UAA Volleyball — News and Notes
2007 Season Highlights

EMORY WINS UAA CHAMPIONSHIP — Emory University captured its second UAA Volleyball title in three years edging defending champion Washington University 30-24, 24-30, 30-23, 28-30, 15-10 in the championship match. The match was a near repeat of the five-game round robin match won by Washington earlier in the season, but a timely offensive surge by the Eagles in the deciding game secured the victory and championship title. With the title, Emory also received an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Championship.

This was the first year of a new championship format for the Association in which an opening round of pool play was followed by crossover matches based on pool play finish to determine the final order of finish. Previously, the top two teams from each pool entered a single-elimination playoff.

Post-Season Results

WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY WINS NCAA DIVISION III NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP — Ranked fourth in the final Division III regular-season poll, Washington University captured a record ninth NCAA Division III national championship with a 3-2 victory over No. 5 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in Bloomington, Illinois. Junior Alli Alberts was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Teammates Audra Janak and Haleigh Spencer joined Alberts on the All-Tournament Team. To reach the championship game, the Bears defeated Wittenberg University, 3-1, in the semifinals and UAA foe Emory University, 3-1, in the quarterfinals. Washington and Emory split victories earlier in the season with the Bears prevailing in a regular-season UAA match, and the Eagles holding forth in the UAA championship final, both hard-fought, five-game matches.

BRANDEIS UNIVERSITY WINS ECAC-NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIP — Brandeis University defeated Keene State College and Colby-Sawyer College to win its second consecutive Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference New England Region championship. Junior outside hitter Lorraine Wingenbach was named MVP of the tournament.
