UAA Athlete of the Week

MMMelissa Alwardt (Rochester): The freshman tallied a game-high 18 points and pulled down five rebounds (four on defense) in 26 minutes off the bench as the Yellowjackets dropped a 73-61 decision to host Messiah College in the third round of the 2008 NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship.  Alwardt hit five of 10 field goals (three of seven from 3-point range) and made five of six free throws to finish as the Yellowjackets’ top scorer in three NCAA tournament games with an 18.3 points-per-game average.

MMMolly Hackney (Chicago): The sophomore forward scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a losing effort as the Maroons dropped a 70-56 decision to host Kean University in the third round of the 2008 NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship.  Hackney hit six of 15 shots from the floor and made seven of 10 free throws. She also blocked four shots and collected a pair of steals.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMMelissa Alwardt (Rochester): The freshman scored 37 points in 39 minutes off the bench to help the Yellowjackets to first and second round victories in the NCAA Division III Championship, advancing to the "Sweet 16” for the third consecutive year. In a 71-66 victory over Eastern Connecticut State University, Alwardt scored 14 points in 17 minutes, hitting five of nine shots from the floor (including a 3-pointer) and making all three free-throw attempts. She also added two assists, a rebound, and a steal. The next day, Alwardt scored a career-high 23 points in 22 minutes of a 69-50 triumph over Medaille College, sinking seven of 10 field goals (three of six from 3-point range), and hitting six of eight free throws. She also pulled down four rebounds, dished out a pair of assists, and registered a steal.

MMJanice Evans (Washington): The sophomore forward helped the Bears reach the second round of the 2008 NCAA Division III Championship, averaging 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in two games. Evans notched her third “double-double” of the year in a 73-72 opening round win over Wilmington College (OH), scoring a career-high 22 points to go with 10 rebounds, and tying her career high in steals with five. She followed with 19 points and nine rebounds in a 73-66 loss to defending national champion DePauw University.


Honor Roll

MMJaime Capra (Brandeis): The senior guard led the Judges to the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship for the third consecutive year. Capra rallied the Judges from a 14-point deficit with under seven minutes to play in  a 74-71 first round win over the University of Southern Maine with 25 points, 19 coming in the second half. She also added four assists, three rebounds and two steals. The following day, Capra added 19 points and five rebounds in a 95-61 second-round loss to host Kean University. A Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-America finalist for the second year in a row, Capra finishes her career as the second-leading scorer in Brandeis history with 1,393 points, seventh in rebounding (558) and ninth in assists (213).

MMMolly Hackney (Chicago): The sophomore forward averaged 10 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.5 blocked shots as the Maroons won a pair of games to move on to sectional play of the 2008 NCAA Division III Championship.  After contributing six points and five rebounds in 15 minutes in a 62-59 win over the University of St. Thomas (MN) in the opening round, Hackney collected 14 points, eight boards, and five blocks in a 65-52 win over St. Norbert College in the second round.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMAshley Horton (Case): The senior forward completed her collegiate career with her 12th “double-double” of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds, and scored her 1,000th career point with 4.8 seconds remaining in the game in a 71-66 triumph over Emory University in the UAA season finale for both teams.  Horton connected on nine of 22 field goals and hit six of eight shots from the free-throw line, including a pair in the final seconds to seal the win.

MMNofi Mojidi (Chicago): The senior guard scored a game-high 25 points on 11 of 15 shooting from the field to lead the 21st-ranked Maroons to a 76-53 win over 23rd-ranked Washington University, capturing their first outright UAA title (second overall) and the automatic berth to the NCAA Division III championship.  Mojidi tallied 10 points during an eight-minute stretch in the second half as Chicago expanded its lead to 65-45 with 4:40 to play.


Honor Roll

MMJessica Chapin (Brandeis): The sophomore guard scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed six rebounds with two assists and two steals in a 63-60 win over New York University in the regular-season finale for both teams. Chapin tallied 16 points, five rebounds, two steals, and an assist in the first half (half the team's total) as the Judges opened up a 30-23 lead. For the game, Chapin hit eight of 12 from the floor with a pair of three pointers, and made both free throws.

MMJessica McEntee (NYU): The junior forward set or tied several UAA and school records in the Violets' 63-60 loss at Brandeis University in their regular-season finale.  McEntee recorded 19 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists for her 17th "double-double" of the season.  McEntee's offensive output tied her with Emory University's Mandy Jackson for most points (301) and highest scoring average (21.5 ppg) in UAA play.  In addition, she established a Violet single-season record by averaging 20.8 points per game, and moved into eighth place all-time with 1,210 points.

