UAA Student-Athletes and Teams Receive NSCAA Honors

Philadelphia, PA – January 16, 2010 – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America recognized student-athletes and teams from across the UAA at the recent NSCAA Convention.  Six soccer players representing four UAA member institutions were named to the 2009 NSCAA/Performance Subaru Division III All-America Team.  In addition, two UAA soccer student-athletes were honored as NSCAA/adidas Men’s Scholar All-Americans, and 11 teams earned NSCAA Team Academic Awards.

Forward Caryn Rosoff of Washington University was selected to the NSCAA/Performance Subaru Division III Women’s All-America First Team, and teammate Libby Payer was named to the Second Team.  Both were repeat selections.  Joining them were UAA rivals Ellen Coleman from the University of Rochester on the Second Team and Eileen Boylan of Rochester and Melissa Gerenkoff of Brandeis University on the Third Team.

Forward Ricky Griffin of Carnegie Mellon University was a repeat All-America selection and was named to the Men’s Second Team along with goalkeeper Michael Peacock of Rochester.

Griffin was also named to the NSCAA/adidas Men’s College Division Scholar All-America First Team and joined by teammate Ryan Browne.  To be nominated for Scholar All-America consideration, student-athletes must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average throughout their career, start more than 50 percent of all games, and be a significant contributor to the team.  Griffin carries a 3.81 GPA in Business Administration, and Browne carries a 3.90 GPA in Business Management.

Eleven teams from UAA institutions received NSCAA College Team Academic Awards as a result of posting an average team GPA of 3.0 or greater.  They include women’s teams from Carnegie Mellon, Case Western Reserve University, Emory University, University of Chicago, Rochester, and Washington.  The men’s teams honored were from Carnegie Mellon, Case, Chicago, Rochester, and Washington.

The student-athletes and teams were recognized at the annual All-America Luncheon, held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 16 as part of the 2010 NSCAA Convention.
