SIX UAA VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS NAMED Janet Bunning of Emory and Nikki Morrison of Washington garner first team accolades (Release courtesy of AVCA) MMThe 2007 class has many new faces: 26 of the 36 have not previously been on an AVCA All-America team. This year’s group contains three, three-time selections: Capital University senior middle blocker Jessie Hampson, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh senior middle blocker Leah Rosenbaum and Juniata College junior outside hitter Amber Thomas. Emory University’s Janet Bunning joins Rosenbaum and Thomas as repeat first-team honorees. [click to view 2007 AVCA All-America team] *m*m* UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Alysse Meyer (Emory): The sophomore outside hitter tallied a team-high 51 kills with a .430 hitting percentage (51 kills, eight errors on 100 attacks) and added seven service aces in helping the fifth-ranked Eagles to three victories and the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship South Region title. After notching 11 kills in a three-game sweep of Piedmont College, Meyer chalked up a team-high 20 kills and a .576 hitting percentage in a three-game sweep of host Austin College, and added another 20 kills, a .311 hitting percentage, and seven digs in a four-game triumph over third-ranked Trinity University (TX) in the title game.
MM• Erin Albers (Washington): The sophomore middle hitter compiled 39 kills, a .391 hitting percentage, and 17 total blocks to cap a standout week for the Bears at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championship, leading her team to a berth in the NCAA Division III Championship with victories over Hanover College, the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and host Carthage College. Albers’ best performance came in a four-game triumph over Carthage in the title game, where she compiled a career-high 16 kills, a .502 hitting percentage, and eight blocks. MM• Jess Brackin (Carnegie Mellon): The sophomore was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2007 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III South Championships, tallying 33 kills, a .468 hitting percentage, and 23 blocks (11 solo) in leading the Tartans to the title with three wins. Bracken registered 10 kills, a .668 hitting percentage, and a career-high 13 blocks (eight solo) in a three-game sweep of Penn State University-Altoona in the opening round, and put away 14 kills (a .520 hitting percentage) and five blocks (two solo) in a five-game win over top-seeded Johns Hopkins University in the finals. MM• Lorraine Wingenbach (Brandeis): The junior outside hitter was named the Most Valuable Player of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Championship, tallying 51 kills (5.67 per game), 23 digs, and seven service aces in leading the Judges to their second straight title. Wingenbach totaled 13 kills, two aces, and nine digs in a three game sweep of Plymouth State University in the quarterfinals and 19 kills each in semifinal and championship matches against Keene State College and and Colby-Sawyer College. UAA Athlete of the Week MMNo selections were made this week as the Association coaches are voting to select the 2007 All-UAA team, the Most Valuable Player, and Rookie of the Year. UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Alysse Meyer (Emory): The sophomore outside hitter tallied a team-high 63 kills (4.50 per game) for a .381 hitting percentage to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team during the Emory University National Invitational, helping the Eagles to wins in three of four matches. Meyer, who also added 16 digs and five service aces on the weekend, compiled a career-high 21 kills and a .429 hitting percentage in a five-game loss to Birmingham Southern College, notched a team-high 18 kills and six digs in a four-game triumph over 10th-ranked Ohio Northern University, and tallied 19 kills in a three-game sweep of Baldwin-Wallace College. MM• Maggie Ramm (Emory): The senior libero tallied 109 digs (6.87 per game) in helping the Eagles to a 3-1 record at the Emory University National Invitational. Ramm led the team in digs in all four matches, collecting 27 digs in a five-game loss to Birmingham Southern College, tallying 29 digs each in victories over 10th-ranked Ohio Northern University and Baldwin-Wallace College, and finished with 18 digs in a three-game sweep of Randolph-Macon College. Ramm has 439 digs through 32 matches this season, which ranks second on the school’s single-season list.