MMLora Turner (Emory): The junior recorded a team-high 18 points and chipped in three steals during the Eagles' 71-66 loss to Case Western Reserve University.  Turner sank seven of 12 shots from the floor and four of six from the foul line in registering her 21st double-figure scoring effort of the year.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMJanice Evans (Washington): The sophomore forward averaged 16.5 points (14 of 24 field goal shooting), 10 rebounds, 3.5 steals, and two assists in leading the Bears to a pair of Association weekend victories.  Evans recorded a “double-double” in a 74-56 win over Brandeis University, tallying 14 points and pulling down a career-high 13 rebounds to go with a career-high five steals. She followed two days later with a career-best 19 points in a 71-55 win over New York University.

MMCaitlin Henry (Case): The freshman guard averaged 17 points, 3.5 rebounds, and three assists in a 1-1 road weekend for the Spartans.  Henry tallied a career-high 21 points (7-for-12 shooting from the floor), three rebounds, and two assists in a 92-71 night loss to the University of Rochester.  Two days later, she scored 13 points, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out four assists in a 63-49 victory over Carnegie Mellon University.  For the weekend, Henry hit five of 10 three pointers and shot 11-for-19 from the field.


Honor Roll

MMAlex Leach (Chicago): The junior guard averaged 16 points as the Maroons moved into a first place tie in the UAA standings with a pair of weekend victories.  Leach scored a game-high 19 points in an 84-64 win over New York University before tallying 13 points in a 62-55 win over Brandeis University, making seven of 10 free throws, including a pair of critical free throws with 30 seconds remaining.  For both games, Leach shot 53 percent (nine of 17) from the field and 50 percent (four of eight) from three-point distance.

MMJessica McEntee (NYU): The junior forward averaged 14.5 points, nine rebounds, and 2.5 assists in a pair of Association road games.  After contributing game highs of 14 points and eight rebounds in a 84-64 loss at 23rd-ranked University of Chicago, McEntee tallied her 16th "double-double" of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds in a 71-55 setback at 24th-ranked Washington University, moving into a tie for ninth place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,191 points.

MMErica Kaplan (Emory): The junior averaged 10.5 points, three rebounds, and three assists in helping the Eagles to a pair of road wins, boosting the squad’s mark to 7-2 over the last nine games. After compiling only five points, four rebounds, and a pair of steals in a 69-46 win over Carnegie Mellon University, Kaplan scored 12 of her game-high 16 points in the second half to help rally the Eagles from a 29-22 halftime deficit en route to a 59-56 triumph over 17th-ranked University of Rochester. She shot 5-for-11 from the field, making a pair of three pointers, and converted all four of her free throw opportunities for her 12th double-figure scoring performance of the season.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMJaime Capra (Brandeis): The senior guard led the Judges to wins over 13th-ranked University of Rochester  (71-64) and Carnegie Mellon University (69-60), averaging 17 points, 5.5 rebounds, two assists, and 1.5 steals while shooting 47.8 percent (11 of 23) from the field and 76.9 percent (10 of 13) from the free-throw line.  Capra tied for game-high honors with 19 points, moving into third place on the Judges’ all-time scoring list, grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, and contributed two assists and two steals in the win over Rochester.  Against Carnegie Mellon, she tallied 15 points, two rebounds, two assists (moving her into the career top-ten with 204), and a steal.

MMLora Turner (Emory): The junior averaged 18 points and 4.5 rebounds in contributing to a 1-1 weekend for the Eagles.  After compiling 13 points and a pair of blocked shots in a 68-52 loss to the University of Chicago, Turner tallied a game-high 23 points in a 68-66 triumph over 23rd-ranked Washington University, connecting on eight of 14 shots from the floor and six of 10 free throws, to go along with a team-high tying seven rebounds.  Turner, who moved into 11th place on the school’s all-time scoring list (850 points), shot 56.5 percent (13 of 23) from the floor for both games.

MMStacie Aleski (Carnegie Mellon): The junior averaged 17.5 points, 3.5 assists, and two steals while shooting 50 percent form the field and 47 percent (eight of 17) from behind the arc in a two-game weekend for the Tartans. After scoring 16 points on six of 10 shooting from the floor with four 3-pointers in a 59-49 setback at New York University.  Aleski followed with a season-highs of 19 points (four of 10 three-pointers) and four assists to go along with a team-leading three steals in a 69-60 loss at Brandeis University.

MMJanice Evans (Washington): The sophomore forward averaged 15 points and 7.5 rebounds during a 1-1 weekend for the Bears. Evans posted her first career "double-double" in a 74-65 win over Case Western Reserve University, scoring a game-high 16 points on 7-for-12 field goal shooting and pulling down 11 rebounds. In a 68-66 loss at Emory University, Evans was the team's top scorer with 14 points on five of seven shooting from the floor.

MMMolly Hackney (Chicago): The sophomore forward averaged 15 points, 8.5 rebounds, and four blocks as the Maroons completed a weekend sweep of Association opponents on the road.  Hackney hit nine of 13 shots from the floor and finished with 18 points and nine rebounds in a 68-52 win over Emory University.  She then collected 12 points and eight boards in a 59-54 win over Case Western Reserve University.  Hackney blocked four shots in each game.

