University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week are selected from nominees submitted by coaches and sports information directors from across the Division III Association. UAA Athletes of the Week are selected in each sport in which the UAA sponsors competition. They are selected on the basis of their individual performances and contributions to team efforts during the past week in both Association and non-Association competition.
Women’s Basketball
Erica Kaplan — Emory University — Commack, NY (Commack)
Emory University junior Erica Kaplan scored a season-high 20 points, hitting a career-high tying six of seven 3-point field goals, and pulled down eight rebounds in leading the Eagles to a 79-67 triumph over the University of the South. Kaplan shot 66.7 percent (six of nine) from the floor for the game, making five 3-pointers in the opening half, and currently ranks sixth on the Emory all-time list with 81 three-point field goals.
Men’s Basketball
Spiros Ferderigos — Emory University — Oldsmar, FL (Berkeley Prep)
Senior guard Spiros Ferderigos of Emory University scored a season-high 32 points, adding 12 rebounds and nine assists to pace the Eagles to their fifth straight win of the season with a 106-89 victory over Oglethorpe University. Ferderigos sank eight of 14 shots from the floor, including three of four from 3-point range, and made 13 of 16 free throws en route to his fourth career contest of 30 or more points. He also registered three blocked shots and a pair of steals.
Troy Ruths — Washington University — Sugar Land, TX (Stephen F. Austin)
Washington University senior Troy Ruths averaged 25 points and 10 rebounds in the Bears’ two victories for the week. Ruths tallied 15 points and eight rebounds in a 73-57 win at Fontbonne University, then followed with his first “double-double” of the season with a career-high 35 points and 12 rebounds in a 68-63 win over Coe College. The scoring effort pushed him over 1,300 points for his career, making him the ninth player in school history to achieve the feat.

Jaime Capra — Brandeis University — Old Bridge, NJ (Old Bridge)
Senior guard Jaime Capra of Brandeis University averaged 18.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and five assists in helping the Judges to a 3-0 week. After compiling seven points, seven rebounds, and five assists in a 53-47 win at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Capra tallied 24 points (10 of 18 field goals with two 3-pointers), eight rebounds, and four assists in a 59-46 victory over Wheaton College (MA). Two days later, she contributed a season-high 25 points and a career-best six assists while pulling down five rebounds in a 75-56 victory over Williams College. For the week, she shot 46 percent (19 of 41) from the floor, 42 percent (five of 12) from three-point range, and 87 percent (13 of 15) from the line.
Jessica McEntee — New York University — Flushing, NY (Archbishop Molloy)
New York University junior forward Jessica McEntee averaged 24.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, three assists, and 2.5 steals while shooting 61.5 percent (16-for-26) from the field and going 16-for-16 from the free-throw line in a 2-0 week for the Violets. After tallying 18 points and 12 rebounds in a 67-48 victory at the State University of New York at Oswego, McEntee registered 31 points and 11 rebounds in an 86-70 triumph over Drew University. She hit 13 of 13 free throws in the contest, extending her NYU-record shooting streak to 27 consecutive free throws made.

Greg Gonzalez — Carnegie Mellon University — Southlake, Texas (Carroll)
Senior Greg Gonzalez of Carnegie Mellon University scored a game- and career-high 21 points in leading the Tartans to a 70-57 win over host Catholic University of America. The fifth-year senior shot 58.3 percent from the floor (7-for-12) and made seven of eight free throws. He also grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots, one shy of 100 for his career.
Brad Sutton — Case Western Reserve University — Findlay, OH (Findlay)
Case Western Reserve University junior forward Brad Sutton scored 22 points, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out two assists, and blocked two shots in the Spartans’ 94-91 victory over host Kenyon College. Sutton, who scored the final five points for Case down the stretch to secure the win, connected on seven of 13 shots from-the-field, including five of eight from the three-point line. Through nine games, he is shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc, hitting 22 of 44 three pointers.
Men’s Swimming and Diving
James Liu — Brandeis University — Longmeadow, MA (Longmeadow)
Brandeis University sophomore James Liu won three individual events for the Judges in a 165-124 loss to Tufts University. Liu won the 50-yard (:24.95) and 200-yard (2:01.24) butterfly, and captured the 100-yard freestyle (:48.81). Liu also swam the leadoff leg on the third-place 400-yard medley relay, swimming a :56.90 backstroke split.
Men’s Indoor Track and Field
Mekonen Gendebo — Brandeis University — Cambridge, MA (Cambridge Rindge & Latin)
Freshman Mekonen Gendebo of Brandeis University turned in his second top-10 performance of the season at the Harvard University Open on Saturday, placing third in a field of 28 competitors in the 5,000-meter run. His time of 15:28.25 was tops among NCAA Division III runners entered.
Wrestling
James Layman — New York University — Waldwick, NJ (Bergen Catholic)
New York University senior James Layman won a pair of matches in overtime at 285 pounds as the Violets posted weekend victories over Hunter College (33-9) and Bridgewater State College (28-3). Against Hunter, Layman needed six overtime periods to come away with a 4-3 decision. The following day against Bridgewater State, he went three extra periods to score a 5-3 decision, improving to 12-8 on the season and 3-1 in dual matches.

Jessica McEntee — New York University — Flushing, NY (Archbishop Molloy)
New York University junior forward Jessica McEntee tallied a career-high 38 points, hitting a single-game school record 20 of 21 free throws, and grabbing 19 rebounds in an 87-82 victory over the State University of New York at New Paltz. McEntee, who put up a “double-double” of 15 points (nine of 10 free throws) and 10 rebounds (eight on offense) by halftime, established a Coles Sports Center record for points scored and free throws made in a game. The 19 rebounds marked the second-best total of her career.

Tyler Nading — Washington University — Highlands Ranch, CO (Thunder Ridge)
Junior forward Tyler Nading of Washington University averaged 24 points and seven rebounds en route to earning the Robert L. Burnes Most Valuable Player honor at the 24th Annual Washington University/Lopata Classic. Nading tallied 23 points and five rebounds in a 94-64 opening round win against Earlham College before scoring 25 points on 10-for-14 shooting from the field, and pulling down nine rebounds in a 68-66 win over Babson College in the championship game.
Women’s Fencing
Sophia Ciaravino — New York University — North Wales, PA (Lansdale Catholic)
Freshman Sophia Ciaravino of New York University posted a 14-4 record in the foil during the Princeton University Duals. Ciaravino compiled a perfect 3-0 record in bouts against Vassar College (a 20-7 victory), Temple University, and the University of North Carolina, and finished 2-1 versus Princeton University and Harvard University.
Olivia Etkind — Brandeis University — Leawood, KS (Blue Valley North)
Brandeis University freshman Olivia Etkind posted the top overall record for the Judges in an eight-match week, registering a 16-4 record in the sabre. Etkind posted a 6-2 record in the weapon during the three-team Harvard University Beanpot Tournament, winning all three bouts in a 19-8 triumph over Boston College, and picking up an additional two victories in a 15-12 win over Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She was the team’s top individual during the Brandeis University Invitational with a 10-2 mark in the weapon, posting a 3-0 bouts record in Judges' victories over Tufts University (16-11) and Yale University (16-11).

