UAA Athlete of the Week

MMTroy Ruths (Washington): The senior forward averaged 20.5 points, four rebounds, and 3.5 steals per game in earning Most Valuable Player honors during sectional play of the 2008 NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship, leading the Bears into the national semifinal for the second straight year.  Ruths collected 18 points, five rebounds, and four steals in an 85-77 overtime win over Buena Vista University in the third round, then followed with 23 points on nine of 15 shooting from the field in the 57-46 win over 14th-ranked Millsaps College in the sectional final.  For both games, Ruths shot 51.7 percent (15 of 29) from the field and 91.7 percent (11 of 12) from the free-throw line.


Honor Roll

MMJon Onyiriuka (Rochester): The senior center finished with a "double-double" of 15 points (seven of 10 shooting from the field) and 11 rebounds (nine on defense) in his final collegiate apperance as the Yellowjackets dropped a 57-48 decision to the United States Coast Guard Academy in the third round of the 2008 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship. Onyiriuka also tallied two blocked shots and a steal in 37 minutes.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMRyan Einwag (Carnegie Mellon): The junior forward guided the Tartans to a 3-0 week, and the 2008 ECAC South Championship title, averaging 24.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.7 blocks while shooting 63.4 percent (26-of-41) from the field, 58 percent (11-of-19) from behind the arc, and 91.7 percent (11-of-12) from the line en route to earning Most Outstanding Player honors.  After scoring 21 points and hauling in five rebounds in a 72-61 opening round win over Grove City College, Einwag led all scorers during the semifinals and finals with 25 and 28 points, respectively.  He recorded his first “double-double” of the season in a 69-54 semifinal win over College Misericordia, hauling in 12 rebounds while shooting 8-of-13 from the floor and 4-of-8 from behind the arc for 25 points.  In a 75-67 win in the championship game against Gwynedd-Mercy College he shot 10-of-15 from the floor, 4-of-7 from the arc, added five rebounds and five assists.

MMTroy Ruths (Washington): The senior forward averaged 24.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 68.8 percent as the Bears advanced to the NCAA Division III sectionals with two road victories last weekend in Rock Island, IL. Ruths scored 28 points on 13-of-19 shooting in the Bears’ 79-74 win against 17th-ranked College of Wooster in the first round of the championship on Friday. He followed that up with 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting in a 70-67 overtime victory against sixth-ranked Augustana College.  Ruths is averaging a UAA-best 19.6 points per game.


Honor Roll

MMKwame Graves-Fulgham (Brandeis): The senior averaged nine assists in two games to help guide the Judges to the "Sweet 16" of the NCAA Division III Championship for the first time in 30 years. Graves-Fulgham dished out a career-high 14 assists in an 80-59 opening round win over Lasell College to become Brandeis' all-time leader with 460. He added four assists the following day in a 68-53 win over Bowdoin College in the second round.

MMJohn Mish (NYU): The junior center averaged 17.5 points on 88.2 percent field-goal shooting (15-for-17), and averaged eight rebounds in helping the Violets reach the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Tournament semifinals.  He recorded his third "double-double" with 19 points (9-for-9 from the floor) and 11 rebounds in an 83-79, come-from-behind victory at St. Joseph’s College of Long Island in the first round, then tallied a game-high 16 points three days later on six of eight shooting from the field in a 56-44 semifinal loss at York College (NY).

MMMike Chmielowiec (Rochester): The junior forward tallied 29 points in helping the Yellowjackets to first and second round wins in the NCAA Division III Championship, advancing to the "Sweet 16" for the first time since the 2004-05 season. Chmielowiec compiled 13 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 34 minutes of a 56-43 win over Middlebury College, then scored 16 points on six of 12 field-goal shooting (four of seven 3-pointers) in a 65-56 win over Penn State University-Behrend. His three-pointer with 3:30 remaining in the game gave Rochester  a seven-point lead and stopped the last Behrend comback.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMNate Hainje (Chicago): The senior forward scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the 25th-ranked Maroons defeated seventh-ranked Washington University, 74-66, to win the UAA title and earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship.  Hainje hit a pair of three-pointers late in the first half as Chicago rallied from a 12-point deficit to take a 36-35 lead at the half.  He then gave the Maroons the lead for good, 58-56, with a pair of free throws with 5:16 to play in the game.

MMUche Ndubizu (Rochester): The senior scored a career-high 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in leading the Yellowjackets to a 74-67 victory at Carnegie Mellon University in the UAA season finale for both teams.  Ndubizu hit eight of 12 from the floor, sunk eight of 13 free throws, and dished out a team-high tying five assists.


Honor Roll

MMMason Conrad (Case): The senior center scored a team-high 26 points and grabbed a team-best nine rebounds to lead the Spartans to a 96-93 victory over Emory University. Conrad finishes his Case career with 1,227 points (eighth all-time) and 606 -rebounds (fourth all-time).

MMSpiros Ferderigos (Emory): Playing his final college game, the senior scored a team-high 29 points (23 coming in the second half), while contributing five assists and four steals in a 96-93 loss to Case Western Reserve University. Federigos hit a season-high 11 of 17 shots from the floor and five of six from the free throw line. He closed the season leading the Eagles in scoring (18.1 points per game) and his 453 points ranks fifth on the school’s all-time list.  For his four-year career, Federigos finished with 1,630 points (second all-time) and a career school record 201 steals.

MMTerrell Hollins (Brandeis): The sophomore came off the bench to score a team-high 17 points in 17 minutes to go with five rebounds and four assists in a 58-44 win over New York University in the regular-season finale. Hollins went 7-for-10 from the floor but was just 3-for-8 from the line.

MMJohn Mish (NYU): The junior center John Mish accounted for half of the Violets offense in a 58-44 loss at Brandeis University, totaling 22 points and nine rebounds, while going 9-for-15 from the floor and 4-for-5 from the free-throw line in producing his second career 20-plus-point performance.

MMTroy Ruths (Washington): The senior forward scored 24 points on six of 19 shooting from the floor and 12 of 15 free-throw shooting in the Bears' 74-66 loss at 23rd-ranked University of Chicago. He finished the regular season leading the UAA in scoring in conference play (22.0 ppg) and overall (19.2 ppg).