MM• Chisom Amaechi (Carnegie Mellon): The junior middle hitter tallied 10 kills on 13 attempts and only one error in a three-game win over the University of Dallas at the Wittenberg University Fall Classic. MM• Piera Carfagno (Brandeis): The sophomore middle blocker was named the Most Valuable Player of the Brandeis University Judges Classic, tallying 42 kills (4.2 per game) and a .467 hitting percentage in helping the host team to a 3-0 record en route to the team title. Carfagno also totaled eight blocks (three solo) and five service aces. Carfagno compiled 14 kills in each of the three matches, hitting.611 with three aces and three blocks against Plymouth State University. MM• Erin Noonan (NYU): The freshman recorded double-digit kills in all three matches and earned All-Tournament Team honors while leading the Violets to a 2-1 record and a fifth-place finish at the 2007 New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) Volleyball Championship. Noonan, who was also named the NYSWCAA Rookie of the Year, compiled 14 kills and a .345 hitting percentage in a win over St. Lawrence University, tallied 20 kills in a five-game quarterfinal loss to eventual champion State University of New York at Brockport, and totaled 10 kills in ta three-game sweep of Clarkson University. Over the course of the weekend, Noonan recorded 12 digs, three blocks, and two service aces. MM• Julie Schaefer (Case): The junior setter tallied 44 assists and 29 digs for the Spartans in a three-match week, which included "double-double" performances against Hiram College and Oberlin College. MM• Haleigh Spencer (Washington): The senior outside hitter compiled 43 kills, a .282 hitting percentage, 50 digs, and six total blocks to earn All-Tournament Team honors in leading the Bears to a perfect 4-0 record at the Washington University Bears Classic. Spencer tallied 11 kills and 10 digs in a win over Adrian College, and totaled 14 kills and 16 digs in a three-game win over Webster University. UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Lorraine Wingenbach (Brandeis): The junior outside hitter averaged 5.06 kills and 3.06 digs per game and served for ten aces en route to All-Tournament Team honors at the Volleyball Hall of Fame Induction Tournament, leading the Judges to a 2-2 record and a fourth-place finish in the 16-team field. Wingenbach totaled 81 kills and a .242 hitting percentage for the weekend, leading the team in kills in each match. Her top effort came in a five-game loss to Williams College, where she tallied a career-high 31 kills with a .290 hitting percentage. She also added 16 digs, four blocks and three service aces.
MM• Dani Huffman (Emory): The junior totaled a team-high 12 kills while finishing with a .304 hitting percentage in helping the Eagles to a three-game sweep of NAIA opponent Lee University. Huffman also tallied three blocks as Emory held Lee to a .022 hitting percentage. MM• Nikki Morrison (Washington): The junior outside hitter compiled a team-high 15 kills and a .448 hitting percentage in leading the Bears to a three-game triumph over the University of Missouri-St. Louis. MM• S.K. Piper (Case): The sophomore middle blocker nailed 14 kills with a .583 hitting percentage in a 3-0 Case victory over Lake Erie College. Piper also talied nine digs and three blocks (two solo). UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Erin Albers (Washington): The sophomore middle hitter compiled 45 kills for a .467 hitting percentage and tallied 21 blocks in leading the Bears to a 4-0 weekend in the second round of UAA round robin play in Cleveland, OH, garnering the top seed for next month’s UAA Volleyball Championship Tournament. Albers’ best match of the weekend came in a three-game win over the University of Rochester, tallying 14 kills on 16 attempts for an .812 hitting percentage and adding seven blocks (three solo). In a five-game triumph over Emory University, she totaled 13 kills for a .611 hitting percentage. MM• Koryn Kendall (Chicago): The senior middle hitter averaged 3.73 kills per game and registered a .564 hitting percentage on 56 kills in 94 attempts with only three errors in four matches during the second round of UAA round robin play in Cleveland, OH. Kendall recorded double-digit kills with at least a .515 hitting percentage in all four matches, including a high of 18 kills in a five-game loss to New York University, and 17 kills and a .640 hitting percentage in a three-game win over the University of Rochester. She also set the Chicago career record for total blocks (365) and became the fourth player in school history to reach 1,000 career kills.