Jared Hammond — New York University — Bernardsville, NJ (Bernards)
Sophomore Jared Hammond of New York University posted an 11-3 record in the sabre at the Princeton University Duals over the weekend. Hammond was a perfect 3-0 in losses to Vassar College and host Princeton, while compiling 2-1 bout marks against Harvard University (a 17-10 victory) and Penn State University, improving to 14-3 on the season.
Women’s Swimming and Diving
Liz Horvat — Emory University — Bettendorf, IA (Pleasant Valley)
Emory University freshman Liz Horvat recorded five NCAA Division III qualifying times during the three-day Miami University (OH) Invitational. Horvat posted automatic qualifying times in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:16.80), good for a sixth-place finish, and the 400-yard individual medley (4:28.13), placing tenth. She rounded out the meet with three provisional qualifying times, finishing fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:01.95), sixth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.42), and seventh as part of the Eagles’ 400-yard freestyle relay (3:33.60).
Jacki Powers — Emory University — Guilford, CT (Guilford)
Senior Jacki Powers of Emory University turned in top-three finishes in the diving events to help the Eagles to a 145-81 dual meet win over the University of the South. Powers captured the three-meter springboard with a score of 257.40 points, missing the NCAA Division III qualifying standard by eight points. She finished second in the one-meter event with 230.40 points.

Keith Diggs — Emory University — Vienna, VA (Thomas Jefferson)
Emory University junior Keith Diggs registered four individual NCAA Division III qualifying times at the Miami University (OH) Invitational. Diggs finished third in the 1,650-yard freestyle with an automatic qualifying time of 15:39.87, and followed with a school-record and automatic qualifying time in the 400-yard individual medley, finishing third with a time of 3:57.96. Diggs completed the meet with two additional provisional qualifying times, finishing fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:33.82), and 12th in the 200-yard individual medley (1:54.65), helping the third-ranked Eagles to a third-place finish in the 13-team meet.

Jami Edwards — Emory University — Madison, GA (Morgan County)
Emory University freshman Jami Edwards established a school record in the 60-meter dash at the season-opening Clemson University Opener. Competing against a field of NCAA Division I and II competitors, Edwards finished 22nd out of 64 competitors with a time of 7.86 seconds, just two hundredths of a second shy of an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time. She also finished 28th in a field of 56 competitors in the 200-meter dash, recording the third-fastest time in school history with a time of 26.52 seconds.
Men’s Indoor Track and Field
Frederick Linton — Emory University — Decatur, GA (Westminster)
Emory University senior Frederick Linton established NCAA Division III provisional qualifying times in two events, setting a school record in one, during the season-opening Clemson University Opener. Linton established the school record in the preliminary heat of the 60-meter dash, clocking a time of 6.94 seconds. He posted a time of 6.98 seconds in the finals to finish tenth in a field of 60 competitors. He followed with a provisional-qualifying performance in the 400-meter dash, finishing fifth with a time of 49.22 seconds, the fourth fastest time in school history and the top finish by a Division III competitor at the predominantly Division I meet. Linton finished the day by running the leadoff leg of the 1,600-meter relay, guiding Emory to an 11th-place finish in a time of 3:26.46.
Wrestling
John Dack — New York University — Oakland, NJ (Don Bosco Prep)
Freshman John Dack of New York University posted a 3-2 record in the 149-pound weight class at the Simpson College Invitational. Dack opened with decisions over opponents from Dana College (9-4) and Waldorf College (7-5) before dropping a sudden-death overtime decision in the quarterfinals to the third seed and eventual runner-up from host Simpson. In the consolation bracket, Dack posted a 10-3 victory over a second competitor from Waldorf College before dropping a 7-0 decision to an opponent from Wartburg College. Dack is now 4-4 in the weight class for the Violets.

Ashley Horton — Case Western Reserve University — Akron, OH (Archbishop Hoban)
Senior center Ashley Horton of Case Western Reserve University registered three consecutive “double-double” performances in averaging 15.7 points, 11.3 rebounds, and shooting 59 percent (23 of 39) from the field in a 1-2 week for the Spartans. After opening the week with 17 points and 10 rebounds in a 79-65 loss to Baldwin-Wallace College, Horton collected 18 points and a season-high 14 rebounds in a 70-63 loss to defending NCAA Division III champion DePauw University in the opening game of the Thomas More College shootout. She finished the weekend with 12 points and 10 rebounds in a 67-53 victory over Centre College.
Jaimie McFarlin — Washington University — Monroe, NY (Burke Catholic)
Washington University junior forward Jaimie McFarlin averaged 14.7 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 3.3 blocks in a 3-0 week, capped off by earning Most Valuable Player accolades during the seventh annual McWilliams Classic hosted by the Bears. McFarlin began the week with a six-point, nine-rebound, three-blocked shot performance in an 82-38 triumph over Blackburn College before breaking out with a career-high 28 points to go with 18 rebounds, five assists, and four blocked shots in a 78-75 double-overtime win over Kenyon College in the opening round of tournament play, She finished the weekend with 10 points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots in a 58-51 victory over Carleton College in the championship game.