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMNate Hainje (Chicago): The senior forward exploded for 54 points, grabbed 18 rebounds, and dished out six assists in two games as the Maroons won a pair of Association games to gain a share of first place.  Hainje poured in a career-high 30 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in an 81-62 win over New York University before scoring a game-high 24 points in a 74-66 victory over sixth-ranked Brandeis University.  In the two contests, he shot 61 percent (19 of 31) from the field, 53 percent (eight of 15) from three-point range, and 80 percent (eight of 10) from the free-throw line.


Honor Roll

MMRobert Dominiak (Rochester): The senior compiled 36 points in a 2-0 weekend for the Yellowjackets, tying the single-season school record for three-point field goals. Dominiak talalied 16 points, hitting 6 of 11 from the floor (2-for-7 from the three-point line), making both free throws, and adding two assists and a blocked shots in a 75-56 win over Case Western Reserve University. Two days later, he scored 20 points in a 76-63 win over Emory University, connecting on seven of 12 from the field and six of 10 outside the arc with three assists. For the weekend, Dominiak shot 56.5 percent (13 of 23) from the field and 47.1 percent (eight of 17) from three-point range. The eight three-pointers raised his season total to 84, tying the single-season mark set by Kyle Meeker in 1991-92 (in 31 games).

MMSpiros Ferderigos (Emory): The senior averaged 20 points, four rebounds, and 1.5 assists in leading the Eagles in scoring during a pair of road contests, to move into second place on the Emory all-time scoring lists. In a 78-70 loss to Carnegie Mellon University, Ferderigos tallied 22 points, sinking a season-high tying nine of 19 from the field (including a season-best four-of-six from three-point range).  He followed that performance with a team-leading 18 points during a 76-63 loss to the University of Rochester, knocking down six of 12 field goals with three 3-pointers. For both games, Ferderigos shot 51.7 percent from the floor (15 of 29), and 53.8 percent from three-point range

MMGreg Gonzalez (Carnegie Mellon): The senior collected back-to-back "double-double" performances in guiding the Tartans to a 2-0 UAA weekend, averaging 17.5 points, 17.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.5 blocks. Gonzales pulled down a career-high 21 rebounds to go along with 12 points and four assists in a 70-66 win over Case Western Reserve University before posting game-highs of 23 ponts, 14 rebounds, four blocks, and three steals in a 78-70 win over Emory University.

MMStephen Hill  (Brandeis): The senior averaged 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Judges, shooting 70 percent from the field (12 of 17) and 75 percent from the line (3-for-4). In a 68-66 win at Washington University, he scored six points and a game-high eight rebounds, including two big rebounds in the last minute that helped the Judges maintain their lead. Two days later, he tallied a career-high 21 points on nine of 11 shooting from the field while grabbing seven rebounds in a 74-66 loss to the University of Chicago

MMJohn Mish (NYU): The junior center averaged 14.5 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting 48.3 percent (14-for-29) in two UAA contests for the Violets. Mish finished with 17 points and a career-high tying 13 rebounds in an 81-62 loss to the University of Chicago before contributing 12 points and eight rebounds in a 61-52 setback at fourth-ranked Washington University.

MMTroy Ruths (Washington): The senior forward averaged 22.5 points and 7.5 rebounds during a 1-1 weekend for the Bears. Ruths tallied 14 points in a 68-66 loss to sixth-ranked Brandeis University before totaling 31 points and 11 rebounds in a 61-52 win over New York University. For the weekend, Ruths shot 48.6 percent (17 of 35) from the field and hit 91.7 percent (11 of 12) from the foul line.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMNate Hainje (Chicago): The senior forward registered back-to-back “double-double” performances in surpassing 1,000 career points in a 2-0 weekend for the Maroons.  Hainje tallied 23 points, including the 1,000th point of his career, and pulled down 11 rebounds in an 87-73 win over Emory University.  He then collected 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Maroons defeated Case Western Reserve University. 84-56.  In the two games, Hainje shot 54 percent (14 of 26) from the field and 57 percent (four of seven) from three-point range.

MMTyler Nading (Washington): The junior forward averaged 19 points, 11 rebounds, 4.5 steals, and three assists in two UAA road wins.  Nading compiled 19 points, a career-high 15 rebounds, and five steals in a 71-68 come-from-behind win at Case Western Reserve University. He followed two days later with 19 points, eight rebounds, four steals, and four assists in a 78-71 overtime win at Emory University, to become the 17th player in school history to score 1,000 or more points. Nading shot 53.3 percent (16 of 30) from the field for the week.

MMTerrance Bouldin-Johnson (Carnegie Mellon): The junior posted career numbers in a 1-1 week for the Tartans, averaging 12 points, seven rebounds, and 4.5 blocks while shooting 67 percent from the floor.Bouldin-Johnson scored 12 points on five of eight shooting from the field and tallied a career-high four blocks and added three steals in a 68-60 victory at New York University, before tallying 12 points on five of seven field-goal shooting and registering career-highs in rebounds (nine) and blocks (five) in an 84-81 loss at 10th-ranked Brandeis University.

MMJoe Coppens (Brandeis): The senior guard averaged 16.5 points and 5.5 rebounds as the 10th-ranked Judges extended their winning streak to six games with wins over sixth-ranked University of Rochester (68-64) and Carnegie Mellon University (84-81). Coppens had 10 points, five rebounds and two assists in the win over Rochester, before scoring a game-high 23 points, including the 1,000th of his career, and grabbing six rebounds against Carnegie Mellon. Coppens is the 26th Brandeis player to reach 1,000 career points. For the weekend, Coppens hit 54 percent from the field (12 of 22), 37 percent from 3-point range (3 of 11) and all six of his free throws.

MMRobert Dominiak (Rochester): The senior put together two balanced games in a pair of UAA road contests for the Yellowjackets. Dominiak compiled 13 points and three assists in a 68-64 loss to 10th-ranked Brandeis University before tallying 21 points, including six 3-pointers, in a 92-85 double overtime loss to New York University.

