UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Andrew Lardiere (NYU): The junior captured three individual titles and swam on four winning relays en route to being named Swimmer of the Year at the 2008 UAA Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by the University of Rochester at the Webster Aquatic Center. Lardiere became the first Association male swimmer to sweep all three freestyle sprint events, claiming titles at 50, 100, and 200 yards (setting UAA records at the shorter distances in the preliminary heats). He swam the anchor leg on the Violets’ 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relays, both setting UAA meet records, the 400-yard medley relay, and the meet-ending 400-yard freestyle relay. MM• Max Norris (NYU): The freshman swept the one-meter and three-meter diving events in garnering Diver of the Year honors at the 2008 UAA Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by the University of Rochester at the Webster Aquatic Center. Norris earned NCAA Division III qualifying scores in winning both events, totaling 468.65 points on the three-meter board, and tallying 444.87 points at one meter. UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Max Norris (NYU): The freshman won the one-meter springboard with an NCAA Division III provisional-qualifying score of 290.85 points, and finished second in the three-meter springboard (259.58 points) in helping the Violets to a 169-106 victory over Vassar College, securing an undefeated dual season with a 9-0 record. MM• John Petroff (Emory): The sophomore registered a pair of top-three finishes for the fourth-ranked Eagles during a triangular dual meet against host University of North Carolina, the 15th-ranked team in NCAA Division I, and Johns Hopkins University, ranked third in Division III. Petroff was the top finisher in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.38 seconds, then posted a Division III provisional qualifying mark in the 200-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 1:54.45.
MM• Robbie Browning (Case): The sophomore won the 50-yard freestyle (23.14 second), the 100-yard butterfly (53.16 seconds), and swam the leadoff leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:42.68) in contributing to the Spartans' 115-108 victory over Allegheny College. MM• Shane Carlson (Chicago): The junior recorded a school record time of 1:58.14 in winning the 200-yard individual medley and was also victorious in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.89) as the 10th-ranked Maroons defeated ninth-ranked DePauw University, 184-115. MM• Brad Hartstein (NYU): The senior captured both the 100-yard (1:02.06) and 200-yard (2:17.02) breaststrokes, and swam a leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:41.46) as the Violets completed their 2007-08 dual season with a perfect 9-0 record with a 169-106 victory at Vassar College. MM• James Liu (Brandeis): The sophomore helped the Judges to a 155-120 win over Worcester Polytechnic Institute in their regular-season finale, capturing the 100-yard freestyle (48.92 seconds) and the 100-yard butterfly (54.47 seconds), finishing second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.62), and anchoring the winning 400-yard freestyle relay (3:20.4) with a split of 48.32 seconds. MM• Tom McConnell (Carnegie Mellon): The junior registered a career-best time of 9:39.24 in winning the 1,000-yard freestyle and finished third in the 500-yard freestyle (4:43.79) in helping the Tartans post a 3-1 record in quadrangular meet competition at the University of Pittsburgh. UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Keith Diggs (Emory): The junior recorded the lone first-place finish for the Eagles during a 182-91 dual loss to host and NCAA Division I neighbor Georgia Institute of Technology. Diggs finished first in the 1,000-yard freestyle, swimming a career-best time of 9:36.25, while finishing second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:42.29. MM• Brad Thornton (NYU): The senior won three individual events, establishing pool records in two of them, to help the Violets (8-0) to a 167.5-132.5 triumph over The College of New Jersey in their final home dual meet of the season. Thornton set pool records in winning the 100-yard breaststroke (58.98 seconds) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.51), while adding a win in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.01).
MM• Cole Brown (Rochester): The freshman won the 500-yard (5:01.00) and 1,000-yard (10:15.13) freestyles and finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.66) in leading the Yellowjackets to their third straight victory in a 128-115 triumph over Ithaca College. MM• Shane Carlson (Chicago): The junior notched first-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.78), 200-yard individual medley (1:58.60), and 500-yard freestyle (4:45.05) to help the 24th-ranked Maroons to victories over 10th-ranked Carthage College (180-104) and 25th-ranked Wheaton (IL) College, 223-61. Carlson also swam the second leg of the Maroons' first place 200-yard medley relay (1:38.27). MM• Tom McConnell (Carnegie Mellon): The junior won both distance freestyle events in helping the Tartans (7-1) to a 115-88 dual meet win at Westminster College (PA), touching the wall in 4:48.73 in the 500-yard freestyle and 16:27.80 in the 1,650-yard freestyle. MM• Zach Rubenstein (Brandeis): The freshman captured the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:18.65) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.05), and anchored the winning 400-yard freestyle relay (:53.69 split) to help the Judges defeat Clark University, 121-71. MM• Drew Swartz (Case): The sophomore won the 200-yard individual medley, finished second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.73), and swam the leadoff leg of the victorious 400-yard medley relay (3:38.37) in the Spartans' 112.5-110.5 loss to Wittenberg University. UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Shane Carlson (Chicago): The junior won three individual events and swam legs on three winning relays in leading the Maroons to top team honors in their own 10-team University of Chicago Invitational. Carlson took top honors in the 100-yard (1:00.74) and 200-yard (2:21.52) breaststrokes and added a victory in the 400-yard individual medley (4:11.61). In the relays, he swam the leadoff leg of the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:15.38), the second leg of the 400-yard medley relay (3:43.77), and the third leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:29.70).