MM• Maggie Baird (Emory): The junior finished with a .430 hitting percentage (36 kills, eight errors, 65 attempts) and totalled nine blocks in helping the Eagles to a 3-1 record during the final weekend of UAA round robin play, securing the number two seed for next month's UAA Championship Tournament. In a five-game loss to Washington University, Baird totaled a season-high 16 kills and made four blocks. MM• Jessica Brackin (Carnegie Mellon): The sophomore middle hitter compiled 38 kills for a .349 hitting percentage and added 24 blocks and five service aces as the Tartans posted a 2-2 record during the second round of UAA round robin play in Cleveland, OH. Brackin tallied 13 kills and a .550 hitting percentage in a three-game win over the University of Rochester, and registered 11 kills and a career-high 10 blocks (five solo) in a five-game setback to Brandeis University. MM• S.K. Piper (Case): The sophomore middle blocker tallied 50 kills and 43 digs during the second round of UAA round robin play hosted by Case. Piper registered "double-double" performances in two matches as the Spartans finished with a 2-2 record for the weekend. MM• Lorraine Wingenbach (Brandeis): The junior outside hitter averaged 4.25 kills and 3.55 digs per game while serving a team-leading 12 aces in leading the Judges to a 3-2 week. After opening the week with 21 kills and 17 digs in a four-game loss to Tufts University, Wingenbach continued her tear with "double-double" efforts in all four matches during the second-round of UAA round robin play in Cleveland, OH, where Brandeis posted a 3-1 mark over the weekend to earn the third seed in next month's UAA Championship Tournament, its highest seed ever under the current format. UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Abby Blasco (Brandeis): The Freshman setter averaged 11.58 assists per game and tallied 16 service aces in leading the Judges to a 4-0 record and the championship of the Midcoast Classic hosted by Bowdoin College and Bates College. Blasco also tallied 35 digs and seven blocks (two solo) as Brandeis posted three-game sweeps over Emmanuel College, Bates College, Keene State College, and the University of New England. She nearly registered her first career “triple-double” against New England with 35 assists, 11 digs and a career-high eight service aces, and posted personal highs of 38 assists and 12 digs in the win over Keene. MM• Maggie Ramm (Emory): The senior lplayed a key role on defense in helping the Eagles secure wins in three of four matches last weekend at the Illinois Wesleyan University Classic. Ramm registered 52 digs in 12 games played, which included a 19 dig-performance in a 3-0 win against Hope College.
MM• Alicia Beckett (Case): The freshman setter compiled 78 assists and 44 digs in leading the Spartans to a 2-1 week. Beckett posted back-to-back "double-double" performances dueing a triangular match weekend at Allegheny College, totaling 39 assists and 19 digs in a four-match loss to Ohio Wesleyan University, and tallying 29 assists and 20 digs in a five-game triumph over Allegheny. MM• Koryn Kendall (Chicago): The senior middle hitter collected 23 kills and 11 blocks as the Maroons split two matches during a triangular match at Wisconsin Lutheran College. Kendall totaled 15 kills for a .438 hitting percentage (15 kill with an error in 32 attempts) in a 30-18, 27-30, 30-24, 30-20 loss to Concordia University (WI), then recorded nine blocks (six solo) to go with eight kills in a three-game sweep (30-16, 30-26, 30-16) of host Wisconsin Lutheran. MM• Nicole Lubell (NYU): The senior outside hitter tallied 49 kills, a .236 hitting percentage,16 digs, and three blocks en route to all-tournament team honors at the New York University Violet Classic, helping the host team to a 2-2 record and a third-place finish. Lubell recorded double-digit kills in three matches, totaling a career-high 21 kills in a five game loss to Rochester Institute of Technology, compiling 12 kills with a .333 hitting percentage in a three-game sweep of Gettysburg College, and tallying 11 kills with a .375 hitting percentage in a three-game sweep of the State University of New York at Potsdam. MM• Alysse Meyer (Emory): The sophomore totaled 49 kills (4.08 per game) for a .296 hitting percentage, and added 17 digs and 10 service aces in helping the Eagles to a 3-1 record and a runner-up finish at the Illinois Wesleyan University Classic. Meyer turned in a pair of big efforts during the second day of competition, tallying a team-high 15 kills along with five aces in a three-game sweep of Millikin University before registering a 16 kills, eight digs, four aces, and four blocks in a three-game win over Hope College. MM• Jessica Rasmussen (Rochester): The junior outside hitter collected 42 kills, 78 digs (5.20 per game), six blocks, and five service aces in helping the Yellowjackets to a 3-2 week, which includes a third-place finish at the State University of New York at Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational. After opening the week with 13 kills and 15 digs in a three-game sweep of Elmira College, Rasmussen totaled 63 digs, 29 kills, and four aces in four matches to earn all-tournament team accolades at Fredonia. MM• Haleigh Spencer (Washington): The senior outside hitter garnered all-tournament team honors at the Augustana College (IL) Invitational, totaling 38 kills and 50 digs, and registering a .310 hitting percentage in helping the Bears to the championship. Spencer put together solid performances on the opening day of tournament play, compiling 13 kills, 18 digs, and three aces in a three-game triumph over Grinnell College, then tallying 10 kills and a .556 hitting percentage in a three-game triumph over Knox College. MM• Abbie Toney (Carnegie Mellon): The senior middle hitter led the Tartans to a 3-0 record in their own Carnegie Mellon University Invitational, registered a .457 hitting percentage on 24 kills. Toney collected a team-high 14 kills and hit. 500 in a four-game win over Franklin & Marshall College, and registered a .636 hitting percentage on eight kills in a three-game sweep of Lake Erie College. UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Haleigh Spencer (Washington): The senior outside hitter tallied 40 kills, a .349 hitting percentage, and 37 digs during the opening weekend of UAA round robin play at New York University, helping the Bears to a 3-0 record. Spencer registered “double-double” performances in victories over Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Chicago, compiling 24 digs and a career-best 20 kills in a five-game triumph over Carnegie Mellon, and tallying 16 kills and 11 digs in a three-game sweep of Chicago.