Matt Corning — University of Chicago — Wauconda, IL (Mundelein)
University of Chicago junior guard Matt Corning averaged 27.5 points in two games en route to garnering All-Tournament Team honors at the DePauw University/Mike Rokicki Community Versus Cancer Challenge, shooting 69.2 percent (18 of 26) from the floor, 62.5 percent (five of eight) from three-point range, and 87.5 percent (14 of 16) from the free-throw line. Corning tallied 29 points (10 of 14 field goals with a pair of 3-pointers, seven of eight free throws), six rebounds, and a steal in an 89-75 win over Transylvania University in the opening-round before pouring in a game-high 26 points in an 81-67 loss to host DePauw in the championship game.
Tyler Nading — Washington University — Highlands Ranch, CO (Thunder Ridge)
Junior forward Tyler Nading of Washington University averaged 20.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, and three steals in a 2-1 week for the Bears. After opening the week with 10 points, five rebounds, three blocked shots, and two steals in an 85-59 win over Maryville University, Nading averaged 25 points in two games during the Washington University/Webster University Tournament, tallying 20 points and a season-best 12 rebounds in a 66-60 loss to fifth-ranked Augustana College (IL) and posting a career-high 31 points to go with a school record-tying seven steals in an 87-76 win over University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Nading shot 65.8 percent (25 of 30) from the floor for the three-game week.
Football — Offense
Dan Whalen — Case Western Reserve University — Willoughby, OH (Willoughby South)
Case Western Reserve University sophomore quarterback Dan Whalen completed 24 of 49 passes for 303 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for a score early in the fourth quarter as the Spartans had their undefeated season and 12-game winning streak (dating back to the final game of 2006) come to an end with a 38-23 loss to Wabash College in the second round of the 2007 NCAA Division III championship. Trailing 21-0, Whalen accounted for Case’s first score with a 45-yard pass with 1:15 remaining in the second quarter. After scoring on a three-yard run 2:47 into the fourth quarter, Whalen pulled the Spartans to within eight points with a 17-yard pass with 4:33 to play before Wabash secured the win with a touchdown a minute later. Whalen also averaged 40 yards on five punts, including a long of 57 yards.

Jon Tiemeier — Case Western Reserve University — Cincinnati, OH (Elder)
Mike Tuertscher — Case Western Reserve University — Cincinnati, OH (Colerain)
The Case Western Reserve University senior trio of Tom Brew, John Tiemeier, and Mike Tuertscher combined to make 44 tackles in a 38-23 loss to Wabash College in the second round of the 2007 NCAA Division III Football Championship. Tiemeier registered a game-high 18 tackles, including a pair of pass breakups, while Brew, the two-time UAA Defensive Player of the Year, followed with 16 tackles (four solo), and Tuertscher added 10 tackles.

Sam Coffey — Case Western Reserve University — Middletown, OH (Lakota East)
Freshman place kicker Sam Coffey of Case Western Reserve University nailed a 38-yard field goal and converted two of three extra point opportunities in the Spartans’ 38-23 loss to Wabash College in the second round of the 2007 NCAA Division III Football Championship. Coffey set school records in his rookie season, kicking12 field goals and converting 49 of 51 extra points (96.1 percent).

Jessica McEntee — New York University — Flushing, NY (Archbishop Molloy)
New York University junior forward Jessica McEntee averaged 19 points and 13 rebounds en route to Most Valuable Player honors in helping the Violets to the championship of their own NYU Tip-Off Tournament. McEntee, who shot 52.6 percent (14 of 26) from the field and 66.7 percent (16-for-24) from the free-throw line for the weekend, collected 14 points and 10 boards in a season-opening 61-40 victory over Trinity College (CT). In the championship game against Farmingdale State College, she tallied game-highs of 24 points and 16 rebounds in a in a 71-61 triumph.

Joe Coppens — Brandeis University — Rockland, MA (Rockland)
Senior guard Joe Coppens of Brandeis University averaged 17 points and three rebounds in leading the Judges to a pair of victories in the Brandeis University Tip-Off Classic, accounting for the go-ahead baskets in come-from-behind efforts in both games. He scored a traditional three-point play with 17 minutes remaining in the second half as part of a 10-point performance in a 70-61 win over Kenyon College. The next day, Coppens hit a three-point field goal from the top of the key with 2:31 remaining that brought Brandeis back from an 11-point deficit in the second half en route to an 84-79 triumph over Bridgewater State College, finishing with 24 points, five rebounds, and four assists. For the weekend, Coppens shot 55 percent from the floor (11 of 20), 55.6 percent (five of nine) from 3-point range, and 87.5 percent (seven of eight) from the line.
Tyler Nading — Washington University — Highlands Ranch, CO (Thunder Ridge)
Washington University junior forward Tyler Nading averaged 20.5 points and three rebounds in two games at the Calvin College Tip-Off Tournament in Grand Rapids, MI, earning All-Tournament Team honors. After scoring 17 points on seven-for-11 field goal shooting in a 74-68 season-opening win over Ohio Northern University, Nading led all scorers with 24 points, hitting 10 of 14 from the floor, and added four rebounds, two blocked shots, and two steals in an 87-82 loss to host and 17th-ranked Calvin College in the championship game.

Esther Erb — Case Western Reserve University — Richmond, VA (Maggie L. Walker)
Senior Esther Erb of Case Western Reserve University earned All-America accolades for the second consecutive year at the 2007 NCAA Division III Women’s Cross Country Championships in Northfield, MN, leading the Spartans to their best-ever finish with a sixth-place performance in the 32-team field. Erb posted a 27th-place finish in the field of 280 runners, completing the 6,000-meter race in a time of 22:02.
Tricia Frisella — Washington University — St. Louis, MO (Visitation Academy)
Washington University senior Tricia Frisella ran to an 18th-place finish in a field of 280 competitors at the 2007 NCAA Division III Women’s Cross Country Championships in Northfield, MN, helping the Bears match their best showing in NCAA competition with a third-place finish. Frisella garnered All-America honors for the second time in her career, completing the 6,000-meter race in a time of 21:49.

Hany Abdallah — New York University — Madison, NJ (Madison)
New York University senior captain Hany Abdallah garnered All-American honors for the third consecutive year at the 2007 NCAA Division III Men’s Cross Country Championship in Northfield, MN, leading the Violets to their first national title. Abdallah matched his best showing in the NCAA meet with a ninth-place finish in the 280-runner field, completing the 8,000-meter race in a time of 24:52 as NYU totaled 128 points to top the 32-team field, fighting off challenges from second-place Haverford College (150) and third-place State University of New York at Cortland (158).
Brian Harvey — Carnegie Mellon University — Ellicott City, MD (Centennial)
Junior Brian Harvey of Carnegie Mellon University placed 12th in a field of 280 competitors at the 2007 NCAA Division Men’s Cross Country III Championship in Northfield, MN, leading the Tartans to a ninth-place finish in the 32-team field. Harvey completed the 8,000-meter race in a time of 24:57, marking the second time he has broken the 25-minute mark.

