Terry Gurnett Honored by National Soccer Coaches Association

Philadelphia, PA – January 16, 2010 –The largest coaching organization in the world has saluted the achievements of Rochester women’s soccer coach Terry Gurnett.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America presented Gurnett with a Letter of Commendation at its 2010 Convention in Philadelphia, PA. The NSCAA has more than 30,000 members on all levels of soccer.

It was awarded to Gurnett for his longtime service to soccer, both on and off the field, and for his accomplishments coaching the Yellowjackets.

In 2009, Gurnett guided Rochester to a 13-4-3 final record and the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs. Rochester shared the University Athletic Association title with a 5-1-1 overall mark

Gurnett is the all-time victory leader among Division III women’s soccer coaches and is third in overall wins for women’s soccer coaches at all three NCAA Divisions. In 33 years, he has a record of 410 victories, 131 losses, and 62 ties.

He earned his 400th career win with a 1-0 overtime victory against Penn State-Behrend at the SUNY Fredonia Tournament on September 12.

Gurnett has taken Rochester to 22 consecutive post-season appearances – 17 in the NCAAs and five in the ECACs. Rochester won the 1986 and 1987 NCAA Division III National Championships and was the NCAA Division III Runner-up in 1991.