MMSpiros Ferderigos (Emory): Playing in his final two home games in his career, the senior posted back-to-back "double doubles" in contests against the University of Chicago and No. 7-ranked Washington University, moving into third place on the school's all-time scoring list. Ferderigos totaled 22 points, grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and registered four steals in an 87-73 loss to Chicago, before notching a team-high 17 points and a game-high tying 12 rebounds in a 78-71 overtime loss to the seventh-ranked Bears. Ferderigos has 1,561 career points, only 31 points shy from second place on the all-time scoring chart.

MMGreg Gonzalez (Carnegie Mellon): The fifth-year senior collected back-to-back "double-doubles: in a 1-1 week for the Tartans, averaging 16 points, 12.5 rebounds and three assists while shooting 87 percent (13 of 15) from the free-throw line and 50-percent from three-point range. Gonzalez scored 11 points and hauled in 11 rebounds in a 68-60 victory at New York University before posting a team-high 21 points in an 84-81 loss to tenth-ranked Brandeis University, shooting 92 percent (11 of 12) from the line. He also hauled in a career-high 14 rebounds and dished out a career-high four assists.

MMKevin Olson (Brandeis): The junior guard averaged a team-leading 18 points along with two rebounds, 1.5 assists, one block and one steal in a 2-0 week for the Judges . Olson totaled a game-high 20 points while conributing two rebounds, two assists and a block in a 68-64 triumph over the University of Rochester, before compiling 16 points, two rebounds, an assists, a block and two steals in an 84-81 triumph over Carnegie Mellon University. For the week, Olson connected on 58.3 percent from the field (14 of 24), 62.5 percent from three-point range (five of eight), and 75 percent from the line (three of four).

MMRichie Polan (NYU): The freshman forward averaged 19.5 points and four rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Violets.  After finishing with 19 points in a 68-60 loss to Carnegie Mellon University, Polan helped power a 15-point come-from-behind rally a 92-85 double-overtime victory over sixth-ranked University of Rochester, pouring in a team-high tying 20 points. For the weekend, Polan shot 50 percent (14-for-28) from the field, 36.4 percent (4-for-11) from three-point range, and hit all seven of his free-throw attempt.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMJoe Coppens (Brandeis): The senior guard averaged 21.5 points, five rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 steals in leading the Judges to a pair of UAA home victories.  Coppens led all scorers with 23 points and grabbed four rebounds in a 90-85 overtime win over Emory University. Nineteen of his 23 points came in the second half and overtime, including a key steal and three-pointer with three minutes left in regulation to give Brandeis its first lead since early in the contest.  Two days later, Coppens tallied a game-high 20 points and six rebounds as the Judges cruised to their biggest win of the season, an 88-57 triumph over Case Western Reserve University.  For the week, Coppens hit 62 percent from the field (13 of 21), 57 percent (four of seven) from three-point range, and 87 percent (13 of 15) from the line.

MMKeith Jensen (NYU): The sophomore forward averaged 19.5 points on 51.9 percent (14-for-27) shooting from the floor, including 47.4 percent (9-for-19) from three-point range, in leading the Violets to a 2-0 week.  Jensen shot 6-for-13 from the floor, including 4-for-8 from long range, and finished with 16 points in a 64-54 triumph over Case Western Reserve University. Two days later, he tallied a career-high 23 points, including five 3-pointers, and added four rebounds and three assists in a 76-69 victory over Emory University, shooting eight of 14 from the floor, and five of 11 from three-point range.

MMMike Chmielowiec (Rochester): The junior totaled 32 points in a 1-1 weekend for the Yellowjackets. Chmielowiec tied for top scoring honors on the team with 14 points (6 of 10 shootng from the floor with a pair of three-pointers) in a 64-63 victory at the University of Chicago, capping a late rally by sinking a three-pointer to give Rochester a four-point lead in the closing moments. Two days later he tallied 18 points on seven of 12 field-goal shooting (2 of five from 3-point range), and added two assists and two steals in a 54-53 loss to Washington University.

MMBrian Giometti (Emory): The junior came off the bench and scored 12 points in UAA games against tenth-ranked Brandeis University and New York University.  Giometti hit four of eight field goals, including two of four from three-point range, in a 90-85 overtime loss to Brandeis. Two days later in a 76-69 loss at NYU, he nailed four of six from beyond the arc in recording his tenth double-figure scoring performance of the season.  For the weekend, Giometti shot 57.1 percent (eight of 14) from the floor, including 60 percent (six of 10) from three-point range.

MMNate Hainje (Chicago): The senior forward averaged 17.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists as the Maroons split a pair of Association games.  He contributed 17 points, seven rebounds, and a pair of assists in a 64-63 loss to third-ranked University of Rochester, before posting a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds to go along with five assists in a 97-78 win over Carnegie Mellon University.

MMDanny O’Boyle (Washington): The senior averaged 16.5 points coming off the bench, connecting on nine of 13 three pointers as the Bears moved into first place in the UAA standings with two home wins. O’Boyle scored a career-high 25 points on seven of 10 shooting behind the arc in a 79-68 win over Carnegie Mellon University. He followed that up with eight points, hitting two of three from three-point range, in the Bears’ 54-53 win over third-ranked University of Rochester. O’Boyle presently ranks second all-time at Washington in three-point field goal shooting percentage (.461) and tenth in three pointers made (111).

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMGreg Gonzalez (Carnegie Mellon): The senior averaged 18 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks while shooting 65 percent (13 of 20) from the field and 50 percent (four of eight) from the three-point line in helping the Tartans to a pair of Association triumphs, defeating the University of Chicago, 74-60, before scoring an 86-55 victory over top-ranked Washington University. Gonzalez posted 16 points on six of 10 field goal shooting, and added nine rebounds and three blocks in the win over Chicago, before tallying a game-high 20 points (seven of 10 field goal shooting) and nine rebounds in the victory over Washington.  In both games, he was perfect from the free-throw line, converting all six attempts.

MMNate Hainje (Chicago): The senior forward compiled 22 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists in a 74-65 triumph over third-ranked University of Rochester, moving the Maroons into a three-way tie for the top spot in the Association standings.