Dan Whalen — Case Western Reserve University — Willoughby, OH (Willoughby South)
Sophomore quarterback Dan Whalen of Case Western Reserve University completed 26 of 47 passes for 306 yards and two touchdowns, the second being the game-winner in the game’s closing seconds, to lead the Spartans to a 21-20 win over Widener University in the opening round of the NCAA Division III championship. Whalen hit wide receiver Shaun Nicely with a 97-yard reception to give Case a 15-14 lead with 7:23 to play in the fourth quarter. After Widener regained the lead with 1:27 to play, Whalen sparked a 14-play, 73-yard game-winning drive, converting three fourth-down passes, the last one resulting in a seven-yard touchdown pass with two seconds remaining.

Mike Tuertscher — Case Western Reserve University — Mentor, OH (Mentor)
Case Western Reserve University senior linebacker Mike Tuertscher registered a game-high tying 11 tackles (two for a loss of four yards), an interception, and a quarterback sack to help the Spartans to a 21-20 victory over Widener University in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Football Championship. Tuertscher and the Case defense limited the Widener offense to 79 yards rushing and 262 yards of total offense.
Football — Special Teams
Brian Calderone — Case Western Reserve University — Broadview Heights, OH (Brecksville-Broadview)
Junior Brian Calderone of Case Western Reserve University averaged 32.2 yards on five punts and registered six tackles and a quarterback sack as a defensive end to contribute to the Spartans’ 21-20 victory over Widener University in the first round of the 2007 NCAA Division III Football Championship. Two of his punts fell inside or near the Widener 20-yard line, including a long of 52-yards that pinned the Pride inside their own 18-yard line early in the second quarter.
Women’s Soccer — Offense
Jamie English — Emory University — Atlanta, GA (Paideia)
Emory University senior Jamie English scored the lone goal for the Eagles in their 2-1 overtime loss to host Lynchburg College in the third round of the 2007 NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship. English forced overtime with the game-tying goal, deflecting the ball into the corner of the net in the 68th minute. The goal was her 11th of the season, and completes her collegiate career with 21 goals and 58 points.
Men’s Soccer — Offense
John Hengel — Washington University — Milwaukee, WI (Marquette University High)
Sophomore forward John Hengel of Washington University accounted for all of the scoring for the Bears during sectional play of the 2007 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship. He scored the game’s lone goal in the 54th minute in a 1-0 third-round victory over Transylvania University, and netted the team’s only goal in the 85th minute during a 2-1 quarterfinal loss to top-ranked Trinity University.

John Smelcer — Washington University — St. Louis, MO (Christian Brothers College High)
Washington University sophomore goalkeeper John Smelcer tallied a shutout and made several big saves in helping the Bears reach the quarterfinal round during sectional play of the 2007 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship. Smelcer tallied his tenth shutout of the season in a 1-0 third-round triumph over Transylvania University before making six saves in a 2-1 quarterfinal loss to top-ranked Trinity University (TX), the top-scoring team in NCAA Division III.
Women’s Swimming and Diving
Molly Evans — Carnegie Mellon University — Butler, PA (Butler)
Freshman Molly Evans of Carnegie Mellon University won three individual events, establishing school records and NCAA Division III provisional qualifying times in two, in helping the Tartans to three dual victories in their own quadrangular invitational over the weekend. Evans improved her season-best times in capturing the 100-yard backstroke (:58.55) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:11.22), setting new school records and surpassing NCAA Division III provisional qualifying times, and also claimed the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.40) as Carnegie Mellon defeated Franklin & Marshall College, Washington & Lee University, and UAA rival University of Rochester.
Priya Srikanth — Washington University — Chicago, IL (Illinois Math & Science Academy)
Washington University senior diver Priya Srikanth easily surpassed NCAA Division III qualifying standards in winning the one-meter and three-meter springboards during the Washington University Thanksgiving Invitational. Srikanth compiled 468.50 points in the one-meter event, breaking an eight-year-old school record of 425.25 points and surpassing the NCAA qualifying standard by nearly 74 points, while her winning score of 467.20 points in the three-meter event is more than 50 points better than the qualifying mark in that event.

Matt Kuhn — Carnegie Mellon University — Pittsburgh, PA (North Allegheny)
Sophomore Matt Kuhn of the Carnegie Mellon University Men’s Swimming and Diving team won both the one-meter and three-meter boards Saturday at the Carnegie Mellon Quad Duals. Kuhn scored 238.95 points in the one-meter springboard and 257.85 in the three-meter.

The junior registered his second career-best time of the day in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing second in a time of 10:14.37. The two-time All-American has helped the second-ranked Eagles to a 4-0 record in dual meets this season.

Washington University junior outside hitter Alli Alberts was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2007 NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship in Bloomington, IL, helping the Bears to their Division III-record ninth national title. Alberts finished the three-match week with 39 kills (3.00 per game), 53 digs, and seven total blocks. She totaled 13 kills, 15 digs, and five blocks in a four-game quarterfinal triumph over Association rival Emory University, and tallied 15 kills and 22 digs in a five-game win over the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the championship match.

Senior captain Nick Coleman of New York University won four matches to capture the 184-pound weight class and garner Most Outstanding Wrestler accolades at the State University of New York at Oneonta Red Dragon Classic, leading the Violets to a runner-up finish in the 12-team field. The top seed in the weight class, Coleman earned a first-round bye before registering a fall and three decisions, capping the run with an 8-3 triumph over the second seed from the State University of New York at Cortland.

Senior Esther Erb of Case Western Reserve University topped a field of 231 runners to win the women’s 6,000-meter race at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championships in Grand Rapids, MI. Erb completed the race in a time of 21:13.15, one second off the course record, to win her sixth race of the season and lead the Spartans to a second-place finish in the 31-team field, qualifying for the NCAA Division III Women’s Cross Country Championship in Northfield, MN.

New York University senior captain Hany Abdallah finished second in a field of 271 competitors in helping the host Violets defend their team title at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Championships at Van Cortlandt Park. Abdallah ran the 8,000-meter course in a time of 24:29.7 as NYU totaled 37 points in the 39-team field, earning a berth to the NCAA Division III Men’s Cross Country Championship in Northfield, MN.

Junior Brian Harvey of Carnegie Mellon University captured the men’s 8,000-meter individual title at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships in Bethlehem, PA, leading the Tartans to a third-place finish in the 41-team field and an at-large berth to the NCAA Division III championships in Northfield, MN. Harvey completed the race in a personal best time of 24:44, becoming the first Carnegie Mellon runner to win a regional meet.

