North Central College won the 32-team competition with 50 points, followed by Williams College (181 points) and Allegheny College (195 points).
The Violets finished ahead of both teams that had beaten NYU at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championship last Saturday. This time around, NYU placed ahead of both fifth-place SUNY Cortland (232 points) and sixth-place SUNY Geneseo (271 points).
“Our performance today continues to show how strong our program has become and where it remains today,” said NYU head coach Nick McDonough. “We’ve now had different sets of runners called up to the podium over the years. That says it all about the program”
Both Zach Maher and Sebastian Schwelm earned All-America status on Saturday. Maher finished 15th overall with a time of 25:51.7, while Schwelm was 30th in a time of 26:05.2. It was the second All-America honor for Maher, who finished 34th in 2008. The top 35 finishers earned All-America honors.
The third scorer for NYU was Matt Turlip, who fell just short of All-America status with his 38th-place time of 26:10.9 Also scoring for the Violets were Calvin Lee (82nd place, 26:37.5) and Ryan Boyd (131st place, 26:56.7).
“The guys ran a really tough race,” McDonough said. “We were right in the mix for a top spot the whole way.”
Lynchburg College's Ricky Flynn won the individual title with a time of 26:09.8. Overall, 276 runners completed the race.