MMAshley Horton (Case): The senior forward averaged 14 points, 15 rebounds, and two assists during the Spartans' Third Annual Throwback Weekend. Horton scored 14 points (5-for-14 field goal shooting), grabbed 16 rebounds, dished out two assists, and made three steals in a 74-65 loss to Washington University, then registered her 10th "double-double" of the season and 34th of her career with 14 points (seven of 14 shooting from the floor) and 14 rebounds fin a 59-54 loss to the University of Chicago.

MMJessica McEntee (NYU): The junior forward averaged 21.5 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 82.1 percent (23-for-28) from the free-throw line in the Violets’ 1-1 week.  McEntee played all 40 minutes and finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds, as NYU overcame a 20-point deficit in the second half to defeat Carnegie Mellon University, 59-49.  Two days later, she tallied a game-high 30 points and added 13 rebounds for her 15th  “double-double” of the season in a 73-65 loss to the University of Rochester, moving into 10th place in all-time scoring at NYU with 1,149 points.

MMJessica Waddell (Rochester): The senior registered two solid games off the bench for the Yellowjackets in a 1-1 weekend. Waddell scored 12 points and added three assists in a 71-64 loss at Brandeis University before compiling 14 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals in a 73-65 win at New York University.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMJessica McEntee (NYU): The junior forward averaged 24 points, 11 rebounds, and 2.5 steals in a pair of UAA contests for the Violets.  After finishing with 21 points, nine rebounds, and four steals in a 73-63 loss to Case Western Reserve University, McEntee posted game highs of 27 points and 13 rebounds in a 64-61 setback to Emory University two days later. For the weekend, she shot 50 percent (six of 12) from three-point range and 76.9 percent (10 of 13) from the free-throw line.


Honor Roll

MMJaime Capra (Brandeis): The senior guard averaged 18 points, eight rebounds and four asssists in a 1-1 week for the Judges. Capra led all players with 16 points and seven rebounds in a 75-63 loss to Emory University, then tallied game-highs of 20 points, nine rebounds, and six assists in a 72-63 win over Case Western Reserve University.

MMJanice Evans (Washington): The sophomore was instrumental for the Bears in a 2-0 weekend homestand, averaging 11 points and 6.5 rebounds. Evans scored 10 points on 5-for-5 shooting from the floor, and pulled down seven rebounds in a 64-37 victory over Carnegie Mellon University, then tallied 12 points, six rebounds, and three steals in a 63-61 overtime triumph over seventh-ranked University of Rochester, moving into a two-way tie for first place with the Yellowjackets in the Association standings. For the weekend, Evans shot 41.7 percent (10 of 24) from the field.

MMAlex Leach (Chicago): The junior guard scored 11 of her game-high 15 points in the second half in leading the Maroons to a 56-46 win over seventh-ranked University of Rochester.  Leach, who accounted for nine of the Maroons final 17 points, gave Chicago the lead for good with a three-point basket at the 4:34 mark.  Two days later, she contributed six points in 14 minutes of play in a 67-38 win over Carnegie Mellon University.

MMLeShonda Lillard (Emory): The sophomore averaged 14.5 points, 3.5 assists, and 3.5 steals in helping the Eagles to a pair of UAA road wins.  Lillard totaled 13 points on five of 10 field-goal shooting (2-for-3 from three-point range) and added four steals and four assists in a 75-63 win over Brandeis University. She followed it up two days later with a 16-point performance in a 64-61 triumph over New York University, knocking down seven of 13 shots from the floor with a three pointer, and contributing three steals and three assists.  In the two games, Lillard shot 52.2 percent (12 of 23) from the floor.

MMAshleigh Tondo (Case): The sophomore guard averaged 19.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists in leading the Spartans to a 1-1 week. Tondo scored 19 points (six of 12 field goals), grabbed seven rebounds, and handed out nine assists in a 73-63 victory over New York University (the second triumph over the Violets in a week and third in 21 seasons).  In a 72-63 loss to Brandeis University, Tondo tallied 20 points (seven of 16 FG shooting), pulled in six rebounds, and made four steals.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMJaime Capra (Brandeis): The senior guard averaged 22 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in a 2-0 week for the Judges.  In a 67-65 overtime win over Case Western Reserve University, Capra totaled 19 points on six of 14 shooting from the floor (three of five from 3-point range) and made four of six free throws.  She also added six rebounds and three assists.  Two days later, she registered game highs of 25 points, nine rebounds, and six assists (tying a career-high) in a 70-66 win over Emory University.  Capra sunk six of 19 from the field but made 12 of 13 shots from the line, including four in a row with just under two minutes left, that turned a 64-61 deficit into a 65-64 lead.

MMKate Corkle (Emory): The junior averaged 10.5 points, five rebounds, and 1.5 assists in helping Emory to a split of a pair of UAA games. Corkle totaled eight points, three rebounds and one steal in an 80-60 triumph over 21st-ranked New York University, then followed with career highs in both points (13) and rebounds (seven) in a 70-66 setback to Brandeis University.