Sophomore Sam Frons of New York University won all six of her bouts in the foil as the Violets opened their dual-match season with a pair of victories over Stevens Institute of Technology. She posted a 3-0 record in a 23-4 win over Stevens in the first match, then repeated the feat in the second meeting between teams, a 21-6 victory.

New York University freshman Carrington Harris won four bouts in the foil as the Violets opened their dual-match season with a pair of victories over Stevens Institute of Technology. Harris finished 2-1 in a 22-5 win over the Ducks in the first match, then went 2-1 again, including the deciding fifth foil team victory, as the Violets defeated Stevens, 18-9, in the second half of the doubleheader.

Senior halfback Robert Gimson of Carnegie Mellon University ran for a game-high 161 yards on 27 carries and scored a career-high three touchdowns to help lead the Tartans to a 39-21 victory over Washington & Lee University. Gimson, who surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the second straight season on his final carry of the game (a 35-yard touchdown run), headed a backfield that ran for 315 yards.

Washington University junior defensive back Tommy Bawden returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown in the Bears’ season-ending 30-20 win at Greenville College. The 100-yard interception return tied a school record set in 1948 against Grinnell College. Bawden also added six tackles, including 1.5 for lost yardage, in the victory.
Tom Brew — Case Western Reserve University — Mentor, OH (Mentor)
Senior linebacker Tom Brew of Case Western Reserve University made a team-high 14 tackles, recovered a fumble, and registered a pass breakup in the Spartans’ 20-17 victory over Ohio Wesleyan University. The win completed an undefeated 10-0 campaign, earning the program’s first NCAA Division III Football Championship berth. Brew made the game’s final tackle, ending a potential game-winning drive by Ohio Wesleyan, to secure the undefeated season.

Freshman place kicker Sam Coffey of Case Western Reserve University converted two of three field goal attempts, including a game-winning 23-yard kick with 1:34 to play in the fourth quarter, in helping the Spartans to a 20-17 victory over Ohio Wesleyan University, completing a perfect 10-0 regular season and earning their first ever berth to the NCAA Division III Championship. Coffey, who also connected on a 42-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter, has hit a school-record 10 field goals on the season, and finished 2-for-2 in extra-point attempts, improving to 97-percent on the year.

Senior forward Tzlil Castel of Brandeis University earned Most Valuable Player honors in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Championship, accounting for all of the scoring for the Judges in their run to their first team title. Castel scored the game’s lone score in a 1-0 semifinal win over Massachusetts Institute of Technology and scored both goals in a 2-0 triumph over Keene State College in the championship game. All three goals came after scoreless first halves. Castel finished the season with a team-leading 10 goals.
Caryn Rosoff — Washington University — Beverly Hills, CA (Harvard-Westlake)
Washington University sophomore forward Caryn Rosoff tallied a goal and four assists as the Bears advanced to sectional play of the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship with two victories at home on the weekend. Rosoff registered assists on all three goals during a 3-1 opening round win over Webster University, then followed with a goal and an assist in a 3-0 triumph over Denison University in the second round. Her six-point weekend moved her into eighth place on the school’s all-time scoring list with 55 points.

Emory University junior Grace Lam spearheaded a defensive unit that held visiting and 13th-ranked Hardin-Simmons University without a shot on goal and only one shot for the game during a 1-0 triumph in the second-round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship. Lam made the key play of the game with 11 minutes remaining in the second half, blocking Hardin-Simmons’ lone shot on a sliding tackle with the Emory goalkeeper out of position. Lam and the Emory defense have registered 13 shutouts on the year with a 0.41 goals against average, which ranks 11th in NCAA Division III.

Sophomore forward Scott Cady of the University of Rochester scored two goals, one a game-winner, to propel the Yellowjackets into the “Sweet 16” of the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship. Cady scored the game’s opening goal in the third minute of a 3-0 opening round victory over Keuka College, then followed with an insurance goal on a header six minutes into the second half in a 2-0 win over 22nd-ranked Hobart College in the second round.

University of Rochester sophomore goalkeeper Michael Peacock accounted for back-to-back shutouts during the first two rounds of the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship. After making only one save in a 3-0 win over Keuka College, Peacock made six saves, five coming in the second half, as the Yellowjackets defeated 22nd-ranked Hobart College, 2-0, to advance to the “Sweet 16” in Grantham, PA. The victory avenged a 1-0 loss to the Statesmen on Sept. 15, the Yellowjackets’ last defeat before going 12-0-1.
John Smelcer — Washington University — St. Louis, MO (Christian Brothers College High)
Sophomore goalkeeper John Smelcer of Washington University yielded only one goal in the Bears’ first and second round weekend wins in the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship. He allowed the lone goal in a 2-1 win over Carthage College in the opening round, then made three saves in posting his ninth shutout of the season in a 1-0 overtime triumph over Dominican University (IL) in round two.

Emory University freshman Marie Kim recorded NCAA Division III provisional qualifying times in two individual events and a relay during the Emory University Fall Invitational. Competing against a number of the top club teams in the region, Kim finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke in a provisional qualifying time of 1:07.50, followed with a fifth-place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.69), and swam the second leg of the Eagles’ runner-up 400-yard medley relay, which posting a provisional qualifying time of 4:00.20.
Priya Srikanth — Washington University — Chicago, IL (Illinois Math & Science Academy)
Washington University senior diver Priya Srikanth established NCAA Division III qualifying scores in winning the one-meter and three-meter diving events at the University of Chicago Maroon Invitational. Srikanth, the reigning UAA Diver of the Year, registered pool records in both events, compiling 477.25 points in the three-meter event, and totaling 416.8 points in the one-meter springboard.

Junior Keith Diggs of Emory University recorded two NCAA Division III provisional qualifying times at the Emory University Fall Invitational. Diggs finished second in the 400-yard individual medley with a provisional qualifying mark of 4:05.03 and finished second in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a provisional qualifying time of 16:15.19. In addition to his qualifying times, Diggs finished third in the 200-yard individual medley, sixth in the 100-yard freestyle, and swam legs on the victorious 400-yard medley relay and second place 400-yard freestyle relay.
Max Norris — New York University — Rochester, NY (McQuaid Jesuit)
Freshman Max Norris of New York University continued his impressive collegiate season by winning both the one-meter and three-meter diving events as the Violets produced a 168-130 victory over the United States Coast Guard Academy and a 217-61 win over Wheaton College (MA) to improve to 5-0 on the season. Norris tallied 260.32 points on the one-meter springboard and scored 217.20 points in capturing the three-meter event.

