencing Championships in Columbus, OH. Friedman posted a 14-9 record in the weapon, including wins over two opponents from Harvard University, the University of Notre Dame, Stanford University, and Yale University and one each against opponents from Brown University, the University of California-San Diego, Ohio State University, Penn State University, and Princeton University to finish tops among New England foil competitors.
MM• Sam Roukas (NYU): The sophomore garnered All-America accolades with a seventh-place finish in the sabre at the 2008 NCAA Fencing Championships in Columbus, OH, helping the Violets, the top Division III placing team, to a 15th-place finish in the 27-team field. Roukas finished 13-10 in the weapon, which included a string of seven consecutive victories. His finish was a 15-place improvement from a year ago.