MM• Kevin Alland (Case): The sophomore won the 500-yard (4:53.08) and 1,000-yard (10:03.74) freestyles to help lead the Spartans to a 129-94 victory at Ohio Northern University. MM• Cary Burke (Emory): The senior contributed 24 points to help the fourth-ranked Eagles (6-1) to a 119-86 victory over Wingate University, the 13th ranked team in NCAA Division II. Burke captured the 50-yard freestyle (:21.76) and swam legs on the victorious 400-yard medley relay and the runner-up 400-yard freestyle relay. MM• Paul Hogan (NYU): The junior captured the 500-yard (4:51.45) and the 1,000-yard (9:57.12) freestyles to help lead the unbeaten Violets (7-0) to a 139-104 win over Springfield College. MM• James Liu (Brandeis): The sophomore won the 100-yard backstroke (:57.78), the 100-yard butterfly (:54.37), and the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.59) in the Judges' 136-108 dual win over Wheaton College (MA). Liu also turned in a :48.50 anchor split on the second-place 400-medley relay . MM• Michael Panzitta (Carnegie Mellon): The freshman led a 1-2-3 sweep of the 100-yard backstroke, winning the event with a time of :55.31, and finished fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:04.68) to help the Tartans (6-1) post a 191-91 dual meet win over Allegheny College. UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Kevin Leckey (Washington): The junior won a total of five races for the Bears during back-to-back dual meets over the weekend. Leckey won the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.65) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:58.35) in a 136-106 win over Lindenwood University. The following day, he swept the freestyle sprints during a 172-126 triumph at Wabash College, capturing the 50-yard (:21.71), 100-yard (47.89), and 200-yard (1:45.58) events.
MM• Robby Browning (Case): The sophomore anchored the Spartans’ victorious 200-yard medley relay (1:38.40) and captured the 100-yard butterfly (53.04 seconds) during a 137-68 dual loss to Association rival Carnegie Mellon University. MM• Jonathan Dennison (Rochester): The senior registered top-three finishes in three events and a pair of relays as part of a 2-0 dual meet weekend for the Yellowjackets. In a one-point triumph (149.5-148.5) at the State University of New York at Cortland, Dennison won the 100-yard freestyle (50.83 seconds) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.73), finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (23.17 seconds), and swam on the runner-up 400-yard freestyle relay (3:22.80) that secured the dual meet win. In a 132-71 win over Nazareth College, he swam on the victorious 400-yard medley relay (3:48.07). MM• David Mitsche (Rochester): The junior turned in top-three finishes on both the one-meter and three-meter springboards during a 2-0 dual-meet weekend for the Yellowjackets. Mitsche finished third on both boards (171.90 points on the one-meter, 184.58 on the three-meter) in a 149.50-148.50 triumph at the State University of New York at Cortland. The following day, he captured both events (168 points at one meter, 166.55 points at three meters) in a 132-71 win over Nazareth College. MM• Tom McConnell (Carnegie Mellon): The junior captured the 500-yard (4:48.58) and 1,000-yard (9:57.39) freestyle events in helping the Tartans to a 137-67 dual victory over host and UAA foe Case Western Reserve University. MM• Kevin Yamada (Emory): The sophomore earned first-place finishes in the 100-yard (1:00.36) and 200-yard (2:12.00) breaststrokes, and swam a leg on the runner-up 200-yard medley relay (1:37.63) in the Eagles’ 148-114 loss to NCAA Division II University of Tampa. UAA Athlete of the Week MM• James Liu (Brandeis): The sophomore won three individual events for the Judges in a 165-124 loss to Tufts University. Liu won the 50-yard (:24.95) and 200-yard (2:01.24) butterfly, and captured the 100-yard freestyle (:48.81). Liu also swam the leadoff leg on the third-place 400-yard medley relay, swimming a :56.90 backstroke split. UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Keith Diggs (Emory): The junior registered four individual NCAA Division III qualifying times at the Miami University (OH) Invitational. Diggs finished third in the 1,650-yard freestyle with an automatic qualifying time of 15:39.87, and followed with a school-record and automatic qualifying time in the 400-yard individual medley, finishing third with a time of 3:57.96. Diggs completed the meet with two additional provisional qualifying times, finishing fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:33.82), and 12th in the 200-yard individual medley (1:54.65), helping the third-ranked Eagles to a third-place finish in the 13-team meet.