Alysse Meyer — Emory University — Stockton, CA (Lincoln)
Sophomore outside hitter Alysse Meyer of Emory University tallied a team-high 51 kills with a .430 hitting percentage (51 kills, eight errors on 100 attacks) and added seven service aces in helping the fifth-ranked Eagles to three victories and the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship South Region title. After notching 11 kills in a three-game sweep of Piedmont College, Meyer chalked up a team-high 20 kills and a .576 hitting percentage in a three-game sweep of host Austin College, and added another 20 kills, a .311 hitting percentage, and seven digs in a four-game triumph over third-ranked Trinity University (TX) in the title game.

Case Western Reserve University senior Dave won all three of his matches at 141 pounds at the Baldwin-Wallace College Quadrangular. After receiving a forfeit versus Waynesburg College, Manoogian grappled his way to two victories, registering a fall in 4:06 against the College of Mount St. Joseph and scoring a 13-3 decision over host Baldwin-Wallace College in his final match of the day.

The Brandeis University foil duo of senior Stefanie Aucoin and junior Jessie Newhall finished tied for third place in the weapon at the New England Fall Collegiate Tournament in South Hadley, MA. Both finished 6-0 to win their respective pools and earn the third and fourth seeds in the elimination round. After first-round byes, they each won three matches before falling to the tournament's top two seeds to finish 9-1.

Sophomore Will Bedor of Brandeis University was the individual champion in the epee at the season opening New England Fall Collegiate Tournament in South Hadley, MA. Bedor, ranked 17th in the field after going 4-2 in pool play, ran off six straight wins in the elimination round en route to the title, which was capped with a 15-3 win over his opponent from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the finals.

Freshman Hugo Rodrigues of New York University, competing in his first collegiate competition, went undefeated en route to capturing the sabre championship at the Temple University Open. Carnegie Mellon University senior fullback Travis Sivek ran for 131 yards on 21 carries with three touchdowns to help lead the Tartans to a 42-19 victory over Bethany College of West Virginia. His three touchdowns moved him into 20th place on the NCAA Division III career-scoring list with 348 points. He needs 24 yards to reach the 4,000-yard milestone for his career.

Freshman wide receiver Shaun Nicely of Case Western Reserve University caught 12 passes for 166 yards and three touchdowns, all career highs, to help the Spartans claim their first outright UAA championship with a 35-27 victory over Washington University. Emory University junior Patrick Carver scored two goals in leading the Eagles to a 4-0 triumph over Carnegie Mellon University. Carver scored the opening goal of the match in the 13th minute, then struck again in the 51st minute. He finished the regular season as the top goal scorer in UAA play (six) and finished tied with teammate Patrick McFarland as the Association’s top points scorer with 16 points. Carver will lead the Eagles into the NCAA Division III Championship as the team’s scoring leader with 16 goals and 41 points.

Junior Drew Gardella of Case Western Reserve University won the 149-pound weight class at the season-opening Messiah College Invitational. The top seed in the weight class, Gardella, earned a bye in the opening round before running off three victories, which were capped with a 10-5 decision in the finals over his opponent from Johns Hopkins University.

Erb bested a field of 78 competitors in becoming the Spartans’ first female UAA cross country champion, completing the 6,000-meter race in a time of 22:19, ten seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Erb, who won her fifth individual race of the season, also garnered All-UAA first team honors for the third straight year in leading eighth-ranked Case to a second-place finish.

New York University junior Ryan Williams claimed the men’s individual title at the 2007 UAA Cross Country Championships hosted by Brandeis University at Franklin Park in Boston, MA, leading the second-ranked Violets to a successful defense of their team title. Williams, only the second Violet male runner to capture the Association individual title in three years, led a group of three NYU runners to cross the finish line 1-2-3 in the 78-runner field, completing the 8,000-meter course in a time of 25:02 en route to first team All-UAA honors for the second consecutive year.

Sophomore quarterback Dan Whalen of Case Western Reserve University accounted for all of the scoring for the undefeated Spartans during a 35-3 road win over the University of Chicago. Whalen accounted for nearly half of the Spartans’ 65-play, 350 yards of total offense, completing 15 of 28 passes for 163 yards and four touchdowns and rushing nine times for 61 yards and a touchdown. His five touchdowns tied for the most points scored in a Case football game since 2003, while his four touchdown passes were one shy of the UAA single game record.

Emory University junior Jeremy Evans finished 12th in a field of 63 golfers in leading the Eagles to a tie for ninth place at the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe University Fall Invitational. Evans posted a four-over-par 146 for 36 holes, which included an opening-round score of 69, his third sub-par round of the fall. Evans finished the fall portion of the schedule with a team-best 74.4 strokes per-round average.

Caryn Rosoff — Washington University — Beverly Hills, CA (Harvard-Westlake)
Washington University sophomore forward Caryn Rosoff scored two goals and added two assists in helping the Bears secure their second straight UAA championship and fifth title overall with two weekend home victories. Rosoff scored the game-winning goal in the 57th minute and added an assist in a 3-1 victory over the University of Rochester on Friday, then followed with a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win over Case Western Reserve University two days later to lock up the title and the automatic berth to the NCAA Division III championship in November. Rosoff leads the team in points (20) and is tied for the team lead with eight goals.

Senior goalkeeper Amanda Sutter of the University of Chicago posted back-to-back shutouts this weekend in UAA play. Sutter made one save in a 3-0 win over Case Western Reserve University before collecting four saves in a 1-0 win over the University of Rochester. Sutter is the second-ranked goalie in Association play with a 0.62 goals against average and a UAA-best four shutouts.

Washington University freshman forward Harry Beddo scored the game’s only goal in the fourth minute of the second overtime to lead the Bears to a win over fifth-ranked Case Western Reserve University, capping a 1-0-1 UAA weekend and a 2-0-1 week. Beddo opened the week with a pair of goals, including the winning goal in the 60th minute, in a 3-1 win at Maryville University (MO). Beddo leads Washington in scoring, with nine goals and 20 points.

Junior defender Andre Jakubowski of Emory University was part of a defense that held opponents to two goals and scored a goal himself as the 17th-ranked Eagles won a pair of UAA weekend matches, setting themselves up for a shot at the Association title on the final weekend of play. Jakubowski and the Emory defense posted their eighth shutout of the season in a 4-0 triumph over Brandeis University, holding the Judges to four shots (two on goal). Two days later, the junior scored on a header in the 26th minute during a 4-2 win over New York University.

