CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT DEFENDING CHAMP EMORY FAVORED, BUT OTHER TEAMS ON THE HUNT MJohns Hopkins University's milestone of being the only team to claim back-to-back University Athletic Association baseball championships remains safe for another year. Washington University made sure of that. MAfter losing its opening game of the tournament, Washington ran off five straight wins to claim their first outright UAA baseball championship, and third title overall. The Bears made the most of their 204 at-bats, registering a tournament-high .338 batting average on 69 hits, 19 coming for extra bases including a tournament-record six home runs. They also helped their cause with aggressive base running, going 11-for-12 in stolen bases. MBrandeis University, defending
champion Emory University, and the University of Rochester all
finished in a three-way tie for second-place with identical 3-3
records, while Case Western Reserve University rounded out the
field with a 1-5 mark, picking up its lone win on the final day
of play. |