MMAlex Leach (Chicago): The junior guard averaged ten points as the Maroons split a pair of UAA games.  She scored 12 points in an 84-53 win over Carnegie Mellon University, before collecting eight points in a 54-48 loss to eighth-ranked University of Rochester.

MMJessica McEntee (NYU): The junior forward averaged 25 points, nine rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and two steals as the Violets dropped a pair of UAA road games.  McEntee finished with 25 points, seven rebounds, and a career-best four blocked shots in an 80-60 setback at Emory University, then tallied team bests of 25 points and 11 rebounds while going 12-for-14 at the free-throw line in a 70-58 defeat at Case Western Reserve University. For the weekend, she shot 51.5 percent (17-for-33) from the field and 87.5 percent (14-for-16) from the line.

MMAlex Porter (Rochester): The junior put together a pair of balanced performances in a 2-0 week for the Yellowjackets. Porter scored a career-high 25 points on 8-for-14 shooting from the floor, pulled down 10 rebounds, and made three steals in an 58-55 overtime victory over defending UAA champion Washington University. She scored six of Rochester's 10 points in the overtime period. She tallied nine points, 10 rebounds, and four steals in a 54-48 triumph over the University of Chicago.

MMAshleigh Tondo (Case): The sophomore guard averaged 15 points (11 of 29 field-goal shooting), 10 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and two steals in a 1-1 home weekend for the Spartans. Tondo scored 12 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out five assists in a 67-65 overtime loss to Brandeis University, then tallied 18 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, and three steals in the Spartans' 70-58 victory over New York University, their first over the Violets since the 2002 season.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMJaime Capra (Brandeis): The senior guard averaged 18.5 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists as the Judges posted a pair of Association home victories.  Capra scored 12 of her game-high 23 points in the second half, pulled down five rebounds, and added a blocked shot and a steal in a 60-56 win over the University of Chicago.  Two days later, she recorded a “double-double” with a game-high tying 14 points  (12 in the second half) and a career-high 15 rebounds in a 66-48 triumph over Washington University, the first win over the Bears at home since 1997 and the third in the program’s history.

MMJessica McEntee (NYU): The junior forward averaged 22 points and 13 rebounds while shooting 76.9 percent (20-for-26) from the free-throw line in a pair of UAA weekend contests for the Violets.  She posted game and team highs of 19 points and 12 rebounds in a 66-60 loss to Washington University. Two days later, she became the 13th player in the program’s history to reach 1,000 points during a 72-68 setback to the University of Chicago, finishing with game and team bests of 25 points (13-for-16 from the line) and 14 rebounds.

Against Case Western Reserve University, she scored a team-leading 16 points (5-for-5 from the line) in a 75-70 victory.

MMJill Brandt (Washington): The junior averaged 15 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 steals during a two-game UAA road weekend for the Bears. Brandt tied her career-high with 19 points in a 66-60 victory at eighth-ranked New York University on six of 11 shooting from the floor (including a pair of three-pointers), five of six shooting from the free-throw line, and a pair of steals. She tallied 11 points two days later in a 66-48 loss at Brandeis University.

MMLeShonda Lillard (Emory): The sophomore averaged 13 points, 2.5 assists, and 4.5 steals in helping the Eagles to a split of a pair of UAA contests.  Lillard scored a season-high tying 18 points while chalking up a pair of assists along with a season-high tying five steals in a 57-54 defeat to the University of Rochester. Two days later, she tallied eight points, three blocked shots, and four steals in helping the Eagles to their first Association win of the season, a 75-54 triumph over Carnegie Mellon University. For the weekend, Lillard shot 47.8 percent from the floor (11 of 23) while her steals total boosted her team-leading average to 2.4 per game.

MMNofi Mojidi (Chicago): The senior guard averaged 14 points, five rebounds, and two steals as the Maroons split a pair of Association games on the road.  Mojidi scored 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds in a 60-54 loss to Brandeis University before tallying 14 points with four steals in a 72-68 victory over eighth-ranked New York University.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMMolly Hackney (Chicago): The sophomore forward averaged 18 points, 8.5 rebounds, two assists, and 1.5 blocks as the Maroons swept a pair of Association opponents at home.  Hackney collected 17 points and eight boards in a 67-59 win over Case Western Reserve University, before finishing with 19 points and nine rebounds in a 54-52 win over Emory University.  Hackney scored a pair of key baskets in the final 3:14 in the Maroons’ come-from-behind victory over Case.