Carnegie Mellon University freshman Molly Evans made her intercollegiate debut with three event wins, a pair of NCAA Division III provisional qualifying times, and a school record during a dual meet with NCAA Division II Clarion University. Evans’ school record and first provisional qualifier came in the 200-yard backstroke, where her time of 2:05.71 bested the previous school record by more than seven seconds. She posted her second provisional qualifying time in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.96) and finished the day with a win in the 200-yard individual medley, touching the wall in 2:11.92.

Emory University senior Jaqueline Powers captured both the one-meter and three-meter springboards during a dual meet against NCAA Division I University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Powers recorded a score of 210.08 points in the one-meter dive and followed with a first-place score of 253.05 points in the three-meter event, missing the NCAA Division III qualifying standard by 1.95 points. Powers scored 18 of the Eagles’ points in a 164-132 loss.

Perry Bullock — Washington University — Millbrook, NY (Cardinal Gibbons)
Perry Bullock of Washington University recorded an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time in the Bears’ 161-139 dual meet win over DePauw University in one of two individual victories for the junior. Bullock won the 200-yard butterfly with a qualifying time of 1:54.38 and was victorious in the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.55). He also swam a leg on the first-place 200-yard medley relay (1:39.29).
Max Norris — New York University — Rochester, NY (McQuaid Jesuit)
Freshman diver Max Norris of New York University captured both the one-meter and three-meter diving events during a three-team UAA triangular dual meet with Case Western Reserve University and host University of Rochester. Norris totaled 242.35 points in the one-meter springboard, then followed with 248 points in winning the three-meter board as the Violets defeated both Case (192-106) and Rochester (215-85).

Alysse Meyer — Emory University — Stockton, CA (Lincoln)
Emory University sophomore outside hitter Alysse Meyer tallied a team-high 63 kills (4.50 per game) for a .381 hitting percentage to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team during the Emory University National Invitational, helping the Eagles to wins in three of four matches. Meyer, who also added 16 digs and five service aces on the weekend, compiled a career-high 21 kills and a .429 hitting percentage in a five-game loss to Birmingham Southern College, notched a team-high 18 kills and six digs in a four-game triumph over 10th-ranked Ohio Northern University, and tallied 19 kills in a three-game sweep of Baldwin-Wallace College.
Maggie Ramm — Emory University — Tampa, FL (H.B. Plant)
Senior libero Maggie Ramm of Emory University tallied 109 digs (6.87 per game) in helping the Eagles to a 3-1 record at the Emory University National Invitational. Ramm led the team in digs in all four matches, collecting 27 digs in a five-game loss to Birmingham Southern College, tallying 29 digs each in victories over 10th-ranked Ohio Northern University and Baldwin-Wallace College, and finished with 18 digs in a three-game sweep of Randolph-Macon College. Ramm has 439 digs through 32 matches this season, which ranks second on the school’s single-season list.
Women’s Cross Country
Natalie Wilson — New York University — Middletown, CT (Mercy)
Senior captain Natalie Wilson was the Violets’ top finisher as the New York University women's cross country team finished in third place at the Wellesley College Invitational on Saturday. Wilson ran the 5,000-meter course in a time of 20:39 to finish in ninth place. Wellesley won the race with the minimum score of 15, while Connecticut College just edged NYU (63-64) for second place.

Corey Checkan — Case Western Reserve University — Georgetown, PA (South Side Area)
Junior fullback Corey Checkan of Case Western Reserve University rushed 12 times for 69 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-0 shutout victory over St. Vincent College. He averaged 5.8 yards per carry and had a long rush of 19 yards. Checkan has nine touchdowns on the season.

Jonathan Bodnar — Carnegie Mellon University — Cheswick, PA (Deer Lakes)
Carnegie Mellon University senior outside linebacker Jonathan Bodnar headed a defense that held Chicago to 73 yards rushing in a 21-0 victory in Chicago Saturday afternoon. Bodnar led the defense with six tackles while recording one of the Tartans’ four interceptions. He also had one tackle for a loss of two yards.

Dan Whalen — Case Western Reserve University — Willoughby, OH (Willoughby South)
Sophomore quarterback Dan Whalen of Case Western Reserve University grossed 83 yards on two punts, including a long of 47 yards. Whalen also completed 13-of-17 passes for 155 yards and one touchdown and rushed for 23 yards and a touchdown on six carries in two quarters’ work.

Stephen Goodridge — University of Rochester — Attica, NY (Attica)
Senior Stephen Goodridge of the University of Rochester finished third individually at the McDaniel Invitational with a 146 (75-71). He finished three strokes off the lead to help the Yellowjackets finish eighth overall.

Katie Manuelli — University of Chicago — Hightstown, NJ (Peddie School)
Freshman defender Katie Manuelli collected two goals and an assist as the University of Chicago split a pair of non-conference matches. Manuelli opened the week with a goal and an assist 40 seconds apart in a 4-0 win over the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. She then scored with just five seconds left in regulation to force overtime against the nation’s top-ranked team, Wheaton (IL) College. Chicago eventually lost the match 3-2 in double overtime.

Emily Fedeles — Emory University — Tampa, FL (Hillsborough)
Goalkeeper Emily Fedeles recorded her fifth shutout of the season for 11th-ranked Emory University, leading the Eagles to a 1-0 victory over Birmingham Southern College last week. Fedeles played all 90 minutes of the game in goal, converting four saves, including one in the final second of the match to secure the victory for Emory. The senior began the week ranked fifth in the nation in goals against average, and since has lowered it to an Association-leading 0.23 this season. Fedeles has led the Eagles to a 12-1-1 record during the 2007 campaign.