MM• Dani Huffman (Emory): The junior compiled 28 kills and registered a .581 hitting percentage in leading the fourth ranked Eagles to a 3-0 record on the opening weekend of UAA round robin play at New York University. She totaled 12 kills in a three-game sweep of the University of Rochester and tallied 12 kills for a blazing .800 hitting percentage (12 kills, 0 errors in 15 attacks) along with 10 blocks in a four-game win over host NYU. MM• Beth Karpinski (Case): The freshman posted a pair of "double-double" performances during UAA round robin play at New York University. Karpinski tallied 12 kills and 24 digs in a five-game victory over the University of Chicago and recorded 14 kills and 26 digs in a five-game loss to Carnegie Mellon University. MM• Erin Noonan (NYU): The freshman led the team in kills (46) and blocks (10), while hitting a team-best .281 as the Violets posted a 2-1 mark in hosting the opening weekend of round robin play. Noonan tallied a career-high 22 kills in registering a .400 hitting percentage during a four-game triumph over the University of Rochester, then equaled the performance with 22 kills (16 in the final three games) and a .436 hitting percentage as the Violets rallied from two games down to defeat Brandeis University in five games. She also had four service aces and seven digs as the Violets also fell in four games to fourth ranked Emory University. UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Samantha Carter (Carnegie Mellon): The sophomore setter tallied 176 assists (11.73 per game), 45 digs, 13 blocks, and nine service aces in leading the Tartans to a 3-1 mark in their annual Crossover Tournament. Carter tallied 50 assists, 18 digs, and three aces in a 3-1 win over Otterbein College, compiled 53 assists and 17 digs in five-game triumph over John Carroll University, and totaled 43 assists and a career-best eight blocks in a three-game sweep of Muskingum College. MM• Lorraine Wingenbach (Brandeis): The junior outside hitter tallied 67 kills and a .280 hitting percentage, while averaging 3.42 digs, 0.75 aces, and 0.58 blocks in helping the Judges to second place at the Amherst College Classic, defeating Middlebury College, Westfield State College, and Johnson & Wales University, while losing to host Amherst. Wingenbach’s top performance came in a three-game win over Middlebury, where she compiled 20 kills, a .304 hitting percentage, and 17 digs.
MM• Rachel Bender (Rochester): The freshman setter collected 64 assists, 31 digs, eight kills, two blocks, and two service aces in wins over Medaille College (3-0) and Keuka College (3-1). Bender tallied six kills, 38 assists and 17 digs against Keuka and two kills, 26 assists and 14 digs against Medaille. MM• Janet Bunning (Emory): The senior played in three of the team’s four matches at the Emory University Tournament, racking up a total of 38 kills, a hitting percentage of .455 and 30 digs in leading the Eagles to the championship. Bunning registered 21 kills, and hit .741 in a three-game win over Washington & Lee University and notched 10 kills and 12 digs in a three-game sweep of Heidelberg College in the championship match. MM• Erin Noonan (NYU): The freshman totaled 55 kills, 18 blocks, 10 digs, and six service aces and 10 digs in leading the Violets to a 2-3 week, which included All-Tournament Team honors at the Millikin University/Linda Slagell Classic. After opening the week with a career-best 20 kills and five blocks in a five-game triumph over Vassar College, Noonan tallied 35 kills and 13 blocks in tournament play, compiling 17 kills, a team-best .389 hitting percentage, and a career-high six blocks in a four-game win over the College of St. Scholastica. MM• S.K. Piper (Case): The sophomore middle blocker tallied 34 kills and 30 digs for the Spartans during a triangular match at Allegheny College. UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Julie Schaefer (Case): The junior setter tallied 145 assists and 63 digs in a 4-1 week for the Spartans, which included a third-place finish in their own Case Western Reserve University Tournament over the weekend. Schaefer opened the week with her second “triple-double” of the season with 10 kills, 44 assists, and 19 digs in a five-game win over Baldwin-Wallace College, the first victory over the Yellow Jackets in over five years. In tournament play, She compiled 122 assists, 44 digs, and four aces in four matches. MM• Lorraine Wingenbach (Brandeis): The junior outside hitter tallied 30 kills for a .220 hitting percentage and added 19 digs and five service aces in leading the Judges to two weekend wins. After tallying eight kills, six digs, and five aces in a three-game sweep of Bridgewater State College, Wingenbach posted a “double-double” of 22 kills and 13 digs in a five-game triumph over Williams College.