MMJessica McEntee (NYU): The junior forward averaged 19 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 2.3 steals, while shooting 47.6 percent (20 of 42) from the floor and 88.9 percent (16 of 18) from the free-throw line in leading the nationally-ranked Violets to a 2-1 week.  After opening the week with 17 points, eight rebounds, and a career-high four steals in a 54-36 win at Hunter College, McEntee posted back-to-back “double-double” performances in a pair of Association contests on the road.  She tallied 19 points and 13 rebounds in a 62-55 loss to the University of Rochester before compiling 21 points and 10 boards in a 50-38 triumph over Carnegie Mellon University. MMLeShonda Lillard (Emory): The sophomore was the lone player to score in double figures for the Eagles in a pair of UAA road games, averaging 14.5 points and 4.5 assists.  Lillard paced the squad in scoring with a season-high 18 points (seven of 14 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers) while doling out five assists in a 76-63 loss to Washington University. She followed that performance with 11 points and four assists in a 54-52 loss to the University of Chicago.

MMAlex Porter (Rochester): The junior put together back-to-back 14-point performances, while averaging 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals in a 2-0 week for the Yellowjackets. Ward registered 14 points, hitting a pair of three pointers while going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, and dished out four assists in a 76-63 win over Emory University, then followed with 18 points (10-for-10 shooting from the line) and two assists in a 79-57 victory over Case Western Reserve University.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMJessica McEntee (NYU): The junior forward averaged 24 points and 11.5 rebounds, while shooting 57.1 percent (16-for-28) from the field and 57.1 percent (4-for-7) from three-point range, as the Violets remained undefeated (11-0) on the season with a pair of victories.  She opened the week with a 20-point, eight-rebound effort in a 64-48 victory over New Jersey City University, and followed with 28 points (9-for-19 field goals with a career-high three 3-pointers, seven of nine from the free throw line), 15 rebounds, and three assists in playing all 40 minutes of a 57-47 UAA-opening victory over Brandeis University, helping the Violets overcome a 10-point, second-half deficit.


Honor Roll

MMJaime Capra (Brandeis): The senior guard averaged 16 points and five rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Judges.  She also shot 43.5 percent (10 of 23) from the field, 60 percent (three of five) from 3-point range, and 90 percent (nine of 10) from the line.  In a 77-32 win over Husson College, Capra scored 16 points to lead all scorers, hitting six of 10 from the field with two 3-pointers, and making both free throws.  She scored 16 points and grabbed a season-high eight rebounds in a 57-47 loss at New York University.

MMJulie Marriott (Rochester): The junior was chosen as the Most Valuable Player of the JPMorgan Chase Scholarship Tournament, averaging 12.7 points. and 7.7 rebounds in three tournament games for the Yellowjackets, who defeated the State University of New York at Geneseo (63-37), Roberts Wesleyan College (88-53), and Nazareth College (83-46).   Marriott totaled 13 points and nine rebounds against Geneseo, five points, seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals against Roberts Wesleyan, then matched her season high with 20 points to go with seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block against Nazareth in the title game.

MMWhitney Martin (Emory): The sophomore came off the bench and posted a career-high tying 14 points (second high on the team), six rebounds, and a steal in a 76-72 loss to Case Western Reserve University.  Martin hit four of seven field goal attempts and made six of seven free throws en route to her second double-figure scoring game of the season and fourth of her career.

MMAshleigh Tondo (Case): The sophomore point guard scored 28 points on nine of 16 shooting from the field (five of 10 from three-point range), grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out five assists, all with a mild-concussion, en route to leading the Spartans to a 76-72 UAA season-opening victory over Emory University. After drilling her fifth three-pointer of the game, she followed it up with a free-throw with 30.3 seconds remaining in the contest give the Spartans a 74-70 lead and secure the win.

MMHalsey Ward (Washington): The junior had a career day in the Bears’ 67-56 victory over visiting University of Chicago, scoring a career-high 26 points and pulling down a career-best nine rebounds. Ward connected on nine of 14 shots from the field, and a career-best four of six from three-point range, the best effort by any Bear player this season.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMAshleigh Tondo (Case): The sophomore point guard averaged 20 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals in helping the Spartans to a 2-1 week.  Tondo averaged 13.5 points, seven assists, five rebounds, and three steals in two games of the Surf City Classic in Irvine, CA, tallying 19 points (6-for-16 field goals with three 3-pointers), eight rebounds, six assists, and four steals in a 62-59 loss to Concordia University of Wisconsin then following with eight points and a game-high eight assists in a 74-67 overtime triumph over Widener University. She finished the week with a career-high 35 points on 14 of 23 field goal shooting (3-for-4 from three-point range) in an 85-65 win over Kalamazoo College.


Honor Roll

MMStacie Aleski (Carnegie Mellon): The junior averaged 13.8 points, shot 55 percent form the filed and 60 percent from three-point range during the Tartans' five game stretch over the winter break.  Aleski tallied back-to-back double digit scoring games during the Caribbean Hoops Showdown in Cancun, Mexico, scoring 15 points in a 60-56 setback to the University of LaVerne and 16 in a 65-56 loss to Concordia University-Austin (TX).  While in Cancun she shot 70 percent (nine of 13) from behind the arc and 65 percent (11 of 17) from the field.  In the Tartans lone win, a 78-74 victory at Wittenberg University, she led the Tartans with 18 points, making all eight free throw attempts (four coming in the final minute). including an 8-of-8 performance from the line, 4-of-4 in the final minute.  Aleski finished the stretch with 13 points in a 65-54 loss to the University of Rochester in the Association opener for both teams.