Senior midfielder Jeritt Thayer of New York University tallied four goals and an assist in a 2-0 week for the Violets. In a 5-1 victory over Rowan University on Wednesday, Thayer produced two goals and an assist in the first ten minutes, including two scores in the first 4:44 of the contest. Four days later, he netted two more goals to give him a career-high 13 in a 4-0 road, non-conference victory over St. Joseph’s College (Long Island). Junior back Devin Freeman-Roche of New York University tallied an assist in a 2-0 week and spearheaded a defensive effort that helped the Violets outscore the opposition 9-1. Freeman-Roche produced his second assist of the season in a 5-1 victory over Rowan University on Wednesday. Andrew Lardiere — New York University — Walnut Creek, CA (Northgate)
Junior Andrew Lardiere of New York University captured three individual events and contributed to three triumphant relays as the Violets won the season-opening 2007 NYU Invitational. Lardiere set the pace in the 50 freestyle (21.82), 100 butterfly (54.31), and 200 freestyle (1:48.49). He also swam a leg on the winning 200 medley (1:40.59), 400 freestyle (3:19.14), and 400 medley (3:37.57) relays. Lardiere’s performance helped lead the Violets to the team title with 1,187 points.
Max Norris — New York University — Rochester, NY (McQuaid Jesuit)
Freshman Max Norris of New York University captured the one-meter dive in his first collegiate meet, helping the Violets win the season-opening 2007 NYU Invitational. Norris finished first in the one-meter springboard with a score of 261.82, defeating his nearest competitor by 26.92 points. Norris’ performance was instrumental in helping the Violets to a first-place finish. Overall, NYU totaled 1,187 points and easily defeated SUNY Cortland (877) and Stevens Institute of Technology (717).

Melanie Peters — New York University — San Antonio, TX (Sandra Day O’Connor)
Junior Melanie Peters of New York University finished three-for-three in diving competition for the week as the Violets defeated Division II Queens College and finished first at the 2007 NYU Invitational. In a164-104 victory over Queens on Wednesday, she won the one-meter diving event with a score of 395.25. At the NYU Invitational, Peters took the three-meter event with a score of 239.25, edging out the second-place finisher by 1.05 points. She finished her weekend by winning the one-meter event with an NCAA-qualifying total of 255.90. Her performance helped the Violets to the team title with 1,263.5 points.
Ruth Westby — Emory University — Dunwoody, GA (Chamblee Charter)
Emory University sophomore Ruth Westby finished first in three events and recorded two NCAA provisional qualifying times while competing against Division I Davidson College. Westby finished first with provisional times in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.80) and the 100-yard freestyle (52.05). She also swam on the first place 400-yard medley relay team, whose time of 4:00.95 was less than half a second shy of a provisional qualifying time. Westby’s performance helped the Eagles to a 127-116 win over Davidson.
Women’s Tennis
Holly Smith — New York University — Troy, MI (Troy Athens)
Senior Holly Smith of New York University captured the third singles title at the New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) Tennis Championships at Cornell University. Smith beat four opponents without dropping a set to win the flight. In Sunday’s final, she upset the top seed from Vassar College 6-0, 6-1 to claim the title. In Saturday’s semifinal, she defeated the #2-seed of Skidmore College 6-0, 6-0. Her performance helped the Violets to a 38-point total in finishing behind only Vassar (50 points) and Skidmore (44) in the 16-team competition.
Volleyball
Lorraine Wingenbach — Brandeis University — Buffalo, NY (City Honors)
Brandeis University junior outside hitter Lorraine Wingenbach averaged 5.06 kills and 3.06 digs per game and served for ten aces en route to All-Tournament Team honors at the Volleyball Hall of Fame Induction Tournament, leading the Judges to a 2-2 record and a fourth-place finish in the 16-team field. Wingenbach totaled 81 kills and a .242 hitting percentage for the weekend, leading the team in kills in each match. Her top effort came in a five-game loss to Williams College, where she tallied a career-high 31 kills with a .290 hitting percentage. She also added 16 digs, four blocks and three service aces.

Tricia Frisella — Washington University — St. Louis, MO (Visitation Academy)
Washington University senior Tricia Frisella finished fourth place in a field of 197 runners at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh/Brooks Invitational, completing the 6,000-meter race in a time of 21:31 to lead the Bears to top honors in the 16-team field.

Ryan Williams — New York University — Milltown, NJ (East Brunswick)
Senior Ryan Williams of New York University finished second in a field of 358 runners to lead the second-ranked Violets to the team title at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh/Brooks Invitational. Williams ran the 8,000-meter course in 24:10.04, finishing behind the individual champion from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. NYU totaled 68 team points to top the 22-team field, which included four NCAA Division III teams ranked among the top 15 nationally.

Senior fullback Travis Sivek of Carnegie Mellon University compiled a season-high 141 yards on 37 carries in the Tartans’ 20-17 loss to Case Western Reserve University in the 22nd annual “Academic Bowl,” the UAA opener for both teams. Sivek scored the lone offensive touchdown for Carnegie Mellon, giving the Tartans a 17-10 lead with 9:23 to play in the third quarter.

Case Western Reserve University freshman place kicker Sam Coffey nailed a 30-yard game-winning field goal in overtime to give the undefeated Spartans (6-0) a 20-17 win over host Carnegie Mellon University in the 22nd annual “Academic Bowl,” the UAA opener for both teams. Coffey, who finished with a pair of field goals and converted two point-after attempts, has made eight of 10 field goals and converted 29 of 30 extra points (96.7 percent) to rank second in the Association in scoring with 53 points (8.8 points per game).

Jeremy Evans — Emory University — Palm Harbor, FL (The Cambridge School)
Junior Jeremy Evans of Emory University finished second in a field of 87 golfers at the Tom and Bettie O’Briant Memorial hosted by Greensboro College, leading the Eagles into a four-way tie for fourth-place in the 18-team field. Evans finished with a two-day score of 140 (70-70), trailing the medalist from Washington & Lee University by five strokes. The effort tied him for third place on the school’s all-time list for the lowest score for 36-holes.

University of Chicago sophomore midfielder Claire Gill scored a goal in each match as the Maroons posted a 1-0-1 record on the road in Association play. Gill tallied a goal in the tenth minute of a 1-1 overtime draw with Brandeis University, then registered the winning goal two minutes into the game of a 4-0 victory over New York University.

Senior goalkeeper Molly Leitch of the University of Rochester combined for six saves in leading the Yellowjackets to an unbeaten week in UAA play. After making two saves in a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Carnegie Mellon University, Leitch posted her sixth shutout of the season with four saves in a 1-0 win over nationally-ranked and previously unbeaten Emory University.

Freshman goalkeeper Anya Rosen of Carnegie Mellon University made ten total saves in leading the Tartans to a 1-0-1 week. After registering a career-high seven saves in a 1-1 double-overtime draw with the University of Rochester, Rosen tallied her fourth shutout of the year with three saves in a 1-0 win at Case Western Reserve University.

Junior forward Adam Dhanens of New York University tallied a career-high five points in a 3-2 UAA victory over the University of Chicago. After tallying the game’s opening goal at the 14:46 mark of the first period, Dhanens broke a 1-1 deadlock with the winning goal at 74:21. He assisted on an insurance goal 83 seconds later.