MMKeith Jensen (NYU): The sophomore forward averaged 16 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and three steals in leading the Violets to a pair of UAA road victories. Jensen contributed 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists in a 78-71 win at Emory University. Two days later, he finished with a team-high 20 points, six rebounds, a career-best five steals, and four assists in a 79-67 come-from-behind victory at Case Western Reserve University. For the weekend, Jensen shot 50 percent (10-for-20) from the floor, 41.3 percent (5-for-12) from three-point range, and hit all seven free-throw attempts.

MMJohn Kresse (Emory): The junior averaged 8.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 7.5 assists in a pair of UAA home contests. Kresse doled out a career-high nine assists, pulled down five rebounds and had a steal in a 78-71 loss to New York University, then followed with his sixth double-figure scoring performance of the season with 13 points in an 89-81 loss to ninth-ranked Brandeis University.

MMUche Ndubizu (Rochester): The senior averaged 18 points and eight rebounds, while shooting 69.6 percent (16 of 23) from the field in a 1-1 weekend for the Yellowjackets. Ndubizu registered a “double-double” of 20 points and 11 rebounds in a 73-70 overtime triumph over top-ranked Washington University. He sent the game into overtime with his basket at the buzzer and scored four straight points in the overtime session. Two days later, he registered 16 points, five rebounds, and five assists in the 74-65 loss to the University of Chicago.

MMCorey O’Rourke (Carnegie Mellon): The Junior was part of a defense that helped the Tartans to a pair of big Association victories at home, including an 86-55 triumph over top-ranked Washington University. In the victory, O’Rourke posted his first career “double-double” with 14 points and 11 rebounds. He also added six assists and six steals. Two days earlier, he scored 11 points in a 74-60 win over the University of Chicago.

Olson tallied 25 points, four rebounds, and two assists in a 90-75 win at Case Western Reserve University, hitting eight of 15 shots from the field (six of 10 from beyond the arc). Two days later, he compiled 15 points and three rebounds in an 89-81 triumph over Emory University.

MMAndre Roberson (Brandeis): The sophomore guard came off the bench to score 29 points in an 89-81 win at Emory University, connecting on nine of 11 shots from the field (with a pair of three-pointers) and the free-throw line, and was two-of-three from downtown. Two days earlier. Roberson tallied 11 points and six assists in a 90-75 win at Case Western Reserve University. For the week, he hit 69 percent from the floor (11 of 16), 67 percent from 3-point range (2-3), and 80 percent from the line (16 of 20).

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMAnthony Fernandez (Emory): The sophomore forward posted back-to-back career-high scoring efforts in leading the Eagles to a pair of home victories, averaging 21 points, five rebounds, and two steals, while shooting 56.3 percent (18 of 32) from the floor and 77.8 percent (seven of nine) from the free-throw line (7-of-9).  Fernandez registered 20 points, hitting nine of 13 from the field, and added two blocks and a pair of steals in leading Emory to an 81-76 overtime triumph over top-ranked  and previously unbeaten University of Rochester.  He followed that effort with a career-best 23 points, grabbing a team-leading eight rebounds, in an 89-85 come-from-behind victory against Carnegie Mellon University, converting nine of 19 from the floor and five of six free throws.

MMTroy Ruths (Washington): The senior averaged 21 points and 9.5 rebounds in a pair of Association road wins.  Ruths totaled 17 points and seven rebounds in a 57-50 win at New York University, then followed with 25 points and a season-high 12 rebounds in the Bears’ 71-69 upset win at second-ranked Brandeis University.  Ruths scored 19 points in the second half, including the Bears’ final eight points as part of 9-0 game-ending rally to capture their 12th-straight win.

MMMichael Chmielowiec (Rochester): The junior posted back-to-back career games during a 1-1 weekend for the Yellowjackets. Chmielowiec scored a career-high 22 points, connecting on four of nine 3-pointers, in an 81-76 overtime loss to Emory University, then topped that performance by scoring 23 points (eight of them during a 14-0 run over four minutes midway into the second half) in an 85-74 win over Case Western Reserve University.

MMJoe Coppens (Brandeis): The senior guard averaged 19 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in a pair of Association home contests for the Judges. Coppens totaled 27 points, two rebounds, and two steals in a 79-77 loss to the University of Chicago, and compiled 11 points, five rebounds, and a steal in a 71-69 loss to Washington University. For both games, Coppens shot 55 percent from the field (11-for-20), 64 percent from three-point range (9-for-14), and made all seven free-throw attempts. .

MMMatt Corning (Chicago): The junior guard shot 57.7 percent from the floor (15 of 26), 66.7 percent from three-point range (4-for-6), and also contributed six rebounds and six assists in a pair of UAA road wins. Corning shared top scoring honors with 27 points in a 79-77 triumph over second-ranked Brandeis University, then tallied 15 points in a 61-44 win at New York University.

MMGreg Gonzalez (Carnegie Mellon): The fifth year senior averaged 19.5 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks in a 1-1 Association weekend for the Tartans. Gonzalez registered his fifth “double-double” of the season with 25 points and 12 rebounds in an 86-72 win at Case Western Reserve University. He also had four blocked shots to move into second place on the Tartans all-time block charts.  Two days later, in an 85-89 setback at Emory University, he had 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

MMRichie Polan (NYU): The freshman forward averaged nine points and 7.5 rebounds on 46.7 percent field-goal shooting (7-for-15) as the Violets dropped a pair of Association contests.  Polan provided team highs of 13 points and eight rebounds in a 57-50 loss to Washington University, then contributed five points and a team-best seven rebounds two days later in a 61-44 defeat versus the University of Chicago.