MMJill DiNucci (Chicago): The sophomore forward contributed 11 points, five rebounds, and two steals in 20 minutes off the bench as the Maroons defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering, 93-45.  DiNucci was perfect on five field goal attempts, including a three-point basket.

MMJanice Evans (Washington): The sophomore forward scored a career-high 17 points on eight of 14 shooting in only 19 minutes to help the Bears to a 73-33 win over Webster University. She also pulled down three rebounds, made three steals and dished out a pair of assists.

MMJulie Marriott (Rochester): The junior averaged 15 points and 7.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Yellowjackets that included a 65-54 victory over Carnegie Mellon University in the UAA opener for both teams. Marriott talalied 12 points, seven rebounds, and a blocked shot in a 54-34 win at Clarkson University, then compiled 18 points, eight reboundds, three assists, and a steal in the win over Carnegie Mellon, shooting 5-for-8 from the field and making eight of 12 free throws. For both games, she shot a collective 69.2 percent (nine of 13) from the floor and 75 percent (12 of 16) from the foul line (12-16). She also grabbed 15 rebounds (eight offensive).

MMJessica McEntee (NYU): The junior forward averaged 20.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists, and set a school record for career free throws made (367) as the Violets went 2-0 over the holiday break.  McEntee recorded 19 points, 16 rebounds, and five assists while becoming NYU's all-time leader in free throws made in a 76-65 victory over Stevens Institute of Technology.  She broke the school record previously owned by Marsha Harris (355 from 1994-98).  She concluded the week with a game-high 22 points, connecting on 10 of 11 free throws, and seven rebounds in a 63-45 win over Johns Hopkins University.

MMLora Turner (Emory): The junior shot 68 percent from the floor (17 o 25) while averaging 19 points and six rebounds in a two-game week for the Eagles.  Turner converted 10 of 13 field goals en route to a season-high 21 points, as well as picking up a team-best four rebounds in an 80-69 setback to Birmingham Southern College, she followed with a 17-point effort in an 80-67 triumph over Agnes Scott College, hitting seven of 12 field goals.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMErica Kaplan (Emory): The junior scored a season-high 20 points, hitting a career-high tying six of seven 3-point field goals, and pulled down eight rebounds in leading the Eagles to a 79-67 triumph over the University of the South.  Kaplan shot 66.7 percent (six of nine) from the floor for the game, making five 3-pointers in the opening half, and currently ranks sixth on the Emory all-time list with 81 three-point field goals.


Honor Roll

MMKathryn Berger  (Washington): The freshman forward averaged 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds, while shooting 66.7 percent (12 of 18) from the floor in leading the Bears to a pair of victories. Berger scored 14 points on five of eight shooting, pulled down seven rebounds, and added a blocked shot and a steal in an 88-58 win at Fontbonne University. Four days later, she netted her first career "double-double" with 15 points and 10 rebounds in a 77-48 win over Maryville University.

MMAnna Woods (Chicago): The sophomore forward averaged 10 points and 10.5 rebounds as the Maroons won a pair of non-conference games.  Woods scored nine points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 67-52 win at Carthage College before turning in her first career "double-double" with 11 points and 10 rebounds in an 83-40 win over North Park University.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMJaime Capra (Brandeis): The senior guard averaged 18.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and five assists in helping the Judges to a 3-0 week.  After compiling seven points, seven rebounds, and five assists in a   53-47 win at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Capra tallied 24 points (10 of 18 field goals with two         3-pointers), eight rebounds, and four assists in a 59-46 victory over Wheaton College (MA).  Two days later, she contributed a season-high 25 points and a career-best six assists while pulling down five rebounds in a 75-56 victory over Williams College.  For the week, she shot 46 percent (19 of 41) from the floor, 42 percent (five of 12) from three-point range, and 87 percent (13 of 15) from the line.

MMJessica McEntee (NYU): The junior forward averaged 24.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, three assists, and 2.5 steals while shooting 61.5 percent (16-for-26) from the field and going 16-for-16 from the free-throw line in a 2-0 week for the Violets.  After tallying 18 points and 12 rebounds in a 67-48 victory at the State University of New York at Oswego, McEntee registered 31 points and 11 rebounds in an 86-70 triumph over Drew University.  She hit 13 of 13 free throws in the contest, extending her NYU-record shooting streak to 27 consecutive free throws made.

MMAshley Horton (Case): The senior center scored 14 points to go with nine rebounds and three steals in the Spartans' 64-51 victory over the College of Wooster.

