WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY PITCHES ITS
WAY TO SECOND ASSOCIATION TITLE!
Bears pitching staff yields two runs en route to championship record 0.13 ERA

M
Statistically, Washington University was not the best hitting team during the five-day 2004 University Athletic Association Softball Championship Tournament in Altamont Springs, FL. But that isn't much of a problem when you possess a pitching staff that can stop the other team's bats cold in their tracks.

MIn one of the most dominant pitching performance in the championship's 10-year history, The Bears five-player pitching staff combined to post a championship record 0.13 earned-run average and joined an even stronger infield in posting shutouts in six of eight games while giving up only one earned run to claim their second Association championship.

MOf the six shutouts, two were 1-0 triumphs over nationally-ranked and three-time defending champion Emory University, which finished second in tournament play with a 6-2 mark. Case Western Reserve University and the University of Rochester finished tied for third place with 3-5 records, while Brandeis University failed to pick up a win in its eight-game set.