MMSteve Young (Case): The junior forward averaged 21 points (14 of 27 field-goal shooting), 3.5 rebounds, three assists, and two steals in a two-game UAA home weekend for the Spartans. Young scored 16 points (four of six from 3-point range), grabbed three rebounds, dished out three assists, and tallied four steals in an 86-72 loss to Carnegie Mellon University, then ran off a season-high 26 points on six of 13 shooting from behind the arc, along with four rebounds and a pair of steals during an 85-74 loss to the University of Rochester. Young shot 52.6 percent (10 of 19) from the three-point line for both games.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMTroy Ruths (Washington): The senior averaged 21.5 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and 2.5 blocks in leading the Bears to a pair of UAA weekend home victories. Ruths totaled 17 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four blocks in an 85-63 win over Emory University, then followed with a game-high 25 points, 17 of which came in the second half, in an 85-57 win over Case Western Reserve University.


Honor Roll

MMSpiros Ferderigos (Emory): The senior averaged 16.5 points and three rebounds in a pair of UAA road games.  Ferderigos tallied 17 points (six of 10 from the floor with two 3-pointers) and dished out a pair of assists in an 85-63 loss to Washington University before compiling 16 points (five of nine FG, 5-for-5 from the line) in a 91-65 loss to the University of Chicago. For both games, he shot 57.8 percent (11 of 19) from the floor, 75 percent (three of four) from three-point range, and was perfect (eight of eight) from the line.

MM Keith Jensen (NYU): The sophomore forward averaged 13.3 points on 52 percent shooting from the floor (46.2 percent from behind the arc) during a 2-1 week for the Violets.  Jensen scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half, including a 6-for-6 performance at the free-throw line in the final 32.9 seconds, as NYU overcame a 15-point first-half deficit to defeat 24th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University, 63-58.  Jensen opened the week by scoring all 14 of his points after halftime in an 82-73 win at Hunter College before tallying 11 points in a 70-54 setback at top-ranked University of Rochester.

MM Kevin Olson (Brandeis): The junior guard averaged 13.5 points in leading the Judges to a 1-1 week, shooting 61.1 percent from the field (11-for-18) and 60 percent from 3-point range (3-for-5). He came off the bench to score 11 points in a 60-48 win over Carnegie Mellon University, then tallied a game-high 16 points on six of 11 field goal shooting (2-for-4 from three-point range) and a pair of free throws during a 74-68 loss to top-ranked University of Rochester.

MM Jon Onyiriuka (Rochester): The senior played a key role in two big games for the Yellowjackets at home. Onyiriuka tallied a "double-double" of 18 points and 11 rebounds in a 70-54 triumph over New York University before compiling nine points, eight rebounds, and five assists in a 74-68 win over Brandeis University in a battle of the top two ranked teams in NCAA Division III according to D3Hoops.com.

MM Jake Pancratz (Chicago): The sophomore point guard averaged 17.5 points, 5.5 assists, and three steals in contributing to the Maroons' two Association weekend victories.  He totaled 16 points and eight boards in a 76-65 decision over Case Western Reserve University, before contributing 19 points and five assists in a 91-65 win over Emory University.  In the two games, Pancratz connected on seven of 14 attempts from three-point distance.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMJoe Coppens (Brandeis): The senior guard averaged 27 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals to pace the Judges to a 2-0 week and match their best start in school history (11-1). For both games, he shot 64 percent (16 of 25) from the field, 58.8 percent (10 of 17) from three-point range, and made all 12 free throw attempts.  Coppens scored a career-high 37 points on 11 of 16 shooting from the field (six of 10 three pointers) and pulled down seven rebounds in a 96-94 overtime win over Elms College, then tallied 17 points, six rebounds, and four steals in a 66-56 triumph over host New York University in the Association season opener for both teams.  Coppens also became the fifth player in school history to achieve 100 career field goals.

MMUche Ndubizu (Rochester): The senior forward averaged 16.3 points and 10.3 rebounds in three games, while shooting .783 from the floor (18 of 23) en route to Most Valuable Player honors in leading the Yellowjackets to the JPMorgan Chase Scholarship Tournament title.  Ndubizu tallied nine points and three rebounds in an 81-37 win over Keuka College in the opening round, before turning in back-to-back “double-double” performances in the semifinals and finals. He compiled 18 points (eight of 10 FG shooting) and 11 rebounds in a 75-70 win over the State University of New York at Brockport before finishing with 22 points  (7-for-9 from the floor, 8-for-10 from the line) and 14 rebounds in an 87-75 triumph over Nazareth College in the title game.


Honor Roll

MMSpiros Ferderigos (Emory): The senior came up with his second straight and third "double-double" of the season (sixth of his career) wirh a team-high tying 19 points and a team-best 13 rebounds in a 99-92 triumph against Case Western Reserve University.  Ferderigos, who also doled out four assists and came up with three steals, scored six of the team’s final eight points of the contest, sinking all six of his free throw opportunities en route to a 12 of 14 effort from the line.

MMGeoff Kozak (Carnegie Mellon): The senior point guard averaged 16.5 points and five rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the floor and 40 percent behind the arc in helping the Tartans extend their win streak to seven games with victories over Averett University (70-62) and Lycoming College (81-59).  Kozak tallied a career-high 21 points, including a 7-for-9 performance from the free throw line in the win over Lycoming. Against Averett, he totaled 12 points, six rebounds, and three assists.

MMRichie Polan (NYU): The freshman averaged 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and two blocks as the Violets went 1-1 on the week.  He also shot 62.5 percent (10-for-16) from the field, including 61.5 percent (8-for-13) from three-point range, and 71.4 percent (5-for-7) from the free-throw line.  Polan compiled a team-high 11 points, eight rebounds and career highs in blocks (4) and assists (4) in a 65-44 victory over Clarkson University, then tallied career-best in points (22) and three-point field goals (five) to go with six rebounds as the Violets dropped a 66-56 decision to second-ranked Brandeis University in the UAA opener for both teams.

MMTroy Ruths (Washington): The senior averaged 19.5 points and 3.5 rebounds as the seventh-ranked Bears won a pair of home games to extend their winning streak to eight games. After opening the week with 13 points and four rebounds in a 74-60 triumph over Webster University, Ruths scored a game-high 26 points in a 76-50 UAA season-opening win against the University of Chicago, moving into eighth place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,366 points.