MMLora Turner (Emory): The junior averaged 16.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in a pair of contests for the Eagles. Turner scored a team-high 21 points, hitting seven of 10 shots from the floor and seven of nine from the free-throw line in an 87-78 loss at 25th-ranked Oglethorpe University. Two days later, she tallied 12 points, her sixth double-figure scoring performance of the season, while pulling down a team-high nine rebounds in a 64-62 loss to Maryville College (TN).  In the two games, she shot 60 percent (12-for-20) from the floor and 81.8 percent (9-for-11) from the line.

MMAlex Porter (Rochester): The junior put together back-to-back "double-double" performances in a pair of road wins for the Yellowjackets, averaging 11.5 points and 12 rebounds. Porter tallied 11 points, 13 rebounds (11 defensive), and four assists to go with a blocked shot and a steal in a 77-67 triumph over William Smith College, then compiled 12 points and a game-high 11 reboundsi n a 56-44 triumph over Union College.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MM Jessica McEntee (NYU): The junior forward tallied a career-high 38 points, hitting a single-game school record 20 of 21 free throws, and grabbing 19 rebounds in an 87-82 victory over the State University of New York at New Paltz.  McEntee, who put up a “double-double” of 15 points (nine of 10 free throws) and 10 rebounds (eight on offense) by halftime, established a Coles Sports Center record for points scored and free throws made in a game.  The 19 rebounds marked the second-best total of her career.


Honor Roll

MMStacie Aleski (Carnegie Mellon): The junior guard totaled 18 points, six rebounds, and four steals in leading the Tartans to their second straight win and a 5-1 record in a 60-50 win at Waynesburg College.

MMAshley Horton (Case): The senior center averaged 17 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks, and two assists, while shooting 63 percent (12 of 19) in a 2-0 week for the Spartans. Horton scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in a 55-43 victory over Grove City College before tallying 20 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three blocked shots in a 74-61 victory over Ohio Wesleyan University.

MMErica Kaplan (Emory): The junior recorded a pair of double-figure scoring contests last week in helping the Eagles to two wins.  Kaplan totaled a game-high 16 points, while chipping in three assists and two steals in a 79-44 win against LaGrange College before finishing with 11 points, a team-high tying eight rebounds and three steals in a 69-57 triumph at Huntingdon College.  For both games, Kaplan shot 45 percent from the floor (nine of 20), including 50 percent (4-for-8) from three-point range, and five of six from the free-throw line.

MMJaimie McFarlin (Washington): The junior forward led the Bears to a 1-1 weekend in Ohio, averaging 19 points, nine rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and 2.5 steals per game. McFarlin poured in a career-high 29 points to go with nine rebounds, two blocked shots, and four steals in a 87-76 win at Denison University.  In a 66-58 loss to Capital University the following day, McFarlin scored nine points to go along with nine rebounds.

MMLauren Orlando (Brandeis): The junior forward led the Judges to a 2-0 week with wins over Emmanuel College (86-62) and Babson College (57-43), averaging 21 points, seven rebounds, and 3.5 blocked shots per game. Orlando registered career highs of 27 points and nine rebounds to go with four blocked shots in 23 minutes of action in the win over Emmanuel, shooting 9-for-16 from the floor (2-for-3 from three-point range), and 7-for-12 from the line. Against Babson, Orlando totaled 15 points on 7-for-14 shooting from the field with five rebounds and three blocked shots in 18 minutes. For the week, she shot 53 percent (16 of 30) from the floor and 57 percent (eight of 14) from the line.

MMAlex Porter (Rochester): The junior forward scored 14 points, collected seven rebounds, and added an assist and three steals in 21 minutes for the Yellowjackets in a 77-51 victory over Elmira College. Porter was one of three Rochester starters to reach double figures, hitting five of seven field goals and all four of her free throws.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMAshley Horton (Case): The senior center registered three consecutive “double-double” performances in averaging 15.7 points, 11.3 rebounds, and shooting 59 percent (23 of 39) from the field in a 1-2 week for the Spartans.  After opening the week with 17 points and 10 rebounds in a 79-65 loss to Baldwin-Wallace College, Horton collected 18 points and a season-high 14 rebounds in a 70-63 loss to defending NCAA Division III champion DePauw University in the opening game of the Thomas More College shootout.  She finished the weekend with 12 points and 10 rebounds in a 67-53 victory over Centre College.

MMJaimie McFarlin (Washington): The junior forward averaged 14.7 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 3.3 blocks in a 3-0 week, capped off by earning Most Valuable Player accolades during the seventh annual McWilliams Classic hosted by the Bears.  McFarlin began the week with a six-point, nine-rebound, three-blocked shot performance in an 82-38 triumph over Blackburn College before breaking out with a career-high 28 points to go with 18 rebounds, five assists, and four blocked shots in a 78-75 double-overtime win over Kenyon College in the opening round of tournament play, She finished the weekend with 10 points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots in a 58-51 victory over Carleton College in the championship game.

MMJaime Capra  (Brandeis): The senior guard became the eighth player in Brandeis history to reach the 1,000 point plateau in a 70-37 win at Wellesley College, scoring a game-high 15 points. Capra also tallied 10 points in a 57-43 loss to Tufts University.