MM• Paul Hogan (NYU): The junior registered top five finishes in three events at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championships, helping the Violets to a runner-up finish. Hogan established an ECAC meet record in winning the 500-yard freestyle (4:39.73), posted an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time with a runner-up finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:15.82) and placed fifth in the 400-yard individual medley (4:19.24). MM• Kevin Howard (Rochester): The freshman finished second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.15) and third in the 100-yard backstroke (:55.58) at the Liberty League Championships in Schenectady, NY, helping the Yellowjackets to the team title out of nine teams. MM• Jason Huber (Carnegie Mellon): The sophomore broke a school record and posted a pair of NCAA Division III qualifying marks during the Tartans' fourth place showing at the Kenyon College/Nike Cup. Huber finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (:57.49) after recording a school record and provisional qualifying time of :57.34 in the preliminary heats earlier in the day. He posted another provisional qualifying mark with a fifth-place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:06.39) and swam legs on the Tartans 200-yard (eighth place - 1:35.71) and 400-yard (sixth place - 3:29.38) medley relays. MM• Drew Kouri, Chris Marquiss, Drew Swartz, John Somerville (Case): The quartet of Kouri (senior), Marquiss (freshman), Swartz (sophomore), and Somerville (junior) accounted for the majority of the team scoring for the Spartans en route to a third-place showing at the College of Wooster Invitational. The foursome teamed up for a runner-up finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:35.67, finishing behind host Wooster by .05 seconds. Kouri and Somerville swam on Case's runner-up 400-yard medley relay (3:32.81), while Marquiss and Kouri were members of the runner-up 200-yard freestyle relay (1:26.88). Individually, Kouri captured the 100-yard breaststroke (:59.05), while sommerville won the 400-yard individual medley (4:17.68), and Swartz gained a victory in the 100-yard backstroke (:53.36). MM• Kevin Leckey (Washington): The junior swept the freestyle sprints during the Wheaton College (IL) Invitional, helping the Bears secure a runner-up finish in the seven-team field. Leckey placed first in the 50-yard freestyle (20.97), the 100-yard freestyle (45.86) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.71), all three times surpassing the NCAA Division III provisional qualifying standard. Leckey was also a member of the Bears’ victorious 800-yard freestyle relay team, which surpassed the NCAA automatic qualifying standard with a time of 6:48.06. MM• James Liu (Brandeis): The sophomore was the top competitor for the Judges at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Invitational with top-three finishes in three individual events and two relays. Liu placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (:53.48) and finished third in both the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.13) and 100-yard freestyle (:48.12). Liu swam the leadoff legs on the third-place 200-yard (1:29.57) and 800-yard freestyle (7:25.24) relays, posting splits of 22.16 seconds and 1:48.95, respectively. MM• Bobby McCue (Rochester): The freshman posted top five finishes in three individual events, leading a balanced effort by the Yellowjackets in capturing the team title at the Liberty League Championships in Schenectady, NY. McCue registered runner-up finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.28) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.63), and placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.84). UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Matt Kuhn (Carnegie Mellon): The sophomore won both the one-meter and three-meter boards Saturday at the Carnegie Mellon Quadrangular Duals. Kuhn scored 238.95 points in the one-meter springboard and 257.85 in the three-meter. MM• Randall Scarborough (Emory): The Junior recorded two career-best times, while helping the Eagles to a 127-97 win over Darton College. Scarborough finished first in the 100-yard butterfly, recording a personal-best time of 52.87, just 1.54 seconds shy of an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time. Scarborough registered his second career-best time of the day in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing second in a time of 10:14.37.