MMBrad Sutton (Case): The junior forward scored 26 points on eight of 16 field goal shooting, including six 3-pointers, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out two assists in the Spartans 99-92 UAA loss to Emory University.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMKevin Herring  (Case): The freshman point guard Kevin Herring averaged 24 points and three assists for the Spartans at the Tampa Bay Shootout in St. Petersburg, FL. Herring tallied a career-high 35 points on 12 of 22 shooting from the floor (3-for-6 from three-point range) and hit eight of nine free throws in a 74-73 buzzer-beating loss to DePauw University in the opening round, before compiling 13 points and five assists in a 92-80 loss to Colby-Sawyer College the following day.  For both games, Herring connected on 14 of 15 free throws.


Honor Roll

MMSpiros Ferderigos (Emory): The senior averaged 17.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and three assists in helping The Eagles to a 1-1 week.  Ferderigos led Emory with 18 points while doling out four assists in an 82-67 home win against Birmingham Southern College before totaling a team-best 17 points and a career-high tying 14 rebounds in an 82-67 setback to 12th-ranked Guilford College, marking his second double-double of the season and fifth of his career.

MMGreg Gonzalez (Carnegie Mellon): The senior averaged 12.5 points and 9.8 rebounds in guiding the Tartans to a four straight wins over the holiday break, which included a 71-65 win over 12th-ranked Capital University.  Gonzalez finished the stretch with back-to-back "double-double" performances, scoring 14 points (4-for-4 free-throw shooting) and hauling in 12 rebounds in a 76-63 road win over La Roche College, then tallying a career-high 21 points, shooting 64 percent from the field and making all six free-throw attempts while grabbing 10 rebounds, in a 65-57 triumph over Juniata College. He scored eight points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and blocked three shots in the win over Capital and registered seven points and seven rebounds in only twenty minutes of action in an 83-63 victory over Christopher Newport University.  In the four game stretch he had at least one block shot tallying eight total giving him 107 for his career moving him into third place on the school’s all-time list. MMKeith Jensen (NYU): The sophomore forward 13.3 points and five rebounds, while shooting 52.9 percent from the floor and from three-point range, as the Violets won all four of their contests over the holiday break to extend their winning streak to six games.  Jensen averaged 17 points and six rebounds on 65 percent (13 for 20) shooting, including 66.7 percent (six of nine) from three-point range, en route to earning All-Tournament honors as NYU defeated Denison University (72-51) and Drew University (73-47) to capture their own holiday Tip-Off Tournament.  Jensen also scored a game-high 14 points in an 81-60 victory over Medaille College.

MMJake Pancratz  (Chicago): The sophomore point guard averaged 14 points and six assists as the Maroons notched a pair of non-conference wins.  Pancratz scored a career-high 19 points in a 73-69 win over Babson College, before collecting 14 points and a career-best 10 assists in an 80-73 overtime decision over the Milwaukee School of Engineering.  In the two contests, he shot 47 percent (eight of 17) from the field, 42 percent (five of 12) from three-point range, and 88 percent (seven of eight) from the foul line.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMSpiros Ferderigos (Emory): The senior guard scored a season-high 32 points, adding 12 rebounds and nine assists to pace the Eagles to their fifth straight win of the season with a 106-89 victory over Oglethorpe University.  Ferderigos sank eight of 14 shots from the floor, including three of four from 3-point range, and made 13 of 16 free throws en route to his fourth career contest of 30 or more points.  He also registered three blocked shots and a pair of steals.

MMTroy Ruths (Washington): The senior averaged 25 points and 10 rebounds in the Bears’ two victories for the week.  Ruths tallied 15 points and eight rebounds in a 73-57 win at Fontbonne University, then followed with his first “double-double” of the season with a career-high 35 points and 12 rebounds in a 68-63 win over Coe College. The scoring effort pushed him over 1,300 points for his career, making him the ninth player in school history to achieve the feat.


Honor Roll

MMJoe Coppens  (Brandeis): The senior guard recorded his first collegiate "double-double" in a 78-67 win over Curry College, tallying 15 points and a career-high 12 rebounds, six coming on the offensive glass. He also had two assists and two steals.

MMNate Hainje (Chicago): The senior forward led the Maroons in scoring, rebounding, and assists during an 85-70 triumph over Illinois Wesleyan University.  Hainje connected on nine of 12 attempts from the field, including four of six from 3-point range, en route to a career-high 25 points. He also grabbed seven rebounds and handed out six assists, both game highs.  The following day, he contributed five points, four assists, and one rebound in a 78-65 win over Concordia University Chicago.

MMJon Onyiriuka (Rochester): The senior averaged 22.5 points and seven rebounds in helping the unbeaten and top-ranked Yellowjackets to a pair of wins. Onyiriuka totaled 23 points and 10 rebounds in an 80-70 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology, then scored 22 points with four rebounds in a 75-58 win over St. John Fisher College. For the week, he shot 60 percent (21 of 35) from the floor while adding three assists, a blocked shot and a steal.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMGreg Gonzalez (Carnegie Mellon): The senior scored a game- and career-high 21 points in leading the Tartans to a 70-57 win over host Catholic University of America.  The fifth-year senior shot 58.3 percent from the floor (7-for-12) and made seven of eight free throws.  He also grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots, one shy of 100 for his career.

MMBrad Sutton (Case): The junior forward scored 22 points, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out two assists, and blocked two shots in the Spartans’ 94-91 victory over host Kenyon College.  Sutton, who scored the final five points for Case down the stretch to secure the win, connected on seven of 13 shots from-the-field, including five of eight from the three-point line.  Through nine games, he is shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc, hitting 22 of 44 three pointers.

MMSpiros Ferderigos (Emory): The senior averaged 17.5 points, five assists, and two steals in a 2-0 week for the Eagles. Ferderigos scored a game-high 17 points, shooting 6-for-10 from the floor with two 3-pointers, and dished out a team-high seven assists in an 89-52 triumph at Oglethorpe University. He followed two-days later with a team-high 18 points, all coming in the second half, while adding three assists and three steals in a 100-89 victory over Maryville College (TN). For both games, Ferderigos shot 61.1 percent (11 of 18) from the floor, 42.8 percent (three of seven) from three-point range, and 91 percent (10 of 11) from the free-throw line.