MMSarah McDevitt (NYU): The junior forward averaged 12.5 points, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 steals on 57.1 percent shooting (eight of 14) from the floor, including seven 3-point field goals, en route to All Tournament team honors during the New York University Classic. McDevitt poured in a game-high 17 points on 6-for-9 shooting (5-for-7 behind the arc), while adding three assists and three steals in an 81-40 victory over Farleigh Dickinson University-Florham, then followed with eight points in 12 minutes of a 90-55 Violet triumph over Worcester State College.

MMJamie Stinson (Chicago): The sophomore guard was named the Most Valuable Player of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Thanksgiving Showcase, helping the Maroons to the team title.  Stinson contributed 12 points in a 66-45 win over Edgewood College in the opener before scoring 12 points in a 56-49 win over the host Blugolds in the title matchup.  In the two contests, Stinson shot 81.8 percent (nine of 11) from the field, including 75 percent (three of four) from three-point range.

MMLora Turner (Emory): The junior tallied game highs of 17 points and nine rebounds to go with a pair of blocked shots and two steals in a 64-51 setback to Piedmont College.  Turner hit on seven of 13 shots from the field and three of six free throws en route to her third straight double-figure scoring performance. She has 320 career rebounds, nine shy of moving into 20th place on the school’s all-time chart.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMJessica McEntee (NYU): The junior forward averaged 19 points and 13 rebounds en route to Most Valuable Player honors in helping the Violets to the championship of their own NYU Tip-Off Tournament. McEntee, who shot 52.6 percent (14 of 26) from the field and 66.7 percent (16-for-24) from the free-throw line for the weekend, collected 14 points and 10 boards in a season-opening 61-40 victory over Trinity College (CT). In the championship game against Farmingdale State College, she tallied  game-highs of 24 points and 16 rebounds in a in a 71-61 triumph.


Honor Roll

MMStacie Aleski (Carnegie Mellon): The junior averaged 16 points and 4.5 rebounds, shot 43 percent from the floor, and registered five steals to garner Most Valuable Player honors at the UAA/Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) challenge hosted by the Tartans. After compiling 15 points (6-for-6 at the free-throw line), five steals, and four rebounds in a 77-73 win over Otterbein College, Aleski tallied a game-high 17 points, connecting on a personal best four of six 3-pointers, and pulled down five rebounds in a 51-48 triumph over Mount Union College.

MMMolly Hackney (Chicago): The sophomore forward earned tournament MVP honors as the Maroons won their season opening Midway Classic, averaging 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, three blocks, and two steals in a pair of victories. After scoring 12 points in a 72-63 first-round win over Concordia (MN) College, Hackney finished with 25 points, 10 rebounds, and a tournament-record six blocked shots in a 77-67 victory over Baruch College in the title contest.

MMMary Herendeen (Case): The senior guard averaged 18 points and 4.5 rebounds, while contributing six assists and five steals in leading the Spartans to a 1-1 record at the UAA/Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Challenge hosted by Carnegie Mellon Univrsity. Herendeen shot 50 percent (13 of 26) from the field, including eight 3-point field goals as Case posted a 69-57 victory over Otterbein College and a 64-59 loss to Mount Union College.

MMJulie Marriott (Rochester): The junior was named the Most Valuable Player of the Yellowjackets' season-opening Chuck Resler Tournament, averaging 13 points, 5.3 rebounds and four assists in leading Rochester to wins over Mount Saint Vincent College and fifth-ranked Bowdoin College. After tallying eight points, seven rebounds and four assists against Mount Saint Vincent, Marriott led all scorers with 20 points, hitting six of 14 field goals with a pair of three-pointers and making all six free-throw attempts, to go along with four rebounds and three assists in the win over the Polar Bears.

MMLauren Orlando (Brandeis): The junior forward paced the Judges to a 1-1 start at the Brandeis University Tip-Off Tournament, earning all-tournament team after averaging 15 points, 4.5 rebounds and one steal as the Judges defeated Mount Holyoke College, 77-38, but fell to Kenyon College, 67-62. Orlando scored the Judges' first nine points on her way to 12 for the game, while also corralling three rebounds. She scored a team-high 18 points against Kenyon, connecting on seven of 12 field goals with a three-pointer, and three of four from the line. She also grabbed six rebounds. For both games, Orlando shot 60 percent from the field (12-for-20), 40 percent from 3-point range (two of five), and 80 percent from the line (4-for-5).

MMLora Turner (Emory): The junior averaged 15 points and 9.5 rebounds in helping the Eagles to a pair of wins in the inaugural Emory University Tip-Off Classic. Turner picked up 11 points in a 93-55 season-opening win against Spelman College before leading all players with 19 points and a career-high 16 rebounds in a 55-54 triumph against Montclair State University in the title game.  Turner’s 16 boards represented her fifth career outing of 10 or more rebounds and tied for the 10th-highest single-game mark in school history.