MM• Ellen Bruegge (Washington): The senior middle hitter was named to the all-tournament team of the Fourth Annual Washington University/Teri Clemens Invitational after compiling 33 kills and 8.5 blocks at the two-day event. The fourth-ranked Bears went 0-3, losing to second-ranked and defending NCAA Division III champion Juniata College in five games, 14th-ranked University of La Verne (five games), and third-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (four games). MM• Koryn Kendall (Chicago): The senior middle hitter earned All-Tournament Team honors at the University of Chicago Gargoyle Classic, averaging 3.87 kills and 0.80 blocks to go along with a .379 hitting percentage. She led the team in kills in all four contests, tallying 11 in a three-game loss to Augsburg College, 17 in a four-game setback against Trinity Christian College, nine in a 3-0 loss to tournament champion Mount Union College, and 21 in a five-game victory over Defiance College. MM• Nicole Lubell (NYU): The senior recorded double-digit kills in four matches while leading the Violets to a 2-2 record and a seventh-place finish at the Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational. Over the course of the weekend, Lubell compiled 59 kills with a team-best .240 hitting percentage. She recorded a career-high 18 kills in a 3-0 victory over St. John Fisher College, 13 kills in a five-game loss to SUNY Geneseo and 16 kills in a 3-2 loss to SUNY Cortland. Lubell also notched 12 kills in a 3-1 win over SUNY Fredonia. MM• Violette Ruggiero (Brandeis): The junior libero helped the Judges to a pair of home wins in her first action of the season, averaging four digs and 1.12 service aces per game as the Judges swept Bridgewater State College and defeated Williams College in five games. Ruggiero tallied a team leading 12 digs to go with four service aces in the win over Bridgewater State and compiled a career-high 20 digs with five aces in the win over Williams. Brandeis has won six matches in a row overall and 16 straight at home dating back to last season. MM• Caroline Size (Carnegie Mellon): The freshman posted a .500 hitting percentage with a match-high 13 kills and added two blocks in leading the Tartans to a 30-26, 30-22, 30-24 victory over visiting Point Park University. UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Piera Carfagno (Brandeis): The sophomore middle blocker was named the Most Valuable Player of the Brandeis University Invitational, helping the Judges to four victories en route to the championship. In four tournament matches, Carfagno compiled 48 kills for a .521 hitting percentage (48 kills, eight errors in 73 attacks), and added eight service aces and seven blocks. She compiled 14 kills (.458 hitting pct.), three aces, and three blocks in a four-game win over Rhode Island College and tallied 11 kills (.571 pct.), three aces, and two blocks in a three-game sweep of Smith College. MM• Samantha Carter (Carnegie Mellon): The sophomore setter Samantha Carter dished out 250 assists in a five-match week for the Tartans, which included a third-place showing at the College of Wooster Kilt Classic over the weekend. After opening the week with a 50-assist effort in a five-game loss to St. Vincent College, Carter compiled 200 digs in leading the Tartans to a 2-2 record at Wooster, tallying a career-high 67 assists, to go with nine kills, a .571 hitting percentage, and 10 digs in a five game win over Westminster College (PA).