MMTerrell Hollins (Brandeis): The sophomore forward averaged 16 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in a 2-1 week for the Judges, shooting 54.8 percent (17 of 31) from the field and 70 percent (14 of 20)from the line. After opening the week with 21 points (10-for-13 field goal shooting) and three rebounds in an 82-71 win over Clark University, Hollins registered a "double-double" of 16 points and 11 rebounds and added four assists, two blocks, and two steals in a 71-64 overtime loss at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. He rounded out the week with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, including six on the offensive side, as the third-ranked Judges knocked off top-ranked and defending NCAA Division III champion Amherst College, 72-62.

MMKeith Jensen (NYU): The sophomore forward averaged 16 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 48 percent from the field (44.4 percent from three-point range) in the Violets' 2-0 week.  He scored 18 of his career-high 22 points (8-for-14 FG shooting, 4 of 6 three pointers), and also grabbed nine rebounds, in the first half of a 70-58 victory at Medgar Evers College.  The following day, he contributed 10 points, four rebounds, and two steals in a 70-54 home triumph over Endicott College.

MMJon Onyiriuka (Rochester): The senior surpassed 1,000 points for his career in a 70-57 Yellowjacket victory over Hobart College, tallying 16 points, three rebounds, two blocked shots, and a steal. Onyiriuka hit 7 of 15 field goals and was 2-for-6 from the line. His 1,015 points ties him for 21st place on Rochester's career scoring list.

MMCameron Smith (Washington): The sophomore forward scored a career-high 15 points (10 coming in the first half) and pulled down 12 rebounds in the Bears’ 69-66 win over Illinois Wesleyan University. Smith, who recorded his first career "double-double", was 6-for-9 from the field, including 3-for-6 from three-point range.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMTyler Nading (Washington): The junior forward averaged 24 points and seven rebounds en route to earning the Robert L. Burnes Most Valuable Player honor at the 24th Annual Washington University/Lopata Classic.  Nading tallied 23 points and five rebounds in a 94-64 opening round win against Earlham College before scoring 25 points on 10-for-14 shooting from the field, and pulling down nine rebounds in a 68-66 win over Babson College in the championship game.


Honor Roll

MMSpiros Ferderigos (Emory): The senior scored a team-high 21 points, hitting 12 of 14 free throws, grabbed eight rebounds, and registered four steals in helping Emory to a 92-84 win at Huntingdon College.  Ferderigos scored 15 of his points in the second half and recorded his third outing of 20 or more points this season.  Through six contests, he tops the Eagles with 16.5 points and 2.5 steals per game.

MMUche Ndubizu (Rochester): The senior posted his fifth career "double-double" with game highs of 16 points (7-for-13 from the floor) and 13 rebounds (11 offensive), while dishing out four assists, to lead the Yellowjackets to a 64-50 triumph over Carnegie Mellon University in the opening UAA contest of the season for both teams.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMMatt Corning (Chicago): The junior guard averaged 27.5 points in two games en route to garnering All-Tournament Team honors at the DePauw University/Mike Rokicki Community Versus Cancer Challenge, shooting 69.2 percent (18 of 26) from the floor, 62.5 percent (five of eight) from three-point range, and 87.5 percent (14 of 16) from the free-throw line.  Corning tallied 29 points (10 of 14 field goals with a pair of 3-pointers, seven of eight free throws), six rebounds, and a steal in an 89-75 win over Transylvania University in the opening-round before pouring in a game-high 26 points in an 81-67 loss to host DePauw in the championship game.

MMTyler Nading (Washington): The junior forward averaged 20.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, and three steals in a 2-1 week for the Bears.  After opening the week with 10 points, five rebounds, three blocked shots, and two steals in an 85-59 win over Maryville University, Nading averaged 25 points in two games during the Washington University/Webster University Tournament, tallying 20 points and a season-best 12 rebounds in a 66-60 loss to fifth-ranked Augustana College (IL) and posting a career-high 31 points to go with a school record-tying seven steals in an 87-76 win over University of Wisconsin-Platteville.  Nading shot 65.8 percent (25 of 30) from the floor for the three-game week.

MMBrandon Bradford (Case): The senior forward averaged 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 5.7 assists in a 3-0 week for the Spartans, capped off with Most Valuable Player honors at the 2007 Case Western Reserve University/Bill Sudeck Holiday Tournament. After tallying 16 points, 14 rebounds, and three assists in a 98-81 triumph over Hiram College, Bradford averaged 13 points, 5.7 rebounds, and seven assists in leading the Spartans to the championship of their own holiday tournament, compiling 17 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists in a 78-68 win over Adrian College before totaling nine points, nine rebounds, and seven assists in a 74-20 win over Cathloic University of America in the title game. For the week Bradford shot 55.5 percent (15 of 27) from the floor.

MMRobert Dominiak (Rochester): The senior tied a school and Louis Alexander Palestra record by sinking eight three-point field goals in a 76-69 victory over Ohio Wesleyan University in the championship game of the University of Rochester/Holiday Inn Airport Invitational. Dominiak, the tournament's Most Valuable Player, scored 20 of his career-high 26 points in the second half (six of seven 3-pointers) to help the Yellowjackets rally from an eight-point halftime deficit.  He finished shooting 9-for-13 from the floor (eight of 11 outside the arc) and added two rebounds, an assist, a blocked shot, and a steal in 31 minutes. In the two tournament games, Dominiak averaged 19.5 points with 12 three-pointers.

MMRyan Einwag (Carnegie Mellon): The junior forward averaged 17.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in two games at the Radisson/Carnegie Mellon University Tournament, garnering Most Outstanding Player honors in leading the Tartans to the team title.  After scoring 15 points and hauling in five rebounds in a 73-59 opening round win over Haverford College, Einwag led all scorers with 20 points, shooting 6-for-13 from the floor, and added four rebounds, three steals, and a career-high three blocked shots in a 71-60 win over Ohio Northern University in the championship game.