MM• Paul Hogan (NYU): The junior won the 500-yard (4:52.61) and the 1,000-yard (10:07.99) freestyles as the Violets remained unbeaten in their dual schedule (6-0) with a 120-73 victory over Swarthmore College. MM• James Liu (Brandeis): The sophomore won two individual events as the Judges posted a 127-99 dual meet win over NCAA Division II Bentley College. He led the Judges to 1-2-3 sweeps in the 100-yard (:48.88) and 200-yard (1:49.35) freestyles, and swam the anchor leg on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay (3:24.03). MM• Sam Taft (Emory): The senior swept both the one-meter and three-meter springboard diving events during the Eagles’ 127-97 win over Darton College. Taft finished ahead of four other divers in the one-meter dive, as his score of 216.38 points was 50 points higher than the next-closest competitor. The senior also claimed first in the three-meter dive, recording a score of 211.43 points. UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Keith Diggs (Emory): The junior recorded two NCAA Division III provisional qualifying times at the Emory University Fall Invitational. Diggs finished second in the 400-yard individual medley with a provisional qualifying mark of 4:05.03 and finished second in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a provisional qualifying time of 16:15.19. In addition to his qualifying times, Diggs finished third in the 200-yard individual medley, sixth in the 100-yard freestyle, and swam legs on the victorious 400-yard medley relay and second place 400-yard freestyle relay. MM• Max Norris (NYU): The freshman continued his impressive collegiate season by winning both the one-meter and three-meter diving events as the Violets produced a 168-130 victory over the United States Coast Guard Academy and a 217-61 win over Wheaton College (MA) to improve to 5-0 on the season. Norris tallied 260.32 points on the one-meter springboard and scored 217.20 points in capturing the three-meter event.
MM• Kevin Alland (Case): The junior won four events during the two-day Case Western Reserve Universiy Vale Classic. Alland won the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.05) and 100-yard butterfly (:54.11) in the dual victory over Oberlin College. The following day against the College of Wooster, he was victorious in the 400-yard individual medley (4:18.94) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:54.82) in a loss to the Fighting Scots. MM• David Chao (Washington): The freshman was victorious in the 200-yard freestyle and anchored four winning relay teams at the University of Chicago Maroon Invitational, helping the Bears to the team title at the nine-team meet. Chao won the individual event in a time of 1:45.23, while swimming the anchor leg on the victorious 200-yard freestyle (1:28.26), 400-yard freestyle (3:10.90), 800-yard freestyle (7:11.53) and 400-yard medley (3:35.72) relays. Chao also produced runner-up finishes in the 100-yard (:48.31) and 50-yard (:22.06) freestyles. MM• Andrew Lardiere (NYU): The junior captured two individual events while contributing to a relay victory in helping the Violets to a 168-130 victory over the United States Coast Guard Academy and a 217-61 win over Wheaton College (MA). Lardiere won the 50-yard (:21.83) and 100-yard (:47.52) freestyles and swam a leg on the victorious 200-yard medley relay (1:37.4) to help keep NYU undefeated in dual competition with a 5-0 record. MM• Bobby McCue (Rochester): The freshman won the lone individual event for the Yellowjackets in a dual meet loss to Union College, capturing the 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.51), and swam a leg on the winning 400-yard medley relay (3:43.05). The following day, he won the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.39), finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (:50.05) and swam on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:32.93) in leading Rochester to the dual victory over St. Lawrence University. UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Max Norris (NYU): The freshman diver turned in solid performances in the one-meter and three-meter springboards to help the Violets score a 139-99 victory over Rowan University. Norris finished second in the three-meter dive with 226.80 points and placed third in the one-meter event with 247.80 points. MM• Eric Wang (NYU): The junior won the 200-yard individual medley (2:00.32) and the 200-yard butterfly (1:57.53), , then swam a leg on the victorious 400-yard medley relay (3:35.89) to help the Violets to a 139-99 victory over Rowan University to remain unbeaten on the season with a 3-0 record.
MM• Mark Bernstein (Emory): The freshman won the 200-yard butterfly (1:57.97) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:51.53) to help the Eagles to a 114-83 triumph over Savannah College of Art & Design. UAA Athlete of the Week MM• Perry Bullock (Washington): The junior recorded an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time in the Bears’ 161-139 dual meet win over DePauw University in one of two individual victories for the junior. Bullock won the 200-yard butterfly with a qualifying time of 1:54.38 and was victorious in the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.55). He also swam a leg on the first-place 200-yard medley relay (1:39.29). MM• Max Norris (NYU): The freshman diver captured both the one-meter and three-meter diving events during a three-team UAA triangular dual meet with Case Western Reserve University and host University of Rochester. Norris totaled 242.35 points in the one-meter springboard, then followed with 248 points in winning the three-meter board as the Violets defeated both Case and Rochester.
MM• Kevin Howard (Rochester): The freshman won the 200-yard backstroke (1:58.51) as the Yellowjackets hosted a UAA triangular meet with Case Western Reserve University and New York University. MM• James Liu (Brandeis): The sophomore won the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.30) and placed second in the 50-yard (:22.32) and 100-yard (:48.21) freestyles as the Judges fell to Keene State College, 170-128. MM• Eric Wang (NYU): The junior won the 100-yard (:53.20) and the 200-yard (1:59.57) butterflys and added the 200-yard individual medley (2:00.56) to lead the Violets to victories over Case Western Reserve University and host University of Rochester during a UAA triangular meet.