MM• Alli Alberts (Washington): The junior outside hitter and defensive specialist compiled 45 kills, 67 digs and totaled 5.5 blocks in helping the Bears post a 3-1 record at the Washington University National Invitational, earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team. MM• Rachel Bender (Rochester): The freshman setter compiled 124 assists, 61 digs, and 18 kills en route to being named the Most Valuable Player of the SUNY Potsdam/Victory Promotions Invitational, helping the Yellowjackets to the team title. Bender tallied 39 assists and 10 digs in the victory over host Potsdam in the title match of the Gold Bracket. MM• Erin Noonan (NYU): The freshman middle blocker recorded double-digit kills in three consecutive matches and earned All-Tournament Team honors in leading the Violets to a 2-2 record at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational. In four matches, Noonan tallied 46 kills and 10 blocks. She recorded a team-high 15 kills and four blocks in a four-game victory over the State University of New York at Oneonta, tallied 14 kills while hitting a team-best .419 in a four-game win over St. John Fisher College, and led the team with 12 kills in a four-game loss to Rochester Institute of Technology. MM• S.K. Piper (Case): The sophomore middle hitter tallied 60 kills for the Spartans in a four game tournament at Baldwin Wallace College/Marcia French Invitational, garnering All Tournament Team honors. MM• Maggie Ramm (Emory): The senior spearheaded a strong defensive effort by the Eagles at the Emory University Invitational, collecting 75 digs and 10 service aces in 15 games in helping the squad to a 3-1 record and a second-place finish. Ramm's top performance was a 26-dig effort in a four-game win over Augustana College (IL). MM• Courtney Rose (Emory): The senior chalked up a team-leading 60 kills, registered a solid .349 hitting percentage, and chipped in 60 digs in garnering All-Tournament Team accolades, helping the Eagles to a 3-1 record and second place in the Emory University Invitational. Rose paced the squad in kills in win over the University of Texas-Dallas (13 kills), Rhodes College, (15), and Birmingham Southern College (17). She collected a career-high tying 26 digs in the match against Birmingham Southern. UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Koryn Kendall (Chicago): The senior middle hitter earned All-Tournament Team honors as the Maroons split four matches en route to a third-place finish at the St. Norbert College Invitational. Kendall led the team in kills in three of the four matches, compiling 21 kills in a 3-0 win over Finlandia University, 25 in a four-game decision over Marian College, and 19 in a five-game setback against Aurora University. MM• Maggie Ramm (Emory): The senior libero was named the Most Valuable Player of the Emory University Classic after helping the Eagles to a perfect 4-0 record and wins in 12 of 13 games. Ramm totaled a team-high 54 digs, 13 assists, and five service aces, while helping the Eagles hold all four opponents to a combined .113 attack percentage. Ramm accounted for a team-high 11 digs and three aces in a three-game sweep of Christopher Newport University, tallied 15 digs and six assists in a 3-1 triumph against 11th-ranked University of St. Thomas, and collected a team-best 22 digs in a three-game triumph over the University of Puget Sound.
MM• Samantha Carter (Carnegie Mellon): The sophomore setter compiled 128 assists, 20 digs, and seven service aces as the Tartans posted a 1-3 record at the Ohio Northern University Invitational. Carter totaled 41 assists in a four-game loss to the College of Mount St. Joseph, a match that saw both teams reach 30 or more points in three of the four games. MM• Nikki Morrison (Washington): The junior outside hitter led the Bears to a 4-0 record at the Illinois College Invitational over the weekend, sweeping Bethany Lutheran College, Cornell College, Illinois College, and Millikin University. Morrison tallied 63 kills (5.25 per game) with a .452 hitting percentage and nine total blocks (two solo). MM• Julie Schaefer (Case): The junior setter totaled 34 kills, 111 assists and 69 digs in a four game weekend at the Mount Union College Purple Raider Invitational, including a "triple-double" of 10 kills (.391 attack percentage), 36 assists, and 22 digs in a three-game triumph over Geneva College (PA). MM• Adrienne Spohr (NYU): The freshman made an outstanding collegiate debut with two "double-double" performances and All-Tournament Team honors in leading the Violets to a 3-1 record and a runner-up finish in their annual NYU Labor Day Invitational. Spohr compiled 39 kills, 38 digs, five service aces, and two blocks. She tallied 14 kills and 11 digs in her first match, a 3-0 win over the College of Mount St. Vincent, then posted 11 kills and 13 digs in a 3-0 victory over the State University of New York at Geneseo. |