MMTerrell Hollins (Brandeis): The sophomore forward averaged 22.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and three assists during a 2-0 week for the Judges. Hollins scored a team-leading 24 points in just 21 minutes of an 89-59 win over Suffolk University, hitting 12 of 19 field goals. He totaled 21 points, six rebounds, and five assists as the Judges rallied from six points down to defeat Tufts University, 89-87, on the road. For the week, Hollins connected on 60 percent from the field (21 of 35) and 75 percent from the line (three of four).

MMSeth Kramer (Emory): The senior scored a career-high 18 points in helping the Eagles to an 89-72 win against LaGrange College at the Maryville College Thanksgiving Classic.  Kramer connected on eight-of-12 field goal opportunities as he registered his first double-figure scoring contest.

UAA Athlete of the Week

MMJoe Coppens (Brandeis): The senior guard averaged 17 points and three rebounds in leading the Judges to a pair of victories in the Brandeis University Tip-Off Classic, accounting for the go-ahead baskets in come-from-behind efforts in both games.  He scored a traditional three-point play with 17 minutes remaining in the second half as part of a 10-point performance in a 70-61 win over Kenyon College. The next day, Coppens hit a three-point field goal from the top of the key with 2:31 remaining that brought Brandeis back from an 11-point deficit in the second half en route to an 84-79 triumph over Bridgewater State College, finishing with 24 points, five rebounds, and four assists. For the weekend, Coppens shot 55 percent from the floor (11 of 20), 55.6 percent (five of nine) from 3-point range, and 87.5 percent (seven of eight) from the line.

MMTyler Nading (Washington): The junior forward averaged 20.5 points and three rebounds in two games at the Calvin College Tip-Off Tournament in Grand Rapids, MI, earning All-Tournament Team honors.  After scoring 17 points on seven-for-11 field goal shooting in a 74-68 season-opening win over Ohio Northern University, Nading led all scorers with 24 points, hitting 10 of 14 from the floor, and added four rebounds, two blocked shots, and two steals in an 87-82 loss to host and 17th-ranked Calvin College in the championship game.

MMMason Conrad (Case): The senior center averaged 16 points and 10.5 rebounds in leading the Spartans to runner-up honors in their season-opening Case Alumni Association Tip-Odd Classic. Conrad, who was named to the all-tournament team, scored a game high 20 points, hitting nine of 15 field goals, pulled down 13 rebounds, and added three blocked shots and a steal in 28 minutes in an 89-69 win over Alma College in the opening round before tallying 12 points and eight rebounds in a 77-82 loss to Earlham College in the championship game.

MMMatt Corning (Chicago): The junior guard averaged 18 points in two games en route to all-tournament team accolades as the Maroons finished second in their season-opening Midway Classic.  Corning was the high scorer in both Chicago games, totaling 19 points in a 70-59 opening-round victory over Lake Forest College before collecting 17 points in a 63-58 loss to Trinity (TX) University in the championship game.  He shot 52.4 percent (11 of 21) from the field and 75 percent (12-for-16) from the free-throw line.

MMRobert Dominiak (Rochester): The senior was named the Most Valuable Player of the Yellowjackets' season opening Chuck Resler Tournament, averaging 17.5 points and shooting 56.3 percent (nine of 16) from the three-point line in helping Rochester to a pair of victories. Dominiak tallied 11 points, connecting on three of seven 3-pointers in a 73-43 win over the State University of New York at New Paltz. The following day, he led all scorers with 24 points on 9-for-12 field goal shooting (6-for-9 from three-point range) in a 72-53 triumph over the State University of New York at Oneonta.

MMRyan Einwag (Carnegie Mellon): The junior averaged 21.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in leading the Tartans to a third-place finish in the 17th annual Johns Hopkins University Blue Jay Invitational. After scoring 18 points (nine of 11 free throws) in an 81-73 opening round loss to host Johns Hopkins, Einwag followed with a game-high 25 points, going 10-for-20 from the floor and making all five free-throw attempts, in an 89-75 triumph over New York City College of Technology in the third-place game. For the weekend, Einwag shot 48.3 percent (14 of 29) from the floor and 87.5 percent (14 of 16) from the line.

MMSpiros Ferderigos (Emory): The senior guard led the Eagles in scoring during the University of the South/Lon Varnell Classic, averaging 21.5 points over two games.  Ferderigos compiled 22 points and six rebounds in a 72-64 loss to the University of Texas-Tyler before totaling 21 points and six boards against host University of the South.  For the weekend, Ferderigos shot 60 percent (15 of 25) from the field, and 71.4 percent (10 of 14) from the line.

MMGreg Gonzalez (Carnegie Mellon): The senior garnered all-tournament team accolades after helping the Tartans to a 1-1 record and a third-place finish in the 17th Annual Johns Hopkins University Blue Jay Invitational, averaging 11.5 points and 9.5 rebounds, shooting 50 percent from the field and compiling five blocked shots. He registered three blocks in the opening-round loss to host Johns Hopkins, moving into third place on the school's all-time block list, before posting his third career "double-double" with career highs of 15 points and 13 rebounds in a 89-75 triumph over New York City College of Technology for third place.

MMTerrell Hollins (Brandeis): The sophomore forward averaged 17 points, 4.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and two steals to lead the Judges to a 2-0 start in the Brandeis University Tip-Off Classic , shooting shot 65 percent (15-for-23) from the floor. Hollins tallied eight points and four assists in a 70-61 win over Kenyon College, before scoring a game and career-high 26 points on 11 of 15 shooting from the field and 4-for-8 from the line in an 84-79 come-from-behind win over Bridgewater State College. He also led all players in that game with six rebounds and posted career-highs with five assists and three steals.

MMKeith Jensen (NYU): The sophomore forward averaged 13.5 points and 5.5 assists while shooting 50 percent from the field to garner all-tournament team honors as the Violets went 1-1 and finished second at the NYU Tip-Off Tournament.  Jensen netted 12 points, pulled down a career-high six rebounds and added two steals in a 61-53 victory over Framingham State College before tallying a career-highs with 15 points (six of eight field goals with three 3-pointers) and four assists to go with five rebounds in a 60-57 loss to the State University of New York at Geneseo in the championship game.
